I'm in the process of renewing our league from last year. I need to know by the end of this week if there is anyone that will not be participating in this year's league that was in last year's league, or if you plan to play again this year. I'm thinking about having the draft during the evening of Sunday, August 22.

If anyone new would like to join our league, let me know in this thread as well. tia

Don't play with a defensive player

Tom Brady
Joe Flacco*
Santana Moss
Steve Smith (NYG)
Donald Driver
Santonio Holmes*
Lance Moore (possibly, waiting on waiver to clear, if it doesn't Devery Henderson)*
Jacoby Jones*
Adrian Peterson
Peyton Hillis
Ahmad Bradshaw*
Deangelo Williams*
Antonio Gates
Nate Kaeding
Baltimore Ravens Defense.

*sitting on bench, unless bye week comes up.

Any suggestions on what to do? I average like 100+ per game, but still can't seem to win. Should i not really change anything and just let it play out? I don't think there is really too much that I can do.

I just score shittons of points because we get a point per completion and the Bengals do nothing but throw the ball. Plus Mayo had 16 solo tackles last night.

I've only done fantasy for two years now. I didn't set up the league, and it's always been PPR. I just am curious how it would change how i built a team. Frankly, i don't think it would.

just be glad you didn't accidentally get in a league that gave 1 point for every yard of kick and punt returns per player and special teams.  pretty bad when the Cleveland browns defense was the MVP of the league, and your typical starting running back wasn't on anyones rosters.

Yeah, that would get ridiculous. I just don't see how PPR would mess with the receivers. When i look at the top receivers in our league, per points. No one seems out of place.

This is a 1 point per reception, 1 point per 10 yards receiving.

Makes you think about what type of receiver to take. Someone who is a possession receiver and gets 10+ catches doing dirty work over the middle can become just as valuable as a speed receiver who ends up with 2-3 catches for 50+ yards.  Also allows receiving RB's to become more valuable. Makes you think about what type of player you're going to get other than just what big name you can get.

I dunno, I mean if you like it whatever, it's a personal preference.  I don't like it because catches don't really show production.  I think PPR is pointless.

Makes you think about what type of player you're going to get other than just what big name you can get.

yeah i can see that. PPR leagues seem to even things out with receivers, imo. Being a slot guy doesn't make Wes Welker or Davone Bess less valuable in the real NFL. Receivers like Moss and Desean Jackson are too streaky for my tastes.

I've made some good WR pickups the last several weeks. Now i'm going to have tough decisions the next couple weeks. I got Davone Bess, Steve Johnson, Deon Branch, Kenny Britt now. Along with Reggie Wayne and Desean Jackson(bye) coming off of the concussion. Basically i need to bench one of those guys this week. The projections tell me to bench Bess, but i'm not so sure. Any help? PPR league, btw.

4, since i have no RB options at my W/R position. Im starting Wayne for sure, Jackson is on a bye. so i need three more.

3 WR positions. plus a flex position that can be a RB or WR. And I don't really have a better RB option.

That's tough man. Here's what I would do:

Devone Bess- play him if Jonathan Joseph is out again this week. Cincinnati secondary struggles without him and they could be without Pacman Jones too. He got injured last week toward the end of the game. So keep an eye on the Bengals injury report. Play him for sure if one or both of those two are out.

Steve Johnson- So so option. Most likely to get most of the looks as Evans will probably get the majority of the attention from KC defense.

Deion Branch- Getting the highest number of looks in the Pats pass heavy offense. Somewhat of a tough defensive match up though.  Vikings likely to run the ball a lot this week though, limiting New England's possessions.

Kenny Britt- Pretty much a must start now. He's on fire recently and it hasn't mattered whether its Young or Collins throwing to him.

So as of right now, I would go Wayne, Britt, Branch and Johnson(unless Bengal's injury report reveals something different).

Thanks for the insight TTAF. You obviously know way more than me. My thoughts...

Bess - I will definitely pay attention to the Injury Report. Cinci likes to pass, so i figure it might be a longer game. Bess's # of catches make him more valuable in my PPR league.

Johnson - He's paid off for me since i picked him up two weeks ago.(21 and 29 points) Still pretty nervous about starting him though. I might play him for the simple fact of going against KC's pass D.

