Prolly enrolled as a guest student.  I did the same thing while taking college courses while still a high schooler.

How are you able to enroll and take college courses if you didn't pass one of the exams to get into said college?

You don't have to even take the ACT to get into KU if you can carry a 2.0 GPA in a curriculum set forth by the Kansas Board of Regents. It's possible that he met the admission standards of KU, but couldn't meet those of the NCAA.

wut.
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

Pretty sure you still have to take the ACT.  You may not need a specific score but I believe you still have to take it.

Any reason for this unsubstantiated gut feeling?

Well, he did take it. He also failed it. Considering how much harder it would be to combine your ACT scores into an 86 than it would be to get a 2.0 GPA in high school, I can't believe this doesn't happen more often.

Why can't they just admit that the kid may just be dumb?
