Quote
“We’re gonna go on to some different things, ask them to get deeper,” Gill says, sounding more like a youth minister than a football coach. “Men gotta talk. I want them to talk about deeper issues more than just ‘I like football, I’m this fall, I’m that fast.’ If we don’t communicate, we’re not gonna be successful on the football field.”

Quote
With Gill at the podium, KU’s media day session didn’t approach football details. It was about getting to know the new man in charge, and Gill relayed a story from his time at Buffalo that gets to the heart of why he’s here. He was recruiting a player from a broken home, and Gill could sense tension between the boy’s mother and his father and stepmother.

“Long story short,” Gill says, “we all prayed together. In less than 48 hours, they were talking with each other. They felt good about each other. They thanked me, thanked us, for helping them mend that together. That to me, that’s what college football is all about.”

No, that's what that guy with long hair, Birkenstocks, and an acoustic guitar is all about.

can anyone else picture the backup players making a tunnel with their arms for the starters to run through when they come off the field.  you know, like the parents did in kindergarten soccer?

Holy crap, have I been all wrong about "what college football is all about".   Bill, make note, you need to be able to "mend that together" when you recruit from a "broken" family.

From a journalist's perspective sometimes the "f" key can look a lot like the "t" key. It's one of the rigors of the profession. I'd love to explain it sometime if you want to talk about it.

Greg Sharpe was on BITB's show this afternoon discussing each North team's prospects.  When it came to Turner Gill and ku, he described Gill's discussions at the Big 12 Media Days as "strange" because he only talked about building relationships, and nothing of substance.  Sharpe thought Kansas fans should be disturbed at Gill's lack of discussion of the team's strengths or weaknesses, or what he sees as positives in moving towards the season.

Stanbot said Braden Wilson is an undiscussed gem for the 'Cats, and said he was better than Rock Cartwright (which is high  praise being compared to a longtime NFL fullback).

KU went 19-16 vs. the North since Lew took over in '03.  Dax conveniently blames Mangino for his first year in the program when he took over Terry Allen's f*ck up.  Of all the Big 12 North teams, KU is the only team to play in a BCS bowl.

Comparing Braden Wilson and Rock is just plain stupid.  Totally different types of players.  Wilson is much more like Lazetich.  And Rock is not a longtime NFL fullback.  He's played tailback much more than fullback in the NFL.  (And he's a special teams stud.)

Gill added two 3 star kids who each had one other BCS offer.  Not exactly something to get all excited about.  Good news for Ben though, the KU class saw a jump to an average of 1.93 stars!!
