There are people there that'll take you scuba diving down to about 30 ft after a short class.  I would just do that.  Can't do it within 24 hours of a plane ride because of pressure concerns tho

sure you can.  just don't want to fly 24 hours after you dive.

Does anyone own their own snorkel gear?  I've decided to buy some as renting snorkel stuff grosses me out.  Any suggestos?

make sure you snorkel here when you're in Maui.

planning on it.  looks amazing.

I've been there twice. It's incredible. There's also a stingray hangout somewhere around there that our boat took us out to. I have pictures of me holding a 7 foot wide ray. The guides promised us they wouldn't skewer us in the heart or anything.

I've never scuba'd but how do your ears not explode at 30 feet?  When I've snorkled I've gone down 10-15 feet and I feel like that dude from scanners.

Yeah, touching the bottom of the 10 ft city pool was the ultimate show of little kid manliness as a kid.  ears hurt at that depth.

feel pressure / pop ears / repeat

descend at a rate you are comfortable with

after the first 30ft the pressure increase isn't as bad. so once you've made it that far getting down to around 90ft is pretty easy.

going to Cozumel next week for some diving + R&R
