Have you tried removing your computer from the dock and then putting it back in again?

to be clear, you are running 2 monitors and they are not the exact same monitor?

they are the same monitor but the cables are different. there is only one larger white plug and one smaller blue one on the dock.do you think I could use a spare HDMI USB slot on the dock and use that?

edit: USB, not HDMI.

no, denied.

I'd call the IT dude and tell him to do his job and fix your computer

yeah this guy sounds like a total fuckface IYAM

Is the display mode set to "extend" or "clone" displays?

SD, unplug the cord thingys and blow on them like really hard but without spitting.  The without spitting part is pretty important, but still need to blow hard on them.  Then plug them back in.

If this doesn't work, I am going to say that your new laptop's graphics card is probs all f'ed up.

If you swap the cables around does the problem occur on the other monitor?

It sounds like it's your docking station. It would have to be a model that supported true dual displays and had the appropriate outputs to do so. It sounds like one of your displays is sharing resolution with your crappier laptop screen. If you're lucky, closing your laptop will force the display to the monitors only.

CAN YOU READ THIS ON YOUR CRAPPY MONITOR?
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

I think the bigger issue here is that his dumbass company runs XP and therefore sounds overall pretty shitty IMO.

If you want your laptop screen up too, you'll probably need a displaylink graphics adapter to run them all at once.

another possible stupid easy fix is to reset the factory settings on your monitor.  click the button on your monitor that leads you to a menu, and there should be a "factory reset" option.  reset all the settings and sometimes that does stuff.

mine just switched to 7 a few months ago.  it's pretty common for large companies to still run XP because their proprietary software won't run on 7.
