Kansas State Football / Re: EXTREME FOOTBALL INSIDER TIDBITS!

It's been reiterated to me on just how good pringle is.  Also believe that he will be replacing Jones in the wildcat assuming he learns the plays. (Because he can throw the ball well apparently and jones can't hit the broad side of a barn)

What happens if Delton doesnt start?  Does he run the WC?

Yeah, backup QB should run the WC/short yardage QB stuff to keep defenses honest (plus bonus, gives loser of QB derby chance to play).  Will legitimately believe the entire offensive staff is senile (or paranoid due to last year's QB injuries) if this doesn't happen.

Sort of incredible what that '03 defense did to OU in the Dr. Pepper.

Final Kimball Corridor document:

The total redo of Kimball avenue with landscaping, limestone fencing, and campus entrance gates will be cool

Very much appreciate the link, thank you!

Biggest question for me looking at this is still the area directly north of the stadium.  It's called a "display area" in several of the maps, and on one map it says "Athletics Complex Gateways or Signage Moment" ... but then another map has "Agriculture Exhibit Field" ... so maybe they're still wrangling over that a bit.  For lack of a better term, I just want it to be "prettier."

Also, parking fees going up, folks (and possibly bus fees too).   :peek:

I hope OU is in the same division as UH & Cincy

In a perfect world, they would be with UH, Cincy, WVU, TCU, and ISU.
but the world we live in is the a North/South Split and OU bitching about the weak North dragging down the conference and creating a "psychological disadvantage"

I think the odds of a North/South happening again are relatively low.

Everyone is going to want regular access to Texas now that they're all getting two games a year.  You can make that happen, more or less, if you split the Texas schools into two divisions and then ensure that you play one of them in the cross-divisional games each year.  You may get six games in Texas every four years instead of 8, but still.

The reason the Pac-12 divided up the way it did is because everyone wanted access to California.

I've seen it stated that OU/Texas don't want to diminish the RRR, so they don't want a rematch scenario ... so same division or bust for them.

TCU is going to pitch a fit about anything that separates them from local games (they'll be the final holdout on voting in favor of expansion I'm guessing, because of this), but outvote them, pair them with Baylor (who would LOVE to get away from Texas/OU for an easier path), and tell them to shut up.

8 games gets OU fan base what it wants = more games against other elite national teams.  Pair teams with yearly cross-division rival.  Done.

OU  -  Cin (because Boren wants them so bad)
OSU -  WVU
UT   -  TCU
TT  -  Bay
KU  -  [insert team 12]
KSU -  ISU

If you add BYU, you can stick them in the group of death instead of KSU and have the Cats' cross-division rival be KU. Don't much care either way.

Does this make OU/Texas happy? Guessing yes. Everyone else can and will deal.

What is probably true is that it will most likely force Notre Dame to go undefeated to get into the playoff since they'll never have that 13th data point.  And if that drives them to join a conference, that's probably the closest thing to a realignment end game that we'll see in the next 20-30 years.

The 13th data point is going to hammer Notre Dame yearly, and you're probably right that if anything gets them into a conference, it's that.  In my view, the ONLY justification for going to round robin + championship game model is to benefit your expansion cause (you can sell more money + 13th data point/playoff berth to potential candidates). Doing this probably screws Notre Dame into joining a conference, BUT I don't see any reasonable way they end up in the Big 12, so what's the actual point?  Hope FSU and Clemson get tired of not making money and eventually defect?  That's possible I guess, but not imminent.

Does Boren have a good relationship with ND? I know Dodds did and was pursuing the Irish because he's a boss.

Of course the easiest interpretation is that Boren is just running his mouth and/or is senile -- he and Bowlsby have contradicted each other so often it's comical.

I'd assume ND would join the ACC. Then they would go get UConn or something and be done with it.

Healthy ACC + revenue strong/politically tangled Big 12 probably stops most realignment. Doesn't give the Big 10 or SEC much to draw from.

So if the round robin + championship game thing happens we can guess the benefit is ...

Stability for the ACC?

Yeah, that sounds about right for Big 12 leadership.

Which college town is Carlos O'Kelly's? I think maybe Norman, actually. I went there as a kid and stayed at a Holiday Inn that had a sweet pool and free foosball/pool tables, so I always associated Norman with that as somehow "nice." Which makes it Carlos O'Kelly's, because when I was a super little kid I thought it was really really nice but when I grew up I realized it was nothin' but a pile of trash. :dunno:
Solid analysis. I think the Manhattan location is the worst of all.

Presently, sure.  There was an Emporia location a block from the meat-packing plant. In a town of immigrants. I have no idea why it closed down.

I would much rather go with Marcus/Wes/Justin to start.

Yes, this.  At the very least, it creates matchup problems for the opposing defense, boosts the free throw shooting and improves the rebounding.  It may have the by-product of improving the defense too by putting more length on the floor.  If the turnovers are relatively stagnant either way, you do this and don't look back.

Our recruiting analyst likes Jacobs (though he likes Reggie Walker more).

http://www.nola.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2014/09/oklahoma_commitment_tyrell_jac.html

He played on a dominant defense this year (only loss was upset to division rival in the playoffs), so he probably benefitted from that (meaning he got boosted by the guys around him but also that he's from a winning program and know what goes into it, etc. etc.).

