People who went to Madness, was there anything worth me knowing about Myles, Sprads, SpriForThree, etc. from last night? Basketball stuff, not dancing/adorableness.
-
spri was a little smaller and smiled much more than i expected.
-
Really? He looks rough ridin' huge in the pics I've seen. rough ridin' basketballs look like softballs in his hands...

Not really, there was no defense or any effort at all, which made it more fun than if they'd been serious. I think it was Sprads that didn't even get to the last rack in the three point contest, might have trouble with blocked shots.
-
Pretty sure it was Mcgruds that didn't get to the last rack but i could be wrong.
Myles and Freddy both looked really frightened when they got the ball and tried to get rid of it as if they were playing a game of hot potato. I was really excited to see both of them play but I came away disappointed in that aspect.
Southwell seemed to be joining in the fun but still showed some skills along the way. Looks pretty ripped already so he should be really junkyardy soon.
Sprads has a beautiful shot and took his 3-point shooting seriously. Hadn't been on his bandwagon yet, but I liked what I saw of him and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the first game as much as Freddy now.
Curtis has obviously been working on his outside shot and it actually looks pretty good.
-
Number 5 is awesome.

The scrimmage was a complete goof with no defense, traveling, double dribbling, fake football plays and the like. Total up and down the court with the goal of getting a dunk. Jake didn't even take off his long warmups.
Allowed Judge, Kelly and even H-R to show off (and alas JamSam would as well) but not the kind of exhibition Freddy would excel at.
Sprads didn't do very well in the 3-point competition or do anything noticeable in the scrimmage; didn't watch him in warmups. Russell hit a coupe of threes in the scrimmage and was hitting in warmups. Southwell looks like a player. Williams didn't stand out.
Again, have to emphasis how unstructured the scrimmage was and let-have-a-good-time approach the players brought to it. Really couldn't judge anybody's game from it.

yeah, boring as eff. feel bad for the fans that traveled to see that.
-
I read 'tards posts that tried to break down what they saw from the players at madness. Absolutely hilarious.
-
Russell was the only real bright spot IMHO (at least what was shown last night. Which is still huge, we need a guard to step up and can play PG/SG).
-

Really? How exactly was he a bright spot? In the midst of everyone rough ridin' around he actually took it semi-serious.

Anyone who doesn't think JHR was the mvp last night is a rough ridin' tard and shouldn't attend one junkyard cats game.

Handles are looking better and even his dunk was pretty impressive for a guy his size. Obviously his 3-point shooting was the crowd favorite but his overall athleticism was the real bright spot for me.
We'll see if that translates into a productive inside game though since I didn't see that he put on much weight.
-
I liked Will's Alley-Oop!
-
it has been a while, but someone on the other site said he went from 218 last year to 240(or something like that) this year. no clue if true.

Yeah, it all went to his thighs!
Srsly though, during the telecast when JHR sat down his thighs looked huge, which (and I could see JT starting a fight over this) is probably where you want him to gain the weight first. Would explain why when you look at him it doesn't seem like he's gained much weight at all.
-
Yeah, it all went to his thighs!
it is GOOD when post players have big asses. a lot more important to have a huge ass than to have a big upper body.
-
Number 5 is awesome.
Loved Dave Lewis covering the mic and asking "who's #5"? to everyone at the table and no one knew or they didn't tell him. Felt sorry for Alex.
-

Yep . . . happens every year. The pretend wannabe coaches are now out in full force in Tardville.

yeah, boring as eff. feel bad for the fans that traveled to see that.
I'm sure the 5,000 fans that bothered to show up for a top 10 team's Midnight Madness were awfully disappointed.

Tired from celebrating Curb Stomp '10 at ku track and football complex.

yeah, but these things are really for the recruits, not the fans. nice to get a commit from a first rounder.
-
Not nearly as disappointing as your fans' trip to OKC.

It wasmore like 8-9K if I had to estimate. 2/3 full. Nothing spectacular. But, certainly not a dissapointment.
Returners: Not much to report. pretty much a globe trotters expo out there. At one point, it was 6 on 6. JHR - still super skinny. But he's legit 7'0, coordinated, fast (relatively) and can move well. He's also got good ball handling skills and touch. Not a bad combination. Irving can jump. really, really high. he also looked jacked. by virtue of clemente's departure, he's gonna get a lot of minutes. i guess we'll see if he can sink/swim.
Newcomers: spradling can stroke. probably the most pure form shooter on the team. I can see him giving some quality white guy minutes this year. Southwell is built like lance harris. Longer arms. athletic as crap. other than the long arms, didn't see much comparison to Akim Wright. quicker, better ball handler. Asprilla (pronounced Ass-puh-rilo by our dumbass announcer) looked a lot smaller than I expected. Maybe 6'6, 6'7. Didn't do anything out there. Juevol looked terrible.
-
Nino?
-
How the hell could Spri only be 6'6" or 6'7"?
-
Nino?
Adorable smile

dunno. but if you look at the second post in thread you will notice that i reported this as well and i am very "in tune" with things like this. i'm very sleuthy. guy is just not that tall. seemed pretty happy go lucky though. exact opposite of what i expected.

He looked pretty akward at times. Not, in a basketball kind of way, though. More in a human interaction kind of way. Had kind of a dumb grin on his face half the time. As long as he can ball, I don't really give a crap if he's awkard.
As far as his balling ability, see the rest of the posts. It was an exhibition. Probably Definately would have rather watched 20 minutes of little cat slam jam.
Asspuhrillo may be 6'8 if he wears thick-soled shoes.
-
Well crap. I was kinda penciling him at the 5. Colon sucked but at least he had the body of a center.
-
fwiw, Freddy is taller than Lou

I disagree.
-
So Sweet Lou was only like 6'6"? eff, he looked quite a bit taller than that? He was taller than CK- how tall is CK then? Like 6'5"? I thought this team was supposed to be long...

Sweet Lou was a legit 6'9-6'10.
-
That's what I thought. I also (apparently mistakenly) thought Freddy was in the 6'9"-6'10" neighborhood.
-
pictures speak a thousand words. Anybody have any photos from MM?
I'm just passing on my own observation from 15 rows back. He didn't look that tall. Looked a few inches shorter than Kelly.
-
Draw your own conclusions. It looks to me like Luis and Freddy are about the same size.

2 quick observations:
1. Irving can really get up. I knew Judge was an elite dunker and he absolutely lived up to that, but to me, Irving was the most pleasant surprise of the dunk contest, I just don't recall him being that athletic last year. Doesn't guarantee him success on the hardwood as a KSU Cat, but certainly can't hurt him.
2. Gruds was the only dude to shoot a true jump shot during the 3 point contest. Props to him for not selling out.
-

Freddy has an excessively relaxed posture.

freddy also has about six inches of hair in that pic. man, oh man though. i can't believe how much better he looks now. it's like kstate takes their basketball players and puts them into some kind of how to look really handsome school or something as soon as they arrive on campus. just incredible work.

Here it is:
was eatin tailgate next to bball tailgate and undies was talking to cruits about how ku and texas would be the best 2 teams in the country saying ku had 8 pros and 3 lotteries also heard him talking about elite non con sched for ksu.
saw asprilla and was like he aint as big as colon. then standing next to each other asprilla was actually bigger.
then high stepped past wally back to the tgate when we scored to make it 38-0 right before half
-
Sweet. Not sure why, but I'm really jazzed about the thought of having a legit 5 for once. One that doesn't consider 8 pts a great night.

I remember this thread because it was when I learned what the word "allometrically" means.
