It's always an honor to get called in for advice from a great K-Stater like _23 but I always say that the biggest thing is if breaking 80 is really your dream is you've got to really improve at an area of the game the putting the pitching the driving you've got to have a niche and you really get good at that part of the game and then you've got to get everything else better too like Coach Snyder tells the football team get a little better each month and then you've got the scoring officials and they might try to penalize you a stroke and I didn't see what they saw but you can't make excuses and you just have to overcome all that and scheduling one of the biggest things is scheduling your rounds at the right times.

We could get it started right now just answering the questions you folks have that's the important thing your job is to ask the questions marcus' job was to live up to the standards we set and he couldn't do it and neither could malek or jevon or wait which ones did we say were dismissed the important thing is that we've got guys coming in that just want to play basketball and play for k-state long history lots of success we're just trying to keep it at that level and take another step lots of ups and downs this past year big ups big downs but we got a lot of guys get some experience and that's the important thing even Vulture got in there contributed won some awards so he'll be back and DJamer's gonna have that boot off so you've got your inside your outside now we just need to get everyone to play hard play together and I don't see why we can't be one of the top teams in the country there's no doubt

How many games do you need to win next year to keep your job?

Now see that's not the way I approach this there was a time when I coached not to lose all year instead of creating toughness and developing a team I was trying to just win the games and that's the sad thing is I guess that's my fault the expectations do you want consistency or the quick success and then you have Jack leaving and DJamer's still in a boot and now Tre and Marcus aren't doing the right thing but that's how they've been their whole careers at some point you have to grow up step up so it's not about a number now but about finding they guys who want to be at K-State and play for their team

Now that you have successfully gutted the team that you recruited, will you be enjoying chocolate or vanilla chicken nuggets with your evening meal?

You talk about guts and that's the most important thing when it gets to that critical time of the game I call it gut check time who's gonna step up play at that magic level that's when you reap the rewards whether its victories on the court or with your food now Marcus you have him doing these interviews and he's talking about 20 chicken nuggets and we need Marcus to stay on track and just be part of the team

what position would you play on team strut n' cut?

#oscar, have you thought about coaching Team Strut 'N Cut? Who would you say are the team cancers that you'd need to get rid of on said team?

Lots of questions about this strut cut now playing when I was younger I don't remember if I went to the emergency room 14 times before I was 17 or 17 times before I was 14 but we were always playing sports basketball football baseball one summer I ended up in a full body cast because I broke my back but when I went to Milwaukee I didn't make the teams now you've seen my free throw shot I can still make those bend the knees focus consistency so you've got Kyle officiating and I don't want to say anything that'll get me in trouble but are we even going to get to the line the calls we have to make them make the calls now coaching they haven't had that I've coached at different levels Southern Illinois Illinois now here but they had the Wichita team for a while and MakeItRain was kind of doing a player coach thing and did they all respond I don't know but then he transferred to Iowa and then the team changed leagues and it kind of fell apart plus the partying and I don't know how focused on basketball they were so now they're playing in Seattle we played up there against Gonzaga and they punked us but you put time in the gym and watch film

If there's any more question comments opinions I'd be happy to hear them well I mean read them because you're typing them here not saying them to me but that's better anyway sometimes I can barely even hear stan when he asks me his questions you really have to look his questions in eyes on the prize is what we tell the guys you have to focus commitment play as a team but you really need that support you get the criticism but we all want to succeed keep it going

Why do you call it a play hard chart and not a play hard table?

That actually goes back to Coach Keady and even before that Coach Sutton it was Coach Sutton when he was at Arkansas that he preached the little things the hustle plays not just the scoring so when Coach Keady and I went to Purdue we wanted to make it a statistic and we put the chart together now you'll be happy to know that Coach Keady actually played football at K-State and we put Play Hard on the shorts and on the arena and then we'd pick the Play Hard player it was actually the students who had the club and they'd chart the play hard stats right there from the crowd we had a lot of energy in the mackey arena you'd like to see that here at Bramlage but we've got the chart here and some of the managers keep thrack of it and more often than not you win the play hard chart you're gonna win the game

oscar, what is the answer to life, the universe and everything?

Oh wow I'm not sure I'm qualified to answer this but I'll give it a shot and that's really where you start we put on the board heart passion teamwork playing within yourself and that translates to on the court or off the court you want to be outstanding in both so you've been put here in the world and then what are you going to do about it you can move in the right direction or the wrong direction but you set your goals and you set them achievable but still demanding and you practice hard and study hard and apply those skills and do your best you do your best when you feel good and then when you don't feel good too but then you have to remember to enjoy it when you're out there and you bond with people and your family's important but so is your team we've had some guys not be there so the rest of the guys have to pick it up for them but that's what it's about coming together as one and just showing that spirit to succeed at whatever you've set your mind to do now the universe I mean you see all different sorts of things with the ships and the satellites and some people say there's life out there and some say there isn't and I don't know if we'll ever have the answer I told the guys focus on the things you can control we can't control the calls and the injuries we think DJamer will be back but you don't know and wesley so that's the biggest thing just focus on what you can do and do with drive and sometimes you get some luck too

Betty White, Tonya Harding & Courtney Love;  eff, marry & kill; who do you got oscar?

