Title: Masoli
Post by: steve dave on July 20, 2010, 05:58:54 PM
Is there some way for us, as fans, to extend him an scholly offer and somehow make it known that he is a welcome EMAW and is pretty much guaranteed to start and junk?  I mean, I don't trust our staff to do it.

We should also send him a KSTATEO poster and let him know that nobody will care if he steals a humvee at Ft. Riley day or somebody's bike at Harley day.

It would infuriate many of our fans, so it's probably exactly what it takes to win.

The MOST naive fan base in the BCS.

I moved to Oregon a couple months ago, and the first thing I asked my Oregon-alum co-workers was how can K-State get Masoli?

They were all:  :surprised:, "but he's a criminal."
I was all: , "you just don't get it."

We need everyone to donate crap (laptops, PS3's, tv's etc..) to the Masoli steal fund.  Once he gets to EMAW land we'll let him think he's stealing crap.  He'd be all like, "this is the easiest place to steal crap, I love it here" and then he'd score a shazbot! ton of touchdowns.  :lynchmob:

Nope.  He's really not all that good.  Far better than anything we have, but not better than JJ.  Probably not better than Jones, Gabbert, or Gilbert either.

This and Gregory last year show just how bad our QB situation is.  Masoli's the final stop gap before we roll the dice on the Sams kid (our only and best hope)

Only difference this time is Masoli isn't a worthless piece of crap.

Not on the field anyway...

Maybe not the "best" but he would fit perfectly.  He can run, would free up Thomas, has Smith, Quarles and Harper as targets.  Our offense would go from about 10-8 in the Big12 to  4-2.

He'd be great in our offense.  He doesn't throw all that well, but he runs very well and and throws pretty well on the run.  Wish like hell we could get him for a couple years, he would be very dynamic once he got the offense down well.

Can't picture this headline w/ Bill Stewart as WVU's coach:

HOLY MOLY, STEWART BAGS MASOLI!

Gotta be down to K-State and Ole Miss. Snyder knows adding Masoli is his only hope of not going 5-7. Snyder will be so desperate he'll offer to take out a life insurance policy in his name. The fact that Snyder screwed Coffman last year and turned the team over to Gregory also has to work in K-State's favor. Snyder would be willing to guarantee the starting job to Masoli and has no problem telling the media that it's a "four-man race."

Snyder: "Klein is really impressing me."
Snyder: "Coffman looks good, he's really pushing the other youngsters."  :gocho:
Snyder: "Lamur is progressing."  ;)

And Masoli?

"He doesn't even know the playbook yet. These things take time."  :blank:

When it comes to talking the Right Reverend Houston Nutt has, will and will always blow away Old Balls.  Recruiting is a talking/selling business, which is why we will perpetually suck at it until we have at least 3 assistants that are coked out of their minds 24/7/365 back on the staff.  The only thing that will prevent the Right Reverand Nutt from getting this kid is numbers.   But right now some 3rd string 84th scholarship tailback is locking himself in his room and has decided to opt out of "going out with the guys" for the next 3 weeks.

The shirt tucks hate the message, they hate the messenger . . .. but it has to be said today, tomorrow and twice on Sunday.

K-State, Jeremiah Masoli a good fit
By: Curtis Kitchen, 810whb.com Senior Writer

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – While Bryce Brown’s Tennessee breakup dominates the spotlight, Kansas State fans might want to pry their eyes away from the fray just long enough to consider another name.

Jeremiah Masoli.

The former Oregon quarterback, an All-Pac-10 First Team selection in 2009 (Sporting News, Phil Steele, Rivals.com), is still mysteriously available. Okay, it isn’t such a mystery why the 5’11, 220-lb. QB is still without a school since a repeat criminal record will do that for a guy. But, he won’t be available for long; guys with his talent and on-field track record never are,* and it makes sense from several perspectives for K-State to take a look.

*Yes, that statement opens a whole other discussion on the life perks afforded athletically talented individuals. I’m not going down that road today or maybe ever. That’s just life in today’s world, folks.

K-State fans want a shot in the arm? A 100-proof shot of purple drank? How about putting that kid in control of the most offensive talent K-State has had in seven years? Quarterback issues suddenly shift from finding one to dusting off plays not used since Michael Bishop’s final season.

