Kansas State Football / Re: Football Recruiting Thread

Back to Pete's point...

Florida has the 109th ranked passing offense this year.
They were 118th in 2012.
89th in 2011.

So, yeah.  Weird choice.

Teenagers don't think like that. It's literally 95% about relationships.

Also, he'll get to live in Florida. Also, SEC.

Gainesville is not "living in Florida".  Literally no difference then living in most of Georgia or Alabama.  If it's north of Orlando it's deep south and can kma.  Won't go.

SEC   :jerk:  Just a shorter path to CTE imo.

Before we go any farther can someone please assure me that bags of money were offered to Angel to entice him to stay at Kansas State University.  Because my biggest fear is that didn't happen.  That's more of a problem (imo) then a really crappy coach.  Those problems combine into a nightmare of a men's D1 basketball program.

It's unfortunate after the year we just had, but I just feel right now this is the best thing for me and my family. Whether it is the right choice or not, family has and always will be first with me......However, at the end of the day, I have do what I think is best for my mom and my brothers."

Poor kid probably didn't see a single cash payment.  Bet he struggled by with what ever paltry impermissible benefits he could hustle up on his own.

Do you think we started the extension negotiation with a ridiculously under-market offer?  After all, he's still pretty unproven as an AD.

« on: April 10, 2012, 03:25:52 PM »
I think the big difference is that I don't think this is going to last more than 4 to 5 years no matter what.  If we have horrific basketball, or if Weber wins 5 straight national championships, we're extremely likley to have a new coach in 4 to 5 years.  It's been like clockwork my whole lifetime, I don't see any reason that is going to change.  Why would I want 4 years of horrific basketball in leiu of 4 years of decent basketball?  Isn't the job more attractive for the next guys with some relvenance and maybe some decent pieces in place?

Your lifetime encompasses mostly horrific basketball.  It is entirely possible (in fact most likely scenario imo) that a decade from today oscar Weber is still our coach and next season will be our most successful in that time.  oscar screams not bad enough to fire easily and not good enough to "move up".  We've never had a coach this close to average AND grandpa likable.

So all the credit goes to the AC's.  I'm just wondering who in the eff hired them.  Could it be the same guy that can't recuit here for some god foresaking reason.

Yes.  That is the hope.  That oscar Weber can recruit an assistant (or two) to deliver talent for him.  He's not going to be the draw for a 17/18 y.o. recruit.  You don't have to watch/listen to him for long to see that.  I can see a good recruiting assistant being able to sell him though.  Get the kid and let "Aww shucks" oscar sell the parents that he'll take care of their boys.

Frank sold himself.  Had his own connections.  Got some players regarless of who was on his staff.  I don't see much of that potential with oscar Weber.

Really? Touche, didn't check that. Of course if we're talking the last 5 years, the talent level wasn't at Illinois (Thanks to Weber). What's his average offensive efficiency in his 9 year tenure at Illinois?
Illinois had 9 top 100 players on the roster last year. (Thanks to Jerrance Howard). Weberized gang......Weberized.
So what the eff is up with you guys.  Some of you are telling us how BW can't recuit, then others are saying the guy has top talent and can't get it done.  Please get your rough ridin' stories straight, so we may believe there is some credence to your rants.  :flush:

oscar Weber can't recruit himself.  When he gets a recruiting assistant who can recruit (Howard) he still can't deliver with talent.  Stories straight.

But I get that people want them gone now, and that's not likely going to change. It is what it is.

If Weber leads KSU to the NCAA tournament the next 3 years I'm betting it will change dramatically.  Agree though that is not likely.

Meh . . . Frank was pissing up the punch bowl badly.

How?

Multiple guys were going to quit

Who?

top instate guys who were seriously considering K-State did not go or were ultimately not going to go to K-State because of . . . Frank.

Who cares?  Additionally, would any of these "top instate guys" have ever even been looking at KSU w/out Frank to hate and later not come because of?

Complete implosion was clearly on the horizon.

Skepticism remains high on this talking point.

I'm a huge Wally fan but I honestly hope he doesn't come back.  Too much drama for what he gives us on the court.  I'm sure there were lots of other factors but we really seemed to come together and gel when he and Freddy bailed.

I was this until I saw the stiff bigs that are left out there for the 11 class.  That we're still after the Euro 6'6 lead foot from the north east has me willing to open my arms and welcome Wally back for at least one more season.

You should hate it, Utah State is the kind of team I hate to see our "everybody run to the ball leave the guy wide open shooting the 3" defense play.

Because we drew the 67th best 3pt % team in the NCAA?

15 minutes (or more) for D-Pete.

This and same for Nino/Shane.  Would love to see some more signs that one or both of those guys can push for 3 minutes this season.

Why didn't they blur out K's mouth when they showed his t.o. against MU 537 times?

How long until Frank has to cut that off because the season isn't going as expected??

idk, Frank doesn't seem like the kind of coach who deals in 'tardy punishment/discipline.

How does this affect our scholarship numbers going forward?

Is Tay on court/in tunnel enough to keep him 4 years?

Does this put Nick and/or Juevol even further behind the 8-ball?  Fwiw, Myles at least looks like he's enjoying himself/dance.   Nick looks like he's already got 1 foot out the door.

