you'll definitely want a chum flavored frogman suit so that the sharks can find you from miles away, and then rip your flesh from it's bones as quickly as possible.

without the chum flavored suit the sharks will have to play around with your bleeding corpse for a bit before discovering that they're not interested and then move on.

i bought some at dicks once and then had it break towards the end of the first trip i went on so i returned it all when i got back and had them refund me. so i suggest that you just buy all new stuff before every trip where you think you will need it and then return it all when you get home.

Buy scuba diving quality kit.  I bought a Dacor mask, tube, and fins several decades ago.  It still holds up in the ocean with currents and swells.  Plus if you enjoy snorkeling, you will eventually want to scuba.  And guess what?  Now you got the gear to do it!

Yes I own two pair.  One I got from Target (works really well actually), and the other from a scuba/snorkel place.

We have decided to check a bag anyway.  The stuff I've looked at doesn't seem to take up much room.  :dunno:

keep an eye out for sharks- particularly now since great whites have begun to find their way to Hawaii.

Find a scuba place and go there to buy.  Ignore any bullshit the guy tries to feed you about the goggles and their quality.  Pretty much the only concern is how they fit your face.  Many are different sizes as some people have ugly shaped faces.  Do not get a type with a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) water exit nose, scuba/snorkel people will think you are a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

The actual snorkel part is pretty basic.  They have a type that prevents water from going down the tube.  If you are afraid you may suck at it, you could spend the extra money for this.  I didn't tho as it is mostly a waste of money.

might want to read up on tiger sharks too.  the reason is because they are deadly to mankind and very present in Hawaiian waters.

There are people there that'll take you scuba diving down to about 30 ft after a short class.  I would just do that.  Can't do it within 24 hours of a plane ride because of pressure concerns tho

hmmm...~30 ft, the tiger shark's favorite depth.