Recognized as the Ducks’ most outstanding player in ’09, Masoli’s elite talent is proven on a Division-I level, not high school. There are no projections to fuss over, no worries that he may not develop or that the game proves too complicated. He’s legit and would turn K-State from a curious, middle-of-the-pack team to flat dangerous.

Academically, the risk isn’t slight. It is zero. Masoli finished his undergraduate work in Eugene and would only need to enroll in a graduate program not offered at Oregon. This is a one-and-done deal.

Everything, it appears, comes back to Masoli’s wrap sheet that includes admitted armed robbery and the theft of a laptop computer from an Oregon frat house last January.

The Rebs’ Houston Nutt would love to have the QB, especially since backup QB Raymond Cotton (ironically, a former KSU recruit) announced this week he is leaving the program. However, Ole Miss administrators are meeting this week discussing potential ramifications and fallout from Masoli's addition.

There is none of that in Manhattan because while KSU Athletic Director John Currie would be kept in the loop, if Snyder wants a player of that caliber, good luck telling him no.

Masoli wants to start right away, and that door has opened for as many as three other schools, including West Virginia, UNLV and Louisiana Tech – all openly pursuing Masoli.  The sure bet is that a few more are quietly doing the same.

Masoli, his family and all others associated with him have gone silent. His father said there would be no more talk until after a new school had been selected – information to be released via press release by a Los Angeles-based public relations firm.

Finally, if Masoli was talking, it would be interesting to know how familiar he is with K-State already. Masoli was a teammate and friend with Chris Harper, and the two worked together as Harper spent time floating between wide receiver and quarterback.

The bottom line: Masoli is available immediately. At KSU, he would start immediately. The risk on the field and academically is virtually nonexistent and extends for a maximum of four or five months or 12-14 games.

If given the opportunity, and I’d like to think he knows how to get one if he wants, it is certainly a risk LHC Bill Snyder should take.

This Masoli deal just got me thinking back on when OB swung and missed on every single QB recruit the year we won the Big XII Title and went to a BCS bowl game and we went head to head and lost to Houston Nutt for Robert Johnson even though they already had signed two other QB’s in the class and we all knew he was going to be converted to a wide receiver.

OB went after 4 of the top 10 dual threat QB’s in the country and of course air balled all of them.  The answer, Dylan Meier.  Yep, dudes, this was truly the end of the decade of the DOD.

Yeah cause that doesn't describe a heisman winning quarterback...

Ex-Oregon QB Masoli one step closer to joining Ole Miss, or is he?

Wednesday it was reported the Rebels head coach Houston Nutt had received permission from the Mississippi administration to start working out the logistics to get Masoli to the Oxford campus.

“We’re just looking into the entire situation, from the background, to his (academic) transcripts, to his graduation (from Oregon) to graduate school—the whole bit,” Nutt told the Eugene (Ore.) Register-Guard. “We’ve made no determination.”

Nutt said that the whole thing will be resolved soon.

“Time is a factor,” Nutt told the paper.

Apparently he wasn’t kidding when he said it will be resolved soon.

Rivals.com is reporting that a source within the program has confirmed that Masoli has been admitted to graduate school at Ole Miss.

The NCAA still has to approve the transfer.

Masoli received his undergraduate degree this summer from Oregon and could only transfer without sitting out a year if he could find a graduate program that is not offered by the Ducks.

So it’s only a matter of time before Masoli is a Rebel right?

Not so fast my friends, the Oregonian is reporting that a probation violation could hold up the whole deal.

Masoli pleaded guilty to misdemeanor burglary charge in March and received a year’s probation. A later run-in with the law concerning marijuana possession ultimately ended his career at Oregon and last week he pleaded guilty to possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and failing to stop upon exiting a driveway.

That plea could violate his parole according to Dan Koenig, Masoli’s attorney.

“There still is the potential that the district attorney could file a probation violation,” Koenig said. “We don’t know if they see these violations – not crimes – in Springfield as a probation violation.”

According to Koening, there hasn’t been any indication from the district attorney’s office on how or when it would rule.

Houston Nutt has indicated that he expects to make a decision by this weekend.

Stay tuned.

Source: QB Masoli headed to Ole Miss

ESPN.com news services

Former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli is expected to be admitted to one of three graduate programs at the University of Mississippi, which should make him eligible to play as early as this season, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad.