Louisiana is stupid deep this year.  Fewer five-star types than normal, but way more Div. 1 guys.  Considering his offers and the mere fact he's from Louisiana, he'd probably be worth a fist-pump if he commits.

CJones a year better, Warmack an upgrade over DRob in athleticism equalling more big plays, and Bazooka has shown he can tote it better than Jake.  The ground game will be significantly better, to the point that better teams won't be able to shut it down like they could this year's crew.*

* if the o-line is decent

Passing game is going to be an adventure.  Think Sams-led offense against Baylor/Ok St. etc. last year.

Should be fun.

I don't push for kids (not even for Sams), because what the hell do I know and K-State barely only dips its toe in here locally anyway, but this guy wants to play quarterback at the next level and he's incredible.  If those other schools don't get hot and heavy quick, K-State should.

http://highschoolsports.nola.com/news/article/-9166681594314542679/warren-eastons-deshawn-capers-smith-chosen-as-louisianas-mr-football/

I've seen guys like Speedy Noil and Munchie Legaux, and they looked like athletes at QB.  This guys looks like a legit QB.

Only downside: You can't run him 30 times a game, so I guess nevermind.  Carry on.

Comparing '10 to '11 is a weird experience.  I already knew '11 over-performed in terms of W-L (thanks mostly to turnovers, it appears), but to see it get its ass kicked repeatedly by '10 makes me question everything I thought I knew.

Just looking at yards+points, one could rank the teams as follows:

'04,'05,'09 < '10,'11 < '01,'13 < '00,'02,'03,'12,'14

we ran it after showing it before a timeout.

I was annoyed by this as well.

Here's some stuff on Charles from his prep career. http://search.nola.com/charles+jones+mandeville/ He had some pretty monster stat lines (for a program better known for its defense).

Re: the Wildcat.

Bill wants to create an extra blocker at the point of attack, so he runs his QB. We know this. So whenever Charles lines up back there and slams his body into a mass of humanity for the good of EMAW, it's one more play that Jake doesn't have to. Given Jake's slight build and our QB depth, I emphatically endorse this course of action.

You know what's crazy? Florida State's midcourt logo has been that huge for years.

Yeah, I'm always making fun of FSU pals because of it (e.g. "I think the midcourt logo needs to be a lot bigger.").  No one ever gets it.

They intimidate me with baseball knowledge though, so it evens out.

WRFF. I have now partied with Larry TWO times.  :Wha: :Wha:

Interesting.  FSU Larry?  (I know several Larrys now all of a sudden).

it's free

is that site down?

no ... they make people pay for certain crap, while other pieces are free

There is empirical evidence, in the form of people sharing their tailgating food, that people will pay to listen to Robert's ramblings.  And yet this piece of gold does NOT end up behind the pay wall. Baffling.

« on: May 15, 2014, 11:01:06 AM »
Why do people think Mueller doesn't have a shot at getting drafted? And why are people so sure Lockett does?

Mueller's size (like Michael Sam) will cost him in the draft.

Lockett is small, but he'll get drafted. He's too talented not to get a shot, though injury problems could hurt him (like Zim).

You're probably underselling Lockett here. Based on physical gifts/skills alone, he's a first-round talent. The only thing you can ding him on is weight/frame, but the dude from Colorado (6-0, 175) went No. 45 overall and he had a worse injury history, worse ball skills, worse everything pretty much.

But I guess you never know what teams will do.

any closer to trees on the west side CC?  They haven't had any since WSC opened in 2013, wouldn't hurt to be spruced up a little.

Have not asked lately. Last I heard, the thought was to make a "Main Entry Drive" on both the north and west sides, with landscaping/trees/etc.

This is needed (needed on the east side too) and will go a long way in improving the aesthetics.

One of the ways to make the east facade more "worth" the money is to make the space functional.  Are there any plans on the table that you've seen that add classroom space/administrative offices and/or similar on the east side?  As an example, Doak Campbell's facade wraps all the way around and one of the ways they accomplished this was via putting other departments/offices inside the stadium (similar to what we've done with the old stadium, but much nicer/bigger).

We don't need 90,000 seats of course, but the principles of design are the same ... what most fans seem to want is a connected look on the inside and the outside (with some landscaping thrown in for good measure). Also swag and cool castle-y things and whatnot.

Remember when we had just a bunch of folding chairs in the north endzone?  Ha.  It really wasn't that long ago.

Do you guys remember?

Yes, kinda amazing how in less than 10 years we'll have gone from a lawn party to a (hopefully with a) party deck. How smally timey it was.

It is immensely entertaining that the exterior of K-State's old, rejected football stadium is superior to the one currently employed for football in Lawrence. After renovations, the interior of the former will be better as well.

This talking point really should be cut and pasted into all phog stadium discussions going forward.

We just posted something on Daren Williams.

http://www.nola.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2014/01/east_st_johns_daren_williams_t.html

Sounds wishy-washy (good for page views!!), but rumor is Tulane coaches have been thinking of him as gone for a long time now (well before the switch).  Best guess is he sticks.
