Shrimp/crab gumbo

french bread
Mom's awesome stuffing

Does anyone else hate sweet potatoes? I do.
Absolutely hate them with a passion. Though when I went to Chicago my gfs uncle made me try some at a Ruths Criss restaurant and they were elite because they tasted like pumpkin pie, a personal favorite.
anyone else really hate Cool-Whip?
No freaking way. I cover my entire pumpkin pie with it so I can't see any of the pie. Then I practically swallow it whole.
Grandma used to make an amazing fresh raspberry pie but since she's very slow these days it hasn't been done. I think I'll be trying to whip one up this year...
-
Does anyone else hate sweet potatoes? I do.
I don't like the thanksgiving style ones but I like baked sweet potatos and sweet potato fries.
-
Alton Brown has a badass recipe for sweet potato pie on the food network site. rough ridin' fantastic.
-
hey guys,
if anyone of you come over to my place for thanksgiving this year, please leave your super disgusting pies in the car. thanks. they all sound super gross.
-
Does anyone else hate sweet potatoes? I do.
Not a big fan, at all. I take 1/2 of one to be polite, but the marshmallowy/vanilla-ee topping? NO THANK YOU.
-
sour cream raisin pie :lick:
Who came up with this one?
Sounds rough ridin' horrible.
-
My bro grows sweet potatoes. He grew one bigger than a football last year. We made yams with it last Tgiving for 12 people and only used half of it. :surprised:
-
Brown also has a really good recipe for green bean casarole on there. Amazing how much better it is when you use fresh green beans and mushrooms vs the canned stuff. And the fresh onion deal are money.
-
not going "home" for thanksgiving so i'm going to order in chinese, get a pumpkin pie and crack open some layer cake shiraz.

I got $5 that says treysolid makes an attempt on his own life tomorrow.

OT OT: Do you consider Boston Cream Pie a pie or a cake? It's called pie but, I don't know, it just seems more cakey.

Cooked a turkey on the Big Green Egg today. 12 lbs went for 5.5 hours at around 200-250 degrees. Hickory and mesquite chips.

This sounds amazing. I'll be over after I get done eating my 2nd Thanksgiving meal.
All the guys in my family started this thing where we mix our stuffing with our mashed potatoes, and it's phenomenal. I highly recommend it when you start thinking about dry your turkeys, rolls, etc. are.

Jfc. What do you drink with that because I know it's not wine unless it's maddog 20/20?
Speaking of, do you guys prefer a Pinot with your meal or a Sauv Blanc?

My mom is the worst Thanksgiving cook alive today, if my Grandma were alive she would have that distinction. It havent the time nor inclination (ptsd x 30) to completely describe the horror.

Fantastic question, hadn't thought about it, the obvious choice is grape kool-aid, we shall see. In real life the only wine I like are Reislings, and not all of them either. I prefer a good New York or German. California, Washington, and French Reislings blow.

Bro-in-law bought a couple of quarts of gravy from Stroud's for the mashed potatoes. Thought that was a pretty clever move.
-
Just watched the Man vs Food episode when they featured Strouds. That gravy looks incredible. I haven't been to Strouds in years so I don't even remember how it tasted...

warm or room temp,
ice cream or no,
what flavor of ice cream?
these are important apple pie questions.

No kidding. Hey kids, want to have some toasted pumpkin seeds this 4th of July?
-
All the traditional stuff, but I threw pumpkin crisp into the mix this year - incredible. Also forewent the greenbean cass for asparagus cass - casserole fail. Tryptophan kicked in and woke up sweating on the couch following customary 3 hr snooze.
Oh, and if you all want a SW KS semi-Mexican leftover thing, try mixing turk, gravy and the Mole' from the weird little yellow jar you can find at the grocery with the Mexican food (usually about half a jar for the 'big' sized pot in the traditional pots/pans set) - layer it on pinto beans and put it all over Spanish-type rice and serve with tortillas... the result is amazing and it beats the crap out of some dry-ass turk sandwiches.
