for most cities in the world, that means *building an entirely new freaking stadium that will never be used again*
for kansas city, that might mean constructing new rail transit between downtown and arrowhead? i doubt it. in 1994 they played at foxborough for crying out loud.

Great crowd tonight for the women's match, I was very impressed given how crazy expensive those tickets were. Face value for those tickets were double that of a sporting kc match for most of the seats. Those tickets were even more than the Gold Cup tickets were.

For what it's worth, SKC staffer I know says KC will "probably" get matches.
As it relates to the training site vs. matches situation, matches are certainly better for overall exposure. But, in terms of revenue generation, it's much closer than you would think (possibly even tipping in favor of training site) because the teams will rack up monster bills at hotels, restaurants, etc. during the course of several weeks that they're in KC training. That plus the crazy/passionate fans who will travel to the team training sites = additional revenue for the region.

I don't know if it was weird but it's definitely inconsistent given they have New York, Boston, Miami, Dallas, and San Francisco on there and there won't be a solitary match played in any of those cities.

I've never been to a world cup match but I have been to an international sporting event and one thing that's evident is that pretty much every country in the world cares about sports more than we do here. The passion in which these people cheer for the teams they care about is wild to see.

WC Qualifier in Arrowhead opened my eyes to soccer. I was floored by the passion. There were smoke bombs / flares in the stadium. Wild.