*Nick looks like a completely different person when he smiles.  Too bad we didn't get to see much of that in Manhattan.     *

Kansas State Basketball is hard / Re: wichita state offer
« on: October 22, 2010, 10:40:33 AM »

Kinda wish we would do that.  Being afraid to play WSU for fear of losing is more of a uk thing

What's the benefit of playing a decent in-state MVC team?

National TV:  No.
Venturing into hot recruiting territory:  No.
Financial incentive:  No.

RPI.  WSU should never be a negatie for our sos/rpi (>250), and most years it would be beneficial to play them (top 100 many seasons).  I also love that 3 season rotation.  1 home, 1 road-neutral, 1 true neutral.  Again, helps our RPI.  2 out of 3 meetings with some kind of neutral shading w/out having to leave the state.

It would be nice to play a game in Wichita every 3 seasons (every other would be ok w/ me).  Doesn't matter much for basketball recruiting obviously.  However, Wichita is a nice football recruiting area.  Anything that ups our profile there can't hurt with that.  Also nice to have a "home" game there periodically for our fans in that area.

I seriously doubt a series as rumored above was offered.  If it was I would be shocked to find out it had been turned down.    It's by no means an "elite" series, but how many of those are we going to play every season?  Does it make more sense for something like that then so. miss, chicago st (understand that's for Jake), or almost any mid-major?  I would say definitely yes.

The only real argument against it is that WSU doesn't "deserve" a series with us.  Or that they might beat us, and that would be worse then loosing to another random decent mid-major (was my feeling when we sucked as a program and actually did recruit "against" them).  Both are weak arguments now imo.  Plus, say what you want about WSU.  That game would have more juice then any other team of similar standing (and we'll still be playing those kinds of teams every season whether we sign WSU or not).

Hell, I've even warmed to the idea of a home/"home" series if they agreed to play it at the larger Wichita venue and give us a healthy chunk of the tickets.

"caught up in the emotion of the Nebraska loss to Texas and made a bad decision."

Without reading the article tell me whether that's a quote from the police report or a defense attorney.

Surprised the Horn fan made it though the incident with out a vehicle/traffic citation of some kind.

Do not want and do not need.
Yeah, who needs another athletic 6-8/9 4/5 with post moves who can rebound and defend the basket?  Especially ones who go for 20/15 against ND and 18/13 on Xavier.  It would really suck to put another guy like that on our roster in case Wally goes pro.  Plus, everybody knows Diaz and Gipson are going to show up on campus ready to dominate.  He'd probably never even see the court.  Worse yet, every guy we sign ends up clogging up our roster until he uses up his eligibility.  Why take a chance?

But at this rate, we'll be right back to where we started.

What rate is that?

5-7 (2-6)
6-6 (4-4)
4-1 (1-1)

1988 right around the corner.   :jerk:

I don't care if chunks of it come up and have to be patched over like the old vet astroturf.  I don't want a dime spent on anything until the basketball practice facility has broken ground.  Don't talk to me about walking and chewing gum either, not a fracking dime.  You know what looks even better on t.v. then new turf?  A top 25 basketball program every season.  Plus seams and dead spots are hell on visitors.  Win/win.

Unless the plans involve cammo field turn (purple & steel ftw).  Then we can allocate funds.

Nicname will be in the NEZ on thursday night if anyone needs a goEMAW head sported on natty TV.
THAT IS MY JOB  :curse:

Well, are you going to be at the game?  BTW, I am assuming that it is best to sit near the top of the seats in the NEZ, correct?

Yes.  Top row.  The section to either side of Winters.  You can stand on the bleacher and rest your back on the wall all game w/out any static from whatever oldish person would usually be behind you.  Their stupid ledge kind of jams you in the back iirc, but you can position comfortably w/ minimal effort.  No t.v. exposure, but the lean more then makes up for it.  Plus you're in a good position should some v.i.p. recruit take a stroll that way.  Got to shake Mike's hand and act the groupie during his visit for the Louisville game.

Where was Troy Butler on Saturday?  Schemed off the field w/ ISU's 3 wr base set, but I was begging all game to see him for Hartman or Zimm.  Can't cover any worse then that pair and is a hitter/tackler.

I don't understand why all of you guys are so high on Bryce. Being the number one recruit means nothing. High school is a different game. He wasn't phenomenal as a true freshman, so what about last season makes you think he's going to be a  top 5 running back in 1 or 2 years? Look, I'd be ecstatic if Bryce came in and dominated Big Twen defenses, but so far I haven't seen anything that makes me think he will.

From 2002-2009 only one #1 recruit from rivals rankings isn't playing in the NFL...or not that I know of, but I think he was drafted as a return guy maybe.  That was Derrick Williams from 05, played at Penn St., and even he was pretty decent in college.  Oh and Pryor, but he's still playing college ball for now.  The rest of the #1's from that stretch:
2002- Vince Young
2003- Ernie Sims
2004- Adrian Peterson
2005- Derrick Williams
2006- Percy Harvin
2007- Jimmy Clausen
2008- Terrelle Pryor
2009- Bryce

So Bryce has some history on his side, but also to live up to as the #1 H.S. recruit.

Young - 4 years
Sims - 3 years
Peterson - 3 years
Wiliams - 4 years
Harvin - 3 years
Clausen - 3 years
