Sams throws better than I thought he would actually. Keep the playcalling to short and intermediate throws along with the run game and we can win some games I think. His long ball is a joke, but everything else is pretty damn good IMO.

His long ball was something to question.  Many people think it is him arm strength, I personally think it's his lack of experience and judging the zip he needs to put on the ball for the distance.  If that is the case, it will come with time.  His short throws looked very accurate and strong so I have a hard time believing he lacks arm strength.  I mean those horrible throws still seemed to have a decent velocity to it, much more than Klein's throws ever had.

Some of you guys need to chill. Sams made 3 really bad decisions. Regardless if the throw was bad, the balls never should have been thrown in the first place. The fumble he was clearly down. What do you expect from a guy basically in his first real game on the road vs. a ranked team? It'll get better. He makes his teammates so much better. We had long drives to rest the defense. Things will get better. Maybe not against Baylor, but things will improve.

Yep.  Basically, what the Chiefs are doing for Smith.

I still hold out hoping this year is more like Ell's soph season.  Sams is high risk/high reward.  His short throws are as good as Waters.  His deep balls are pretty awful.  This season is lost, play the potential.

Season not lost.  'Cats will play better from this point forward, how that translates into W-L, is unknown.  Depends on quality of opponents.  Lots of talent emerged once Sams got to play, tells me he has the confidence of the team.  Hated the pentalties and TO's Saturday, but we saw a different 'Cats team.

Considering how many things went wrong with the game on Saturday, I don't think Oklahoma State is a very good team.  How was it even close?  (Apologies if this has already been discussed.)

Torell Miller had 4 catches and one was a TD, Kyle Klein had 3 receptions, and 6 for Sexton. if waters is in the game that would have been 13 plays that resulted in either sacks or plays that resulted in no gain (waters trying to take off way to late). also 2 point convo only works with sams

And I mean, people act like Waters doesn't turn the ball over. He turns it over a lot.

Yeah. He was only on the field for about 10 snaps today and he still had a turnover.

And Sams had 3?
actually...2

actually 4 turnovers.
1 questionable fumble.
1 questionable pass.
2 ridiculously stupid passes.
the fumble wasn't questionable, blown call...point blank and one inception I totally blame on coaching....why throw a deep ball with four minutes to burn...just move the ball with the run and short pass like we had been...at least gwt into fg range....stupid coaching....the one where he tried to dump over the top was a good play just didn't get enough air under it....

We need to invest in more runs with the RB and get more screens involved.  For Sams to be effective, he needs to have the focus taken off of him.  When he runs the option, a threat to pitch needs to be respected.  I don't think we're getting that right now.

We can throw down the field with him if we pick our spots.  First of all you need Lockett or Thompson in the game.  Second you do it vs. man coverage when the other team isn't expecting it.  One of the easiest reads to make is throwin down the field vs. man coverage which we will see a ton of with Sams in the game.  Needs to be off a play action and that type of stuff though.

Sams will be fine stick to the run game and the shorter stuff.  On pass plays coach him to get the ball out quick and take off if his first couple of reads are not there.  Take two or three deep shots per game when the coverage and situation dictate it.   I'm talking one or two receiver routes off of play action.  Make the mental part of the game easy for him.

I think you and I have different definitions of a lost season, but otherwise I agree with you.

If Waters played the entire game we would have lost by at least 2 touchdowns.  Very excited about Sams' potential.  He made some stupid throwing errors, but that can easily be fixed with experience and maturity.  Sams is the future of this team and anyone who thinks otherwise is super ignorant about the game of football.

So this is 2001 and not 2004  :crossfingers:

We had nobody as electrifying as Sams in 2004.  He made bad decisions.  His arm doesn't suck...but victim of bad decisions.  Add losing our two best receivers, first major playing time, first passes, and horrid penalties to today's performance, it was actually an impressive performance to keep us in the game.

I will point out that everybody on here will excuse SAMs to's on inexperience and poor play calling but nobody was willing to do the same for Waters.
