Or anything that you can walk around and eat. Is that socially acceptable? I love to eat an apple everywhere that I go and someone informed me while I was eating an apple from home in a gas station that it's not normal.
-
Sounds a little odd
-
eating an apple on the sidewalk? fine
eating an apple in a gas station/grocery store/restaurant? weird
-
So no one else just grabs a granola bar on the way out? Or a cup of coffee? Are those things awkward too?
-
what do you do when it comes time to pay? awkward one hand struggle to get cash/card out of wallet/purse or awkward clamping of remaining apple to free both hands?
-

All the time, but I don't take them into places that sell food.
-
why would she be going into the station's interior to pay? she's paying at the pump and munching her apple, like a normal person.

here's an interesting apple fact. the cameo apple, which is a pretty good eating apple, is a descendant of the red delicious, which is unanimously considered inedible for humans.

She said she was in the gas station, not at
the whole property is the station, not just the building.
-
If you're at the pump, outside, then describing yourself as "in" the gas station is incorrect

you're inside the station's boundaries.

example:
i live in california. vs i live at california.

sys get the eff out of here with that crap
-
you think she's going inside and standing on line to pay? apple or no apple, that's ridiculous.

Lol

I love red delicious apples. They frequently satisfy my palate. Link to the claim that the red delicious is "inedible?" TIA.

i've confirmed it myself.

fuji or fiji (I think fuji here, fiji is the water), braeburn are the best two. Jazz or granny smith is ok in a pinch.
Red delicious is awful.

I'm just gonna leave this here and let you all connect the dots... :gocho:

mrs. dave is a known eater of apples. like min. one a day. her current order of favs are:

Equally terrible as red delicious.
Fuji, braeburn, gala, and jonathan are all great.
One of the benefits of apples is their ability to be eaten on the go, but never in gas station or other place of business. In a car or outdoors is acceptable IMO.

are you talking about vaginas dmartin?
-
goddamnit ecokat get back in here :curse:
-
unless you eat the whole apple you're a disgusting casual and i won't associate with an apple eater of your kind.
-

That I am, Steve Dave, that I am.
or apples... either way
-
Honeycrisp or GTFO.

Eating an apple while pumping gas has too much of a chance of getting gasoline on your apple.
-

Yes, great point.
-
You guys must be very messy with the pump
-
Just touching the handle makes your hand smell like gas. Maybe you don't notice because you're already gross and smelly.
-
I like apple slices in fruit dip, I'll never grow out of that and I DGAF.
-
I did go into the gas station with said apple because I was there to get a drink and I just hadn't finished my apple yet. Im sure that it wasn't the weirdest thing that the cashier had ever seen because he didn't even comment on it.
There's not enough time in the day for me to just sit at home and eat IMO
-
ecokat, could you please answer my question about how you handled the apple while paying (it was before everyone else started posting stupid things btw)
-
would you eat a chipotle burrito in a gas station?
-
I eat apples at work or while driving my car, but I don't take them into places with me. I usually don't eat an apple while I am walking because I am either walking for exercise (not the time to eat) or I am walking to get my lunch.
-
Fun Dad tip:
so, my kids eat apples like all the time. one day I offered lil CF3 an apple and he said no he wanted a cookie. So I said "ok how about popcorn apples?" He said sure. So I chop the apple in to like, 40 little bites and serve it in a bowl. Now popcorn apples is considered a treat but its really just an apple which is healthy.
kids are pretty easy to trick
-
here's a little apple factoid- the average time between when an apple is picked, until it hits a store shelf, is 14 months
-
the golden delicious apple is a fabulous apple for cooking. i've never heard of anyone trying to eat one raw.
-
here's another fun fact about apples: I have no idea what the differences is between apples beyond red and green. some are better than others but I just always figure that depends on how old they are.
-
:chainsaw:
-
What's the difference between the squarey ones and the roundy ones?
-
disgusting apples: jonathan, red delicious
delicious apples: fuji, braeburn
-
When picking out an apple to buy at the grocery store I just decide how much I feel like eating and buy the apple according to size. Sometimes I just get one of each variety.

you should read a book about apples. amazingly variable fruit.
-
imo, the most important characteristic of an apple for raw eating is crunchiness. i'm fine with an acidic apple or a sweet apple and don't go too overboard about any of the subtle flavors. it's all about the texture.
-
Fun fact: only within the last 11 years have I been able to eat apples

Yes and this is what makes red delicious apples so pathetic.
-
i don't eat raw fruits, or vegetables for that matter, because my immune system hates my guts (literally).

Wow, this is a fantastic post that makes me wish I knew more about Apple variety.

I thought that crunchiness was inversely proportional to age of the apple.
-
Apparently no one actually read the origin of the Golden Delicious in my link... Hint: total #fanningbrag in there for me.
-
Jonathans pair really well with both peanut butter and gouda(separately. I am not a monster). They have great crispness and are not overly sweet. That is why they are superior.
-
ecokat, could you please answer my question about how you handled the apple while paying (it was before everyone else started posting stupid things btw)
I really don't even remember it being an issue. I'm guessing that either I just had my debit card in my back pocket like I usually do or @winters4ksu paid for it
-

i read it. congratulations on having an apple.
-

age and growing conditions impact crunchiness, but it's mostly a function of apple variety. or maybe it's better to say that apple variety delimits the range of possible textures.
-
i eat 2 very small meals per day, and avoid any unneeded caloric intake such as apples

thanks - we're getting closer to the answer!

I was amazed to find out this is pretty much true. Sounded rediculous, but it's not.
I'm shamed that I doubted you clams.

Is that intentional? Like, a ripening time or something?
-
I can believe it. They last forever in the crisper drawer of the fridge.

we are a 100% pink lady household now. there is no other apple type for us. we made the switch from majority gala to pink lady about a year ago and burned the boats.

Fuji or Braeburn for me. Braeburn are harder to find these days. Conspiracy?
I will eat a granny smith in a pinch but I'm not thrilled about it.
-
a granny smith is a cooking apple kat kid!
-
you getting hammered on creme de menthe over there too?
-
shut up!
-
Pink Lady . . . no contest.
Get that Red Delicious and Jonathan crap away from me.
-
i like to slice apples, shake cinnamon all over them, and then eat the slices heaped in peanut butter
-
Tart apples are better
-
I enjoyed the Soviet miners apple joke in Chernobyl
-
not sure there is a more 100% guaranteed way to ruin my day than to take a bite of a mealy apple. like if given the choice between losing a tooth to a crispy amazing honeycrisp or taking a bite of a mealy red delicious but not losing any teeth...call the mfing tooth fairy.
-
j rake's teeth would break off into a bloody mess eating a nice crisp apple.
-
lucky for our guy j rake he's a writer and not an orator.
-
I've been a honeycrisp guy for the last couple of years but am interested in trying a new variety. What are some similar apples that I should try?

I already said Pink Lady. JFC

Agree with BAC that crispy is superior.

Went with the Pink Gala this week. I'll give them a 7/10, good but not better than Honeycrisp.
I think I'm going to try granny smith apples next week.

That’s a cooking apple!
