The past 3 Tech games have been pretty great. In 2011, no one was ever really sure if we were good, and our first two touchdowns were a Nigel Malone INT in the first minute of the game and a Lockett kick off return. They had been running the ball at will, but we blocked two of their FG's and were down 8 at half. Then Klein throws a beaut to Harper over the shoulder in the corner of the endzone, down 1. TT catches a ball over his head that leads to an awesome double backwards somersault. We cruise into the win after that.

I wouldn't say we cruised to a win in 2011.

We created multiple turnovers in the second half but couldn't score to put the game away. Eventually Tech moved the ball in the fourth quarter and Tubs opted for a field goal on 4th down after failing to score when they had 2nd and goal at the 1 yard line. Then on the ensuing kick off we didn't recover the onside kick and had to sweat out the final minutes because of that.

Loved that game. Couldn't have happened to a better opponent either.

Brand new tackles, no running back, terrible TEs and having a small wide receiver as your primary weapon with a quarterback who is terrible at short and intermediate passes sounds like a great combo.

Let's hope Lockett's yearly injury make him miss games against good teams and not the bad ones. We will need all hands on deck to beat the bottom of the conference this year.

Very worried about the early road game at Iowa State now that we won't be able to just run Sams to mask any early season rust/deficiencies and the UTEP game coming off the Auburn game. Season could be off the tracks when Tech shows up, which is a must win game for bowl eligibility. This season isn't split between good teams at the beginning of the schedule and terrible teams at the end like last year.

Sams leaving/Waters starting just put a ton of pressure on Derricott and Co. Our defense will be tested with as many sixty second three and outs we are going to see, especially in the first half as we wait for Waters to find his "rhythm". There might to be a lot of multiple score deficits this year at half time.

I'm fully of the belief that if it weren't for #16, DSams would be the starter.

I think I've made my peace with the fact our fanbase doesn't deserve Sams. But I will never understand why people think Lockett makes Waters significantly better, but Lockett doesn't make Sams better.

I think the reason so many KU fans are so upset over t-shirts is because t-shirts are the only connection to KU many of them have.

Making a t-shirt for a random game in February makes them feel very disrespected. It diminishes their self worth.

I just ask that everyone is considerate of those feelings.

Also, we may be dog crap in bowls because bill probably spends the entire month practicing the gray shirts for next year or something.

I hope that is true and he keeps doing it.

I put zero relevance into winning bowl games. They hold zero competitive meaning IMO. The idea of them is crazy. Taking a whole month off and thinking a team will come back where they left off is stupid. They only serve as a a early winter vacation before my mid-winter vacations.

My main criticism of Snyder throughout his tenure is given the option he over thinks everything. It is why he is a legend when games are only 6 days apart but that is also the reason we are dog crap in bowl games. He has a month to think about everything and in the end just screws it up. And why his record after a bye against anyone other than KU or non-con scrubs is 3-6.

That is the problem with two QBs. It allows him to over think it and screw it up.

He didn't have that luxury in 2011, so he just focused on how to win with Klein and stayed committed to it. The same should have been done for a far more physically talented QB in Sams.

The 2011 season it was standard to fall behind by two scores. Snyder would have subbed in go-big-or-go home waters in that situation only to lose the game in a semi-shootout and fans would be saying, "hot damn did you see that one long BOMB?! Tough loss, but we're K-State, just glad we are going to a bowl game."

If enough people believe it, that makes it true.
Do you read Sutter Cane?

Never ask a man wielding an ax that question.

But, to answer, I watch The Colbert Report.

I don't get giving Waters every third and long opportunity in the 2nd even though Sams was perfect passing, but it worked, so oh well.

I really like Sams, but you have seen him throw down the field this year, correct?

Help me with this, because I feel like I'm losing my mind. Or maybe I am experiencing revisionist history when Sams throws it.

When have we seen him throw it down field? He had two terrible throws in the pocket against OSU. Waters has equally as embarrassing throws.

The INT at the end of the game against Baylor was ill advised considering down and time on the clock, but he was flushed from the pocket and throwing on the run and put a 50/50 ball up to his 6' 5" 240+ TE to make a play on between a DB.

But other than that what have we seen that makes him so terrible that we don't even think about giving him the chance to throw it vertical? Or is it just a combination of well-the-coach's-are-the-ones-at-practice-and-see-him-throw-it-every-day-type situation?

I was at the spring game and I watch him in warm ups, the arm is there to throw 25 yard post routes to TT or TLBL especially if there is no one over the top because the other safety is at the LOS.

Anyone tried Wild Turkey Forgiven?

Wild Turkey and Rare Breed are two of my staples. Love them.

