Not going through all the pages, but please tell me someone posted Winston Dimel's Rivals photo and there was an appropriate response to it. TIA
Getting a 1AA team that just transitioned to 1A (UMass) was a total stud move. Counts as a 1A win but it's pretty much the same as playing another pud 1AA team.
I think pan and sd are kind of talking past each other. There aren't "a ton" of ways to win in college football. There are relatively few ways if we are talking about talent acquisition and roster construction. I mean sure, systems and schemes are necessarily related to these issues when looking at the big pictures, but they cannot ever replace talent acquisition.
LHC Bill Snyder gets a ton of crap for not recruiting well. I think there are arguments to be made that he recruits better than people that simply look at rivals star ratings as the only measure. But that fact does not dismiss the value of a rivals ranking and the large data sets that consistently state that a high rivals ranking is strongly correlated with winning college football and strong NFL prospects. No one is saying that Bill should completely scrap his strategy, I think many would just like to mix in some better top-end and mid-level talent.
I think our coaching change will be even more difficult than at most schools, because of all the reasons you can easily think of, at least partly due to a fundamental misunderstanding of the usefulness of the rivals ranking system. If everyone becomes convinced that the LHC Bill Snyder model is not largely attributed to the man, the legend, and is easily replicable we are in for some serious pain. There is no "K-State way" there is a LHC Bill Snyder way and until there is some evidence that that is repeatable I'm convinced that we need to embrace a more mainstream vision of recruiting.
Unless Bill was spending what little free time he fits into his schedule teaching his 45 year old son how to mimic his strategy of success by gradually giving him more responsibilities every season ... ?
It might be 's greatest scheme.
The talking point of rival fans will change from "KSU can't win without Bill" to "KSU can't win without a Snyder", Tate takes over once Sean becomes Old Balls and the circle stays unbroken

I had heard that most of the greyshirts have spring birthdays and are young for their class, so they are 6-12 months behind developing. The birthdates aren't up for the ones that just came in, but a quick look at 4 from the year before show birthdays in January, March, May, and June (turned 18 the summer after HS). Not saying its planned, but it's probably a consideration that there's a chance they may have more growing to do.
I wonder if Bill reads Malcom Gladwell.
I had a similar thought, but in all fairness Bill put in his 10,000 hours a long time ago and probably came to this conclusion independently.
i'm not going to go try and find it but we've absolutely already discussed this. i can't remember who brought it up and when but we talked about it even down to the gladwell mention.

I wonder how many flaming bigots don't believe they are bigots. I bet it's a huge percentage.
The Boston police officer who sent a mass e-mail in which he compared Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. to a "banana-eating jungle monkey" has apologized, saying he's not a racist. ...
"I would like to take this opportunity to offer fellow police officers, soldiers and citizens my sincerest apology over the controversial e-mail I authored," Barrett said on CNN. "I am not a racist. I did not intend any racial bigotry, harm or prejudice in my words. I sincerely apologize that these words have been received as such. I truly apologize to all."
If it's going to cost KU $200 million to remove the track and lower the field, then why don't they just build a new stadium and start over?
Hard to argue with this. My only thought is it's only affordable if they do it in a phased approach. What they need to do is play in Arrowhead for two years while they do a complete demo/rebuild. But maybe even 2 years isn't long enough. How many places build in the exact same spot as the old stadium? Most build next to it or completely different location then demo old structure.
Draft insider Tony Pauline writes that Kansas State's Arthur Brown and UConn's Sio Moore are the two fastest rising players at the LB position.
Finally. "Several people on the inside continue to tell me Brown is a definite first round pick, which like means Kevin Minter or Manti Te’o are likely out," Pauline writes. "I’m told teams love Moore not only for his measurables but also because he’s scheme diverse." Pauline went on to mention Moore could be a top 50 selection and the Jets are showing strong interest.
US chopper crashed near NK.

Time for a story. Just a few days after I was born my dad was in a Chinook that went down along the NK border (entire crew survived). I guess (back then) they'd fly up and down the border noting the field artillery positions of the NK's. He said they'd get shot at all the time, but the NK's would be sure the bullets were passing either behind or ahead of the chopper, like not trying to shoot them down.
We so could use this as a Gulf of Tomkin type situation if we want to start things off, but were smart enough to let NK flinch first
I am consistently tired as crap around 8:30-10p.m. and then after that time I am wide awake. I tend to force myself to go to sleep at midnight, should I just go to bed at 9 and see what happens?
Don't start playing a dumb instrument (trumpet, clarinet, trombone, etc) as a kid. Instead start playing a cool instrument (guitar, piano, etc) and get really good because I bet it would be awesome to be awesome at a cool instrument as an adult.
Biutiful
It was the first time I've seen Javier Bardem act outside of Skyfall or No Country For Old Man. It's surprising how normal he looks. It was a very weird script, a few scenes seemed unimportant and out of place, but Bardem delivered one of the best performances I've ever seen. If I started a "Top 3 Acting Performances since 2005" thread, would anyone participate?
I'm pretty sure he had a small role in that Jamie Foxx/Tom Cruise movie. He was one screen for a grand total of 120 seconds.
Last seen - Seven Samurai, an absolute classic. But brace yourself, it's 3 1/2 hours long.
I think I'll watch Rashomon over the weekend.
Oh guck dude. We should hang out. I get down on some samurai flicks. Akira Kurosawa is incredible.
So, with the new want for money, does UNC go to the SEC? If so, do they take Duke with them? I don't believe the rumors, but if Florida doesn't want FSU, who is a better option than Duke for their network? Is it the 1-2 extra good FB games available to the SEC network by adding VaTech or 5-6 BB games from Duke?
My understanding is that there is a "Gentlemen's agreement" that the SEC would not add any in-state rival since the schools currently in the SEC feel that being in the top conference is an advantage (means no Miami, no Florida State, no Georgia Tech, and no Clemson.)
Memphis would be a perfect fit, but their football program is a glorified dumpster fire. UNC would also be a good fit, but I don't see them going w/o Duke.
Yeah. Memphis is in Tennessee. So is Tennessee, which would violate the SEC's "gentleman's agreement."
