My fav is Wally explaining to all of us idiots how this is REALLY only oscar's 2nd year coaching or some kind of bullshit, and it's pretty much exactly how Frank's 2nd season went (actual 2nd season, not fake 2nd season). Choosing to disregard the fact that those two seasons really aren't all that similar at this point, his premise has created by far the dumbest rationalization I've seen for the team's performance this year. Also, him blaming this all on the players is pretty
and possibly
In Frank's second year the team finished 4th in the Big 12 and had 22 wins. oscar will not even come close to that this year.
To be fair, I, for one, went ape crap on Frank after 0-4 Big 12 start and getting pounded at Nebraska. I remember writing a scathing post back on the kstatefans scout site. It's easy to look back and remember the finish and the long winning streak that season, but things looked bad early.
That said, the situations aren't as similar as Wallace makes them out to be.
1. Losing Beasley, Walker and Stewart > Losing Omari, Spradling and Shane.
2. That KSU team blew out crappy opponents, but lost close non-con roadies/ neutrals to Kentucky, Iowa and at Oregon.
3. 2008-09 actually was young. Pullen was third fiddle the season before at best. Jamar was a RS frosh. White Tiger (not Brad Korn) was our starting big. Denis was in his first season as a transfer. Foster was the best player last year, and Wes was a big contributor as a frosh. Gip looked like a surefire 12 and 8 guy. K-State returned a lot.
4. Two things are working against this team. a) the Big 12 is much tougher now than then, and it will take a 10-8 Big 12 record just to make the NIT. b) oscar's history of collapse looms large.
