I don't know about his NFL future as a QB.  Dude is a hell of an athlete but I'm not sure he throws the ball well enough to be an NFL QB.  Can't stop him from running the ball though.  You know it's coming but you can't do crap about it.

He has a great arm..Some of his throws today were absolute rockets. I was surprised.  And also has a good throwing motion.

I think his motion is kinda funky.  It's like his shoulders are parallel with the LOS or something...

Predicted Duffy, “From everything I’ve been told, I doubt of Newton makes it to the Iron Bowl.”

It's fascinating radio . . . Nick Saban should send a huge gift over to Cam Newton.   Because that story is trumping LSU-Alabama.   When this kind of stuff happens down there, it's just so much more entertaining than Midwest sports radio.

Auburn fans are in full meltdown mode.

It's just one on air meltdown after another . . . plus some more fuel to the fire on Urban Meyer involvement, because the NYT guy who was in the mix as one of the first on the story is reportedly good friends with Meyer.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton was facing possible expulsion from the University of Florida for academic cheating when he transferred to junior college in the spring of 2009, FoxSports.com reported on Monday.

Newton, a Heisman Trophy front-runner, is said to have been caught cheating three times, including putting his name on someone else's paper without that student's knowledge.

Newton attended Florida in 2007 and 2008 before transferring to Blinn College, a junior college in Texas.

Newton decided to leave Florida following a November 2008 arrest after he bought a stolen computer. The charges were dropped last December when he completed a pretrial intervention program for first-time offenders.

According to FoxSports.com, Newton again violated the university's honor code by putting his name on another student's paper and turning it in. Newton was caught after the instructor asked the real author of the paper why he had not turned in his work.

Newton turned in a second paper to the instructor, but that paper was later found to have been purchased off the Internet, according to FoxSports.com. He was to appear for a hearing in front of Florida's Student Conduct Committee during the spring semester of 2009, but instead transferred to Blinn College.

Cecil Newton, Cam's father, told FoxSports.com, "I wasn't there. I cannot confirm or deny. At a time like this, I'm taking a defensive posture."

The cheating revelations come after ESPN.com reported last week that a man claiming to represent Newton during the quarterback's recruitment out of Blinn College last year allegedly sought payments in the range of $200,000 to secure Newton's signature on a national letter-of-intent. Newton's father and Auburn have denied any wrongdoing in the quarterback's recruitment.

The NCAA is reviewing allegations that a man allegedly tried to secure payment from Mississippi State during Newton's recruitment.

After throwing for a career-high 317 yards and four touchdowns against Chattanooga on Saturday, Newton again professed his innocence.

"I haven't done anything wrong," Newton said. "I'm an Auburn athlete, and I'm still playing for Auburn. I love Auburn, and that's all I've got to say."

A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press Friday that Auburn has had "no contact whatsoever" with the man allegedly involved.

ESPN.com reported Thursday that a teammate of John Bond, a Mississippi State quarterback in the 1980s, contacted Bond soon after Newton's official visit to the school during the Ole Miss game in December 2009. He said he was representing Newton and soliciting a six-figure payment.

Sources told ESPN.com that Bond's former teammate is Kenny Rogers, who played at Mississippi State from 1982 to '85. Bond told ESPN.com that the former teammate told him other schools already had offered $200,000, but because Newton really liked Mississippi State and had a relationship with coach Dan Mullen from their time at Florida, Mississippi State could get him for $180,000.

"He said it would take some cash to get Cam," Bond said. "I called our athletic director, Greg Byrne, and he took it from there. That was pretty much it."

When asked following Saturday's game about the allegations, Newton said, "I wish I could talk about it right now but I can't. That's how it goes. ... I don't think it's right for me to talk about it right now."

Rogers denied having solicited Newton to Mississippi State in an interview with ESPN 103.3 FM in Dallas. Rogers has a company called Elite Football Preparation, which holds camps in Alabama, Chicago and Mississippi, and matches football prospects with colleges.

"A school never paid me for a kid and alumni never paid me for a kid. Period. Point blank," Rogers said.

Auburn, in the meantime, has not received a letter of inquiry from the NCAA, the person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press Friday, on condition of anonymity.

The person said Newton's eligibility "has at no point been in jeopardy."

"Let me tell you something. This is a great kid," Auburn head coach Gene Chizik said after Saturday's victory. "I can speak intelligently on that one. This is a great kid. And you can go back and you can talk to elementary coaches, high school, this is a great kid and he's been a great kid at Auburn University every day he's been around me, this staff and his teammates.

"I don't know what's out there and I don't know what hits you're talking about, but I can assure you this: this is a phenomenal young man. Make no mistake about that."

Report: Newtons admit pay for play in phone talks with recruiter

Two sources who recruit for Mississippi State said that Cecil Newton and his son, quarterback Cam Newton, admitted in separate phone conversations to a pay-for-play plan while Newton was being recruited late last year.

Mississippi State compliance officials relayed the alleged conversations to Southeastern Conference compliance officials in January, according to two other sources close to the football program.