Branch - Still not sold on him. Had a great game his first week back with NE, but last week was kinda meh. It will be a tough matchup, but NE doesn't have many other options, so I will most likely stick with him.

Britt - I've been watching him on the waiver wire since about week 3. Finally got a hold of him. I pretty much have to start him after last week. He's been above 10 points in all but the first week of the season. I know SD is a crappy team, but they given up the least passing YPG in the NFL. So I'm still nervous.

Yeah, all good thoughts. It's usually best to go with what your own gut tells you. I usually do terrible when I second guess myself.  I didn't do a very good job paying attention to byes during the draft so my usual: Roddy White, Hakeem Nicks, Jeremy Maclin and Michael Turner are all off.

I'm feeling pretty good about my replacements of: Pierre Garcon, Deion Branch, Dez Bryant and Ryan Torrain though.   Whatever you end up going with, good luck man!

Welp, Britt mumped me over. Stupid injury. Still came out all right. I ended up sitting Branch, which was a good call.

I got two RBs on a bye, so i need to pick up 1 off waviers. Yahoo is really projecting Blount to dominate the next couple games, but i'm skeptical. I think Green-Ellis may be a more reliable pickup. Thoughts?

Green-Ellis. I keep thinking to pick him up but I have Chris Johnson and Steven Jackson, so it's kind of pointless for me.

Sometimes you pick good players up and dump that backup kicker, TE or something just so someone else can't have them.

double true on this. if i see a dangerous player and i have a person on my bench who will never see the light of day i will pick up the dangerous player in a heartbeat. so 1) like sanchez said, no one else can have him and he won't come back to hurt me and 2) trade value later on down the line.

In our league you can only have so many at each position, or I probably would.

have a decision to make for this week

the need: make a decision to play 1 more running back alongside adrian peterson.

the choices:

ahmad bradshaw playing seattle
peyton hillis playing new england
legarrette blount playing atlanta.

right now i have settled on bradshaw. anyone think of any reason i shouldn't play bradshaw?

that's a toughie. Bradshaw probably a good play. Jacobs doesn't steal too many touchdowns from him, does he?

Hillis has been badass in my league...he has quite a few catches.

bradshaw has been fairly consistent. and has gotten a ton of carries over jacobs. all three of teams i'm going against are top 10 in rush defense. however seattle gives up a lot of points, especially against a balanced team. i always like having a qb that is competent beside a rb.

i would love to use hillis but he belongs to a fairly one dimensional team. and the pats are well coached enough to where i think they may shut him down a little. but hillis is pretty incredible.

blount is a risk move but the upside is huge, however atl has the best rush defense of the 3 teams.

so one vote for hillis and one vote for bradshaw.

I'm starting Wayne, but should I start Miles Austin or Brandon Marshall beside him? The idea that Marshall should have a break out game soon, but Austin is the safer bet. Think Austin may have a down week against Green Bay, but will probably end up getting 35-40% of the looks from Kitna. Marshall could easily be overshadowed by Bess, which happens everytime I start him.

Thoughts?

gotta look at qb production. i would give the nod to marshall. it seems like the cowboys are falling down a black hole and won't get out of it this week. marshall is a top 3 (in NFL) receiver imo.

nope. McGahee has been pretty consistent. I'm leaning him right now, hoping he will steal a touchdown away from Rice.

Need to pickup a QB this week to cover a bye. Garrard vs. Tex. or Fitzpatrick vs. Det.

Tex. pass Defense is horrible, but Garrard is very inconsistent. He will either put up huge numbers or nothing.
Fitzpatrick seems pretty reliable, but just lost Roscoe Parrish to injury. I'm leaning to Fitz, thoughts??

btw, Cassel, Henne, Bradford, Young, Mcnabb are all available as well.

I picked up Young for my bye with Rodgers. Adding Moss is just going to open up the field for everyone else and Young went into week 9 as the top rated passer in the NFL with a 103.1 QB rating.

Fitzpatrick is a solid option against Detroit too though. Garrard is too much risk in his inconsistency in my opinion.

Definitely Young or Fitzpatrick. Since the Bills are always losing, they are always passing. And with Evans and Johnson, he's got options. But you make a good point about having Johnson as a receiver, so maybe Young is worth a shot. Just not a guarantee that they'll be passing the entire game like Fitzpatrick will be.

