Actually our embassy is in Tel Aviv. And we don't have formal diplomatic relations with Iran.  But diplomatic formalities can be really stupid.  Ending our 50 year embargo with Cuba was a step away from a stupid diplomatic formality.

The Jersualem embassy thing is actually a bit weirder as there is a law on the books that tried to require the US to have a Jerusalem embassy but it was circumvented by Clinton/Bush and Bob Dole.

When you consider how long they can keep a 55 chevy running without replacement parts stopping cancer is childs play
