Title: electric cig
Post by: pike on October 25, 2010, 11:24:29 PM
Bought a starter kit on thursday, lost one already by getting black out drunk last thursday (ran into dlew12 that night at ale house...good people)

Anyway, its a good alternative to the real thing which I've been trying to quit for like 2 years but obviously failed.

Not sure of any side effects if any. Ill ask my Dr tomorrow what she think since I'm going anyway. Will report back.

Never used them, but I've advertised for the companies as part of my business.  I had to do my homework on them, and I definitely suggest you do the same.

I'm not saying it's safe or not safe, but there is a ton of debate on the issue and you should make sure you're making an educated decision. There's been talk for a while that they may not even be legal soon but I haven't kept up to date on that issue.

What kind of electric cigs?  My mom just got one that is just water vapor.  Looks like she's really smoking.  Is this the same thing?  She just uses it when she goes to restaurants where there is no smoking.

Have you tried not buying any?  It's not like biting your nails where you always have them right there on your hands.

That's an even better idea. I never thought about that. That would make it much easier.

Yeah, that's what I tell my mom.  My dad smoked for 15 years and just quit one day.  And that was about 10 years ago.

I quit by sd's method and inspired by hooking up with a girl who'd been smoking when for whatever reason I hadn't been.  It was pretty easy.

Try switching to an all natural cig with NO ADDITIVES like Natural Spirits. Less nicotine and none of the other addictive stuff they put in the regular ones makes it easier to go cold turkey after a few months.

Is this like an alcoholic taking those pills that make them barf if they have a drink?

Pretty sure none of them are "just water vapor" even though thats what they'd like you to believe.  If it looks like she's blowing out smoke, that would be propylene glycol which is what is used in fog machines and it's not yet known whether inhaling it is safe.

Sounds like I'm going to die, soon, then.  I took some "drags" off of it, cause she has one that tastes like coffee, and it was weird.

my brother had been using one and it worked very well for him.  He hadn't smoked in over a year and was weaning off the nicotine content.

If you feel like quitting smoling but you also want to go a little crazy, have suicidal thoughts, and wacked out dreams, you should try Chantix, cause it does all that stuff for you.

Time to bump this thread. I'd like to give quitting another serious go. I tried switching to dip, ya' know, to ease off and stuff. Turns out dip is awesome. I tried the Fin tobacco flavored e-cig, but it just tastes like rotten chocolate. So, anybody have some good ideas for quitting cold turkey, or gradually quitting?

So, you replaced one disgusting habit with an equally and possibly more disgusting habit.  At this point it seems like your real motivation to quit is so people stop pointing out how disgusting your habits are.

No, not really. I just thought it might be easier to quit chewing tobacco than it would be to quit cigs. I was wrong, and in retrospect, this plan really had no chance of succeeding.

After going from smoking to chewing tobacco, you will want to go to a tobacco enema.  Seems like the next logical choice

I'm going to need some kind of brand recommendation, don't want to get the wrong kind of tobacco enema.

The inside of my lip gets all wrinkly when I eat too many sunflower seeds, probably better than dying at 50 though.

Well after you get sick of seeds then you quit it all for good.

That seems like a not terrible idea, since most of my problem is an oral fixation. Quit chewing my fingernails after chewing them down to the nub for the last 23 years.

Girl I work with  :bigtoke: 's on the e-cig all day long at her desk.  She probably doesn't go 5 or 10 minutes without a hit during the day. It's apparently more addictive than the real thing... Hope it isn't killing people. Probably is though   :sdeek:

I smoked for 15 years.  I tried everything:  gums, patches, pills, anything and I always ended up back smoking 1.5 packs a day.  Finally I just put them down.  Everytime I wanted to grab a cigarette I did something else.  It took a week or two for the cravings to wear off but they do and I haven't smoked now for 8 years.

So yeah, Cats is right, just rough ridin' do it and stop making dumbass excuses to go back to it.

I heard a guy on talk radio in KC a couple weeks ago that said that it is super easy to turn all kinds of drugs into E liquid on your own and to use that in these Ecigs.  Said that it is all available on Youtube and that he thinks that this is how many ppl will be consuming a bunch of drugs in the near future and that it will look just like any other smoker dumbass when doing it.

He was some chemist guy from UMKC, FWIW.

Oh, I also just stopped buying.  Like anything else... When you WANT to quit you can and will. if you don't WANT to quit you won't.  Pretty simple.  it's not like air/food/water... you can live without it.

in my early 20s I worked at a bar... I could smoke at work (while bartending). I sucked down about 2 packs a day until I was 27... messed around with quiting for a few years... then finally just made the decision to stop buying them.  I told myself... I don't smoke anymore.  Wasn't "Easy" but it was just a matter of not being weak and giving in to my craving.  Then I started feeling so much better I couldn't imagine doing it again.

I'm in the middle of quitting several bad habits, and resuming some good ones. You're right though, I'll prolly just to have to suck it up just like all the other stuff.