Garrard isn't a bad one week option.  He faces Houston.  Even Matt Cassel lit Houston's pass D up.

Changed my mind on Young. Saw that Tennessee is only throwing the ball like 20 times a game. I'm gonna go with Fitzpatrick throwing 35-40 times a game and against Detroit's piss poor pass defense.

Question of the week,

Peyton Manning @NE or Matt Ryan @ STL?  Got burned by Peyton last week and lost a close game when Matt Ryan would have helped me bury the other guy.

I would consider Manning un-benchable, although Ryan is very viable option as well.

I won one of my espn league games 112-6 this week.  The other guy hadn't been paying attention since early in the season (still had Ryan Grant starting).  Most of his starters were Saints or Packers, both on byes.  Only Berrian and Ricky Williams were active, and Berrian got no catches.  I had Vick among others.

Is it a good idea to start two receivers from the same team?  Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are the two in question. I also have Gates (in our league we don't have TEs, so I start him as a receiver), Steve Johnson and Reggie Wayne. Thinking about starting Austin, Bryant and Wayne.

I have to make a decision on a flex position....so it can either be a WR or a RB. PPR. I have to choose between...

Bess vs. Chi
Branch vs Ind
Green-Ellis vs Ind
Reggie Bush vs Sea

I've been going with Bess, as he has been very consistent until this week when he lost his No. 1 and 2 QBs.Tyler Thigpen is his QB this week. Not sure i can trust Bush yet, since this is his first game back, but he is projected higher than anyone. I'm leaning towards Branch since he is healthy. Thoughts?

Yes, I'm relying on it, unfortunately, in two leagues.  If he gets 80 yards (or 8 pts), I win both.  I figure a pulled hammy in the 1st qtr will take care of it.

Probably game-time decision.  Watch pregame shows and they should have more.  Plan on being available to switch it just before kick if Gates can't go.

Woodhead may get more carries this game than you think, decreasing Green-Ellis' chances of having a decent game.

However, I doubt New England passes too much in the 2nd half, assuming their comfortably ahead and want to run the clock out.

Bess finally had a good game last week with Henne back, thinking about him for the WR/RB slot. I don't trust Bush yet, he looked bad last week. I'm afraid SF will be down early against GB and he won't be utilized. Not sure about the Lawfirm against NYJ defense. He only had 1.9 y/per carry in the 1st game against NYJ. If Branch isn't matched up against Revis, i might play him.

I guess my thinking now is. RB - Westbrook   WR/RB - Bess

RB
Reggie Bush vs. @Cin

Frank Gore injury screwed me too....  I picked up Westbrook and he is my play for now.  Look into Mike Goodson for Carolina though. I also picked him up. He has a great match-up against a terrible Seattle rush defense and has been putting up really good numbers the last few weeks. Especially in your PPR format.

On your WR's, it's a tougher decision in my opinion. Branch showed really good signs of life and chemistry with Brady on Thanksgiving, but it was against the Lions and he hasn't done it consecutively all year. I would probably go with Bess against Cleveland too.

Got a crucial game this week since Peyton decided to throw 4 interceptions last week and caused me to lose by 1 point, losing my division lead the week before playoffs. Winning this week is the difference between 1st place and a week 1 bye, and 4th place (even with the second best record after a loss).

got a WR question, Hartline for Miami against Cleveland at home, or Boldin for Baltimore @ Pitt. Boldin been's slacking lately, and I just picked up Hartline. Not a lot of choices left since my other backups are Britt and Sims-Walker.

at RB got Bradshaw and Mendenhall.  How is Baltimore's run defense? Seems like Mendenhall didn't do much against them at home last time.  Could pick up Ricky Williams, Sproles, or Toby Gerhart.

TE, Greg Olson @ detroit, or Gronkowski agaisnt the Jets?

Def Green Bay or Bears?

Need to maximize points this week, since I'm taking on the (for now) best team in the league.

Green-Ellis vs. GB - Been awesome the last several weeks - Leaning to him.
Westbrook vs. @SD
Bush vs. @Bal - May finally be over the injury. Tough matchup against Bal though.

Steve Johnson vs. @Mia - Had a couple rough games...but i still gotta go with him since Lee Evans went down. He's now the #1 guy in Buf.
Branch vs. GB - Went off the last couple weeks...Definitely leaning to him.
Bess vs. Buf - Been pretty shitty lately.