But the name and story of Forgiven have really put me off. Mainly because I don't know how accurate these bourbons like Devil's Cut are true to the seemingly bullshit story about them. Especially a bourbon claiming that it was a messed up batch but it actually turned out great! So now we have tons of bottles of it to sell!

Is there any evidence that Snyder and Co. know how to be "creative" with a player offensively?

I can't think of one situation where he actually used a special package offensively. We used Sproles like an I back more than anything. We had the beautiful Chris Harper for three seasons and all we did with him was have him block guys out if we threw him the ball. I was to young to pay that kind of attention to how we used Frank Murphy, but I have zero confidence this staff has the ability to use a player like Sams in any capacity offensively that isn't stock blocking for Waters option plays or Hubes running out of bounds because he can't make a cut.

Oh Stanford!

Just one of our peer institutions (3x confy champs in 1 year club) busting our balls.

I love how incredulous that Standford guy sounded too lol  :Bonk:

You let this stuff out of the clubhouse (3x confy champs 1 year) we might just tell Ian Eagle that our Best Coast buds got drunk the other weekend and told us they import all your ice from Scandinavia!  :Pound on:  <---Us and Texas rough housing Stanford

If there's one spot you'd be okay being weak at isn't LB it?  As long as the ends and the corners play we'll do alright.

I am not okay with being weak anywhere, that's unacceptable. But considering we will most likely have 5 db's out there for conference play i guess if i had to choose yes, lb would be the one like I said above you can hide a bit.

You can not hide your linebackers. They are the most crucial part of a defense, DTs are close but your LBs are your defense.

Even with all the spread offenses, if you are weak where the ball is snapped everything else you try to do on defense will become FUBAR. You will still be exploited from the inside out.

Asking Evans to shed an OG a few times in a specific situation is fine, asking him to do it a lot, over the course of a game will be crippling.

http://fox4kc.com/2012/06/20/regents-approve-tougher-admissions-standards-for-ku/

Quote
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Tougher admission requirements are coming to University of Kansas. The Kansas Board of Regents today voted to raise admission standards at K.U. higher than those at the state’s other public colleges. The change is designed to boost graduation rates at the state’s flagship university.

In four years when this takes effect, incoming freshmen will need at least a 3.0 GPA or “B” average in high school to automatically get into K.U.

“It certainly raises rigor and expectations,” said Mary Viveros, implementation coach at Kansas City, Kansas public schools. “But we know that’s what it takes. Making it any easier doesn’t really help in the long run.”

On the K.U. campus new students are getting familiar with college life as part of orientation month. Peer adviser Kyle Boge says some freshmen just aren’t ready for the transition.

“There’s a lot of questions about how tough will this class be,” said Boge, a sophomore from Olathe. “If I’m in this thousand person class how is that going to work out? But really you can, if you’re motivated you can get through it and transition,” he said.

More than 20 percent of K.U. freshmen drop out during their first year. Regents believe requiring at least a 3.0 grade point average and ACT score of 24 will help eliminate putting students in positions where they fail.

“I think improving the university starts with the freshman experience and maintaining students for all four years is something that’s good for us,” said Marcus Tetwiler, a K.U. student from Paola.

Right now, there is no grade point average requirement to get into any Kansas college. Being in the top third of your high school class with an ACT score of 21 is all it takes. In the Kansas City, Kansas School District, only about a quarter of the graduates score at least 21 on that college entrance exam.

“It really is not only GPA but ACT score that’s a pretty good indicator of how well kids will do in school,” Viveros explained. “We really aligned ourselves with those ACT standards and college readiness benchmarks. That will be important to ensure kids will have skills when they get there.”

Prospective students who don’t meet the tougher standards can still have their applications reviewed by a committee. Students say help has always been available for those who are struggling.

“There are students that aren’t interested in that,” said recent K.U. graduate Sarah Coughlan. “They’re here to socialize or think they can not show up for class and just take the test, that’s not a strategy that works.”

The regents also voted to raise tuition by 5.1 percent for undergraduates at K.U.
Tuition will increase by 5.5 percent at Kansas State University.

Paola a 4A Kansas high school, the town where that ku student is from, also has a track around their football field.

Jimmie Swain, Elijah Lee, and Nick Ramirez would make for quite a trio at the linebacker position. I'm pretty happy that we're putting more effort into recruiting the greater KC area....and mushing Pinkel and Andy Hill along the way.

it's like bill wasn't even trying last year, right? why is hs recruiting this much better, especially considering he's another year older and probably won't coach for another 5 years.

New recruiting coordinator, Andre Coleman and Blake Seiler are awesome. In addition to the Dr Pepper, Stadium Expansion, Nub being in trash conference and MU being MU.

Never underestimate how awesome of humans we've had on the team - DT, Harp, AB, CK, TLBL, Zim, Finney, Walker etc etc.

Still need them to sign though. But things are positive.
