I stayed at the Hard Rock Punta Cana this summer and I highly recommend it.  The resort is huge with like 15 pools and 10 restaurants. Casino has a sports book and night club.

Was looking at that one and went with Riviera Maya because they have an adults only section.

normally yes, but this trip is all laying on the beach and boozing and not really exploring

My thoughts too.  I like to pretend to be Bourdain and eat local food/explore the culture on a vacation as much as the next guy.  This one I just want to eat, drink and sit on the beach without worrying about crap.

If you want to lay on the beach and binge, why leave the good ol' USofA? Florida keys or anywhere in southern Florida would probably work most months out of the year.

Why not just rent a house then?  I got a buddy with a place in terre bases on St. MArtin and I can get it for $6k for the week.  Includes maid, caretaker and a 6 bedroom house with a monster pool and a car.

either late this fall or next spring. i have 100k+ delta skymiles. mexico is in the mix.

The dining options are so-so.  If you don't have a budget and you don't want to be eating conch fritters on some other couple's lap, don't go AI.

there are several months out of the year where it would be too cold to do this even in the keys plus he wants an all inclusive. lol at laying on the beach in the keys in february trying to pound some pina colodas when the temp is 72 and the water is even colder. would not be my idea of fun. water temp being the main problem. air temp being another. expense being a third. you could get a good AI in punta cana or riviera maya or whatever for the same price as just the hotel in southern florida.

delta is the only airline i know nothing about. my advice would be to book something flight was now though with points if possible and worry about which AI or whatever later and way later if needed. how nice do you want? super nice? nice? just a place to booze for three days?

as soon as a date is finalized i will have a better idea, this is very early stages. thanks for the input. if there is an AI that pops up that looks very nice and it includes airfare, i will probably do that and use the miles on something else