Isn't practicing all week and is a game time decision. Said they won't decide until Saturday at the absolute earliest. I'm saying don't play him because they aren't even letting him watch film. Which really sucks for me cause he's my starter. Trying to decide between Garrard and Kitna for this week's options.

Nicks hasn't done dick since about week 9.  Had him in my one money league.  Was 8-1 when he stopped performing and Romo got hurt.  I went winless after that and missed the playoffs, despite having Chris Johnson and Arian Foster.

Same thoughts I'm having. If Branch can put up 151 yards and a td against a top 5 defense in a blizzard, I would think he can do alright against GB.

Also Jets D or Oakland D?

Just looking for a second opinion:

3 WR positions, no ppr.

Roddy White   @SEA
Hakeem Nicks  PHI
Jeremy Maclin  @NYG
Sidney Rice      CHI
Deion Branch   GB
Pierre Garcon  JAC

Right now I'm going with: White, Nicks and Branch

He had 6 catches for 128 last week against the Vikings and Steve Smith and Mario Manningham are out this week. I don't know about Asante Samuals this week, but he was out last week, putting the Eagles down their top two corners. Plus you know the Eagles are going to score, so the Giants are going to have to keep up, imo.

Tough call. I'd say they are pretty much a push as both offenses are they are playing can put up points fast. I would give the nod to Oakland though as I would think Pittsburgh's defense is going to put it's offense in better field position, allowing them to score more. Also, Oakland has the home field advantage(if this can be considered in the NFL).

Another dilemma...

NYG D vs. Phi.

or

NYJ D vs. @Pit.

or should i just go get a D off of FAs? Carolina's and Arizona's D are both available, and they play each other.

Unsung good defensive plays for this week, imo:

New England vs. Green Bay(most likely no Rodgers)
Cleveland at Cincinnati (dangerous, but lots of turnovers and Cleveland has completely shut down rush offenses this year)
Atlanta at Seattle (Mike Williams is back, but Hasselbeck threw 4 ints last week and Atlanta is tough against the run)
Miami vs Buffalo (No Lee Evans allows them to control Johnson more and focus on the run)
Arizona at Carolin (Purely based off of turnovers. There are going to be a LOT of rushing yards in this game)
Dallas vs Washington (Dallas really strong against the run, apparently the only thing Washington can do. McNabb has been way down and threatened to be benched this week)

None of this is to say that Giants vs Eagles (Giants get tons of sacks, but Eagles score a lot) or Jets at Steelers (really tough road game and think that Steelers D is going to put their offense in a good position to score) are terrible plays, just risky.

Do you think NYG will get many sacks against Vick though?

I'm thinking of picking up Ari D and taking a chance.

It's a tough call because Vick is so elusive, but of any team in the NFL, the Giants D-line has the athleticism to contain him and bring him down. He's been getting hit a lot lately and I think this is a sign that the Eagles' O-line is fairly week (it's not that the receivers aren't getting open soon enough).

I'm really bad at defenses, sorry, but I would say both NYJ or ARI d's would be decent plays. Neither are going to compete with your opponents Steeler's D though, they're freaking disgusting...

Oh yeah, interesting find I read about today if you're hurting for a WR. Minnesota is most likely going to start Joe Webb at QB. He was drafted as a WR and therefore fantasy eligible at WR and QB.  10 points(at least in my league) is a pretty mediocre week for a QB in my league but a really good week for a WR. So even if he has a fairly bad game at QB he could give you good WR points.

Just a thought if anyone was looking.

Here's one...

I've got Foster and McCoy as my RB's

Choice Austin, Nicks, and Britt at WR.  Nicks for sure.  The other?

Then, with the one I don't choose, do I use him or Blount at flex?  Blount plays Detroit, Britt against Houston, neither good against the run/pass respectively.

Austin hasn't had 100 yds since week 8.  Most of those were under 60.  Only 3 TD's in those weeks, with 2 of them in the same week.  Trouble is, he only had 7 yds to go with them.  Nicks had 120 last week and is probably my best option.  Britt is back to 100% and still looked good whether VY or KC were under center earlier in the year.

This is also the other league that I had besides goEMAW that I had Rodgers.  Luckily I have Ryan and Roethlisberger in for relief.  Or should I pick up Tebow?  He's such a Godly man and all that he must be good at football.