Geez I've been married to Megan for 34 years so I don't think she'll like this and then of course Coach Keady got married in Hawaii last summer and I was there for that with the ceremony and the ocean and you make those connections the maui tournament I don't think k-state had been there for years so we got that you'd like to have a better result and even with the long beach game going to it we probably loaded the schedule too much there now I know that Miss Love was with the band from Seattle and we've played there we had gonzaga and they punked us there but then we turned around and got them down in wichita and you have to love that facility there was the snow and the ice and I thought there'd be nobody there but you go out and there's the purple and the shirts and you just impose your will

Oh gosh I'll tell you I go back with beems I know some of you are like why is this guy talking to one of them from kansas but you try to compete with them 2 wish it was 3 times this year and then you try to have that relationship with them the other times but he's someone who'd have your answer he knows all the movies the billy the happy the daddy and so on but sometimes he's here and then he goes and comes back and he goes and you'd like to have that consistency but it's just a matter of building on the maturity and showing what we have here in the big 12 the exciting offenses and the stifling defenses

oscar if you were to be confronted by John Currie in the offseason how do you think your convo would go down?

Well I think it's just like you said you want it to be a conversation and not a confrontation I think that's what they had here before with frank and that relationship kind of soured so what I like to do is come in and maybe take the good things that frank did and just build on that so you get a big 12 championship and then we've had some struggles but you look at some of the scores over the season we were right there with arizona tennessee and you had some heartbreakers but the schedule and the travel I might have overscheduled a little and I'll certainly take the blame for that you come off the plane and you want the guys to compete but they've got to do it on both ends

This year you tried a free bus ride and pizza, oscar, but what will it take next year to attempt to win the hearts of the
 students?

I saw the picture earlier of the bus and the students they looked like they were having a good time and that's what you want now the pizza I see the kid in front has the whole box on his lap and you just hope he shared it it's not unlike what we have you want them to share the ball but at the same time be aggressive and get the good shot not just the quick shot but you see those students and they've bought in which you have we want the students that want to be at k-state so they buy in and the team buys in and then maybe I won't need to buy the pizzas and the bus but that's the energy you need

Do you have cure for fans with beet red chaffed rear ends and a way to regrow hair they have pulled out?

I think you probably want to go to the doctor for that we've certainly had our share of the injuries you lose DJamer all year now he's got another boot and then the hair of course I worked with Coach Keady and he told me about the people here but his hair sometimes the other crowds would give him a hard time of it especially the students and then the noise and the t-shirts but you gotta play through that and just internalize as a team

So with a probable shorter shot clock next year are you finally going to crap can your ineffective offense?

I don't know if I'm as worried about the offense there as the defense that was the most important thing this year we held some good teams to 50 60 points you get the shorter clock they might try to speed it up but you gt out on them and then the rebounding that's something we struggled with tonight but you hope they don't make them and we do

Well usually nothing I like to have the whole space available and the spacing's important sometimes we run the motion and I have to yell to get them to the right spaces it's times like that you miss will he wasn't the fastest quickest but you just want that solid play and leadership we thought jevon could do it but he's had his stuff and then nigel's come on

Why are you stealing our money?

Oh I don't know about that yeah I'd like to have the fans at the games but they bought the tickets you just have to show up and then you know the students we need that energy so you get the pizzas and the bmx bikes and you wish you could do music but then they do the chants sometimes and that's not what you want you like the passion but you want that maturity and then our guys you want the maturity too but we'll grow and have another year and see if we can get some of those close games we let slip

How many transfers are you predicting for this upcoming offseason?

We just want guys that want to be at k-state so if they don't want to be here playing for the team the school the fans than you know we'll see how that goes but I think we'll be fine this was a season with a lot of things you can't control you had DJamer and the boot and Brandon but years like this happen and I think our guys will want to get back and see if we can compete next year and kind of come back from how they did disappointing

I don't really like spicy food you know coach martin used to have his show at carlos kelly but I said let's get it over to the hilton and what a facility that is we've tried to get the word out to the fans and the students to come down they've got a nice place there dinner drinks real good atmosphere and you'd like to carry it over to the games

Have you discussed the trajectory of this team with John Currie?

Oh we'll be fine next year you've got the pieces coming back and then DJamer and Brandon so you get your bigs and the guards and really I don't think there's any doubt we had the best 15-17 team in the country this year you wish you could win some of those games earlier in the year but we won't have the flights the schedules next year that we had this year so you do your recruiting and we've been out on the road a lot and then the important thing is you get your returning guys to work with your new guys and go compete

Well no we hoped TCU wouldn't have that shooting they had in the first half but you know they played hard and we just couldn't get out thought they set some screens that could've been called but you don't want to make excuses we came out 2nd half cut it down to 1 2 just couldn't quite get over that hump

No I don't know him but gosh 2 first names it reminds you of that advice from teen wolf about pool and the first name the same as a city and you talk about your high energy basketball the teen wolf he was just so aggressive out on the court with the rebounds and the drives you just wish all your guys could have that same emotion out there and I like your optimism you can't necessarily win em all but you compete and hope they miss some shots and some good things happen

Well I don't even know why you'd choose we took that trip to brazil and I thought the refs they were favoring the home team but it taught us a lot about fighting through the adversity and they were so happy to see the mcdonald's there and you get the nuggets and the ice cream you should have the dinner before the dessert but some of the guys just got it all I thought we came together as a team

I had a great girl back at illinois we did some good things there probably the best run in the history of illinois basketball but there you had the orange and now it's the purple so I had over 80 orange ties and I got rid of them and now I've got over 60 purple ones

Oh I've been better as you can imagine but look the thing is this team had the pieces I'm not saying we should be 30-0 but if we were you'd almost think we're the best 30-0 team in the country but you gotta have the consistency keep the head up and the spirit
