Given where we are now with Trump, it's pretty crazy that people at the time labeled Bush as dumb.

It's a good reminder that he'll do literally everything in his power to never leave office. It's his nature.

The college football people I like moved to bluesky. For other sports, TikTok is great.

I got tired of X pushing far right content to me. Also, a pretty large majority of people I regard as worthwhile posters moved to bluesky. Also, I have a fear of doing old, outdated stuff. Also, I'd be happy to see Elon completely ruined.

Also, X now does a lot of engagement farming and pushes content that I absolutely do not want. Like a super shitty knock off version of TikTok would.

Walmart and Target supposedly warned Trump about empty shelves. I would really love for people to be seriously inconvenienced and get super mad at Trump.

A survey of more than 500 political scientists finds that the vast majority think the United States is moving swiftly from liberal democracy toward some form of authoritarianism.

In the benchmark survey, known as Bright Line Watch, U.S.-based professors rate the performance of American democracy on a scale from zero (complete dictatorship) to 100 (perfect democracy). After President Trump's election in November, scholars gave American democracy a rating of 67. Several weeks into Trump's second term, that figure plummeted to 55.

Tesla profits down 71% since Q1 last year. Wow.

Yet the stock is up 5.22% as of rn. It's not reality.

He did say he was cutting way back on the DOGE stuff.

Let's understand that my primary point is . . . did Joe even know the EO's were being signed or what they said?  NOT whether Robo Pen signed EO's are valid.

Based on what Joe allegedly confessed to Speaker Johnson - it's a valid question.

Dax, to clarify, I don't choose to ignore your posts because I want to avoid talking about an issue. I choose to ignore them because responding to you as a person is not worth my time. I'm not interested in arguing merely for the sake of arguing.

Since Jefferson, various US presidents have made use of the autopen; some were guarded about it while others were more open about its use. Whereas once the official White House position was to deny the existence or usage of the autopen, today its existence is more of an open secret.

Harry Truman was rumored to make use of the device; Gerald Ford was open about his utilization of the autopen, but it was Lyndon B. Johnson who blew the doors off the entire affair by allowing the device to be photographed in the White House, appearing on the cover of The National Enquirer with the article “The Robot That Sits in for the President.”

John F. Kennedy was so dependent on the autopen, that he became the subject of a book entitled The Robot That Helped to Make a President

I don't think they want to kick out "homegrowns" merely for the sake of doing it. Nativism seems to me to be a likely motive.

I don't know what he meant by homegrown, but anchor babies seems like as good of a guess as any. Especially when he's aniti-birthright citizenship (in spite of the document he supposedly swore to uphold).

Around 200 employees will be left at the CFPB, effectively gutting the agency
...
The CFPB was established by the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, an expansive piece of legislation that imposed consequential regulatory reform in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.
...
it claims to be responsible for $19.7 billion in consumer relief since its inception, as well as $5 billion in civil penalties

If the question is: are we doing the same types of crap that nascent dictatorships do?

Then the answer is: yes, definitely. Without question.

Just had a long weekend in Toronto. Unlike China, heard tariff discussion everywhere I went. Was also a hot topic in the news.

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.