I know, but Austin has a much better chance to explode than Britt. I never, EVER trust a player their first week back at 100%. It takes a game back to get back into the routine. This is the same philosophy I would use to tell you to NOT start Tebow. My league hands out a crap ton of points for QB's who rush, so Roethlisberger would be my choice. But in any standard league, I think Ryan is a pretty great start.

Sorry, was unaware about Britt. And the sarcasm, but I'm glad it was there. I always trust a player who has had more big games, like Austin. But you seem to be leaning towards Britt pretty hard, and if you choose Austin and he does poorly while Britt does well, I'll feel really bad. So at this point, I'd say Britt.

Dirty Sanchez, I hope you went with Britt. Sorry I doubted you.

Should I give up on Hillis? I have Chris Johnson and Steven Jackson. Jackson is always good for a 10-13 pt range, usually not much higher, rarely much lower. Johnson is so hit-or-miss. Not surprised when he gets 25 pts, and not surprised when he gets 2 pts. Thoughts?

Hope you all did well. I won my week by 30 points. On to the Championship now.

I'm playing turns cats trashy, and he is a lurker on this thread, so I'm not going to be able to give out too much strategy. Will still try to help those who need it some though.

i took him in the 5th round of my league, just in case he plays decently by mid season.

Keep Cam and Adrian. Due to Forte's injury, you might get him in the 2nd round anyway. Gronk is a TE. He will be available in the 3rd round unless you have better options.
NOTE: I have no idea how your scoring works, so what I just said may not work with your scoring system.

Problem with Gronk is his TD's are going to go down. I mean they HAVE to go down from last year. I still think he's a top 5 TE, but I don't think he's going to score like a #1 WR this year. Of that group I'd keep Cam & Forte (depending on if you lose a draft pick this year, and what round draft pick you lose...)

O man asava, you could of joined our super elite "K-States Finest Bros" league with stans, harri, tristy, murph, van heche etc. Brungy has had his application in for the past 3 years so we finally kicked out mike D and added him. Chuck sent us his resignation letter 2 days before the draft so we had to scramble and fill the slot with puff meyers....who promptly missed the draft party and autodrafted.

I'll keep you in mind for next year when we reevalute puff's membership.

Jamaaaaaaal Charles needs to frigging sack up, my elite lineup after the draft looks like a toiletbowl flush following a Charlie Weiss upperdecker after eating nothing but corn and drinking nothing but Natty Light.    :goodbyecruelworld:

Shonn Greene plays the worse of the two defenses, but imo doesn't have big play capabilities of Brown. However, there is a possibility that McCoy comes back this week, and after last weeks performance he could be used less...

i am in a league of 13 other guys and have been for about 5 years.  Some are friends and cousins, and then the rest are just people that i know but am not close friends with.

A couple of us lost in the first round of the playoffs last week, and we decided to empty our rosters for the rest of the playoffs so that we can get a better draft pick next year.

Woof, fantasy football is serious business.  Pretty sure we killed the league.  There are about 10 different threads on the discussion board about how terrible we are.

That's a good rule. One of the leagues I am in needs to implement something like that. I won it last year and this year we started with two keepers (I kept Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster) then it was random draft order to start and I got the second pick (grabbed Brees).  People were pissed

Let's just assume we're dealing with a 10 team league for simplicity's sake... If you pick #1 you get 3 of the top 21 players, including the top player.

Also, the difference between the value of the #1 player and the #10 player is usually a bigger gap than the difference between #11 and #20.

Keeper leagues are different though since the top 10 guys are usually off the board.

I like to pick between 4-6 in a 10 team league. The top 5 RB's are usually interchangeable. Hell, AP was considered to be easily the #1 pick this year and he won't finish as the best back.

were in the semis- heres the situation:

player 1- down 6 with Justin Tucker to play Monday night
player 2- up 6 with Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson to play Monday night

Matt Stafford's INT in the last minute scores him -2 points to give him 7 points. Calvin Johnson finishes with 98 yards for 9 points. Justin Tucker scores 23 points (3 x <30 yard FG, 4 for 40-50 yard FG, 2 x 5 for 50+ yard FG).

player 1 wins by 1 point to advance to the finals.