Prior to Newton's commitment to Auburn, one of the recruiters said Cecil Newton told him it would take "more than a scholarship" to bring his son to Mississippi State, a request the source said the school would not meet. Cecil Newton also referred the recruiter to a third person that would provide more specifics, the source said.

After Newton committed to Auburn, another source said an emotional Cam Newton phoned another recruiter to express regret that he wouldn't be going to Mississippi State, stating that his father Cecil had chosen Auburn for him because "the money was too much."

The NCAA is investigating allegations surrounding the Newtons in regards to the recruiting process. Cam Newton, who is having a Heisman-caliber season for No. 2 Auburn, declined comment.

Cecil Newton, who previously has denied any wrongdoing, did not respond to an e-mail request for comment Tuesday night.

However, when reached late Tuesday night by phone by FoxSports.com, Cecil Newton said he had no comment.

"I'm not going to confirm nor deny nothing that has been taking place," Cecil Newton said.

He also said he knew nothing about the report when asked if he'd seen it.

"I've answered what I need to answer," Cecil Newton told FoxSports.com. "If they're out there, go with it and make the decision or determination based on whatever you've got to say."

Cecil Newton also described all of the allegations about his son as "a witch hunt," according to FoxSports.com.

"They can continue doing whatever they're doing, sir," Cecil Newton told the website. "I'm just in support of my son."

Auburn did not respond to a request for comment. The school has repeatedly said it looked into Newton's recruitment and that he remains eligible.

Earlier Tuesday, Auburn found itself defending Newton in the wake of allegations of academic cheating when he was at Florida. The Tigers' coach, Gene Chizik, dismissed a FoxSports.com report as "pure garbage" in an emotional 4-minute, 25-second rant.

"I'm standing up here on a very important week trying to defend something that's garbage," Chizik said. Auburn faces Georgia on Saturday.

FoxSports.com reported Monday that Newton was caught cheating three times and was to appear for a hearing in front of Florida's Student Committee facing possible expulsion during the spring semester of 2009.

Newton transferred to Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas, where he played last season. He declined to discuss the latest report, which came on the heels of former Mississippi State quarterback John Bond telling ESPN.com that someone claiming to represent the Newton family sought money during his recruitment by the school.

Sources told ESPN.com the man who said he was representing the Newtons was Kenny Rogers, who played in the 1980s for Mississippi State alongside Bond.

"I'm not going to entertain something that took place not three months, not six months, not a year but two years ago," Cam Newton said. "I'm not going to sit up here and say anything about it, whether I did or did not do it, because I don't want to beat a dead horse talking about it. It's not going to affect me any way, shape or fashion."

In Gainesville, Florida coach Urban Meyer said in a statement that neither he nor anyone on his staff leaked information on Newton's academic record, calling it a "ridiculous claim."

"For anyone to think that I or anyone on our staff may have leaked information about private student records to the media doesn't know us very well," Meyer said. "It's a ridiculous claim and simply not true."

Cam Newton said Meyer was a man of integrity.

"I would hope he wouldn't say anything like that," he said.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, who also recruited Newton out of Blinn, said he saw "nothing at all" out of the ordinary during that process.

"Our recruitment of Cameron could not have been better, or was just fine," Stoops said. "I didn't notice anything and none of our coaches did as we were recruiting him."

And what has Dennis Dodd uncovered??? Oh Nose!!!!

Multiple traffic tickets by Cam Newton

Quote
Cam Newton apparently had multiple traffic tickets during 2007 and 2008 while at Florida according to records obtained from the Alachua County Clerk of the Court website.

The website shows that a Cameron Jerrell Newton with the Auburn quarterback's birthdate (May 11, 1989) had 12 tickets over a two-year period. All of the tickets were for what would be considered minor moving or non-moving traffic violations. One of those tickets remains unresolved according to the records and a court spokesperson.

"I don't know why it hasn't been sent to a collection agency yet," the official said.

The ticket, for driving with a suspended license, was given on Nov. 3, 2008 according to the official. It was continued to June 8, 2009. Attempts to reach the attorney identified by the court who represented Newton were not immediately successful.

Gainesville, Fla. is in Alachua County.

Cam needs to be apprehended immediately before someone gets seriously hurt.

Good to see you have the Iron Bowl covered.  I see you have already mentioned the Auburn-Bama game.  I noticed that you have already previewed the yearly matchup between the national powerhouses from the state of Alabama.  And you're totally right- losing a Heisman candidate to scandel during a run at the MNC will clearly have no ill effects.  That's why it happens all the time.  Like yearly.  Pretty much every year.  About once every 12 months.

Your original post said, "rest of the season" . . . all the things you mentioned are all long term possible outcomes.

The notion that no one will tune into a Auburn participating MNC because Cam Newton isn't there is absurd as well . . . if Newton were to be suspended now and they still make the MNC game, it would be a ratings bonanza for too many reasons to explain here.   If he gets suspended right befor a MNC, the initial ratings will be off the charts because people will want to see how Auburn does without him.