Masoli would have to walk on at Ole Miss as he would not be granted a scholarship, the source said. But Masoli, a good student, would be eligible to possibly receive a reduced tuition cost.

Masoli is expected to make a formal visit to Ole Miss as soon as this weekend, the source said.

Masoli had expressed late interest in programs like Kansas State and West Virginia, two other sources told Schad.

According to The Clarion-Ledger, school officials, including coach Houston Nutt and athletic director Pete Boone, met Tuesday to discuss Masoli's troubled background, which led to his dismissal from the Oregon team in June.

Ole Miss assistant athletic director for compliance David Wells told The Clarion-Ledger that the university would have to ask the NCAA to waive a one-year residency requirement, which can be granted if the athlete enrolls in a graduate program that is not offered at Oregon.

A week ago Nutt said the Rebels had no interest in pursuing Masoli, who was kicked off Oregon's team after two run-ins with the law, including a second-degree burglary charge.

That stance may have changed after backup Raymond Cotton left the team this past Saturday. The Rebels are down to just two scholarship quarterbacks after Cotton was granted his release and plans to transfer after apparently convincing himself that he wasn't going to get much of a chance to play behind Nathan Stanley.

Nutt has been down this road before. He took a chance on former Florida safety Jamar Hornsby last year, and it blew up in the Rebels' faces.

Hornsby was booted from the Gators' team after being charged with the fraudulent use of a dead Florida student's credit card. She was killed in a motorcycle accident and just happened to be the girlfriend of Hornsby's then-teammate, Joe Haden.

The Rebels took a chance and signed the troubled Hornsby after a stopover at junior college, and he was in trouble again not even a month later. He was indicted on a felony assault charge, and Nutt had no choice but to dismiss him from the team.

In Nutt's defense, he's not the first coach, nor will he be the last coach, to take a chance on a talented player with a troubled past.

But to do it two years in a row is tempting fate.

Nutt has to have another quarterback. The Rebels' backup right now is junior college transfer Randall Mackey, who wasn't in Oxford for spring practice and was probably going to factor in as a specialty player this season.

An injury to Stanley could be disastrous, which is why Nutt is exploring every avenue.

So is this an Ivy League approach? My bet is in about 3 years the NCAA investigates Ole Miss for paying players-specifically Masoli- and they chalk it up to an error in the decimal place of his academic scholarship. That should give him enough extra cash to pay for court (or the judge to let him off the hook for his probation violation)

If we can't close on Masoli I think this gives Currie enough leverage to initiate operation J Rake on Bill.

You guys prolly didn't know this, but I shazbot! around a bunch on this board.  It's true.  However, I am as serious as Al Quida when I say we are 3 games better with Masoli this year....I am on the verge of another OB meltdown.

I agree, sort of. I'd give K-State a solid 7-5 w/ Masoli.

All kind of laws out there that nobody knows about.  How bouts you can't have 4 people in the front seat of a pickup. You have to signal your intention to turn no later than 100 feet from the turn. You don't have to have a windshield, but you do have to have windshield wipers. In most cities it's illegal to kill, injure, harass or molest a squirrel. You have to have a driver's side mirror. All kinds of screwy stuff.

Read the SI.com account of Jeremiah Masoli. Dude's got more baggage than Miley Cyrus for a Europe summer tour lol. No thanks.

If he sat down, came out and showed how he's grown up since all of this stuff, maybe. I'm unimpressed with him right now tho.

Why do they all seem to hate ksu sports so much? Masoli would be the best ksu fball news in the last year and they say no thanks. eff man. Hard to win when even the people who get paid to pump sunshine want you to lose.

The dude has got a formula that works.

If I appreciate one thing about FITZ is that he may extremely lazy and complacent but he is an absolute master of managing expectations.

His ability to transform GP from a ksu sports content first platform into an Angie'slist/Social networking site for retards and STILL manages to actually manipulate a subscription base into falsely believing they are paying for a premium product is pretty amazing really.

Oh and a note to Joe Gordon and Coach Cosh.

Maybe if you guys didn't suck so hard at recruiting, particularly QB's (I'll defer some blame on that to Snyder) maybe you wouldn't have the opportunity to lose a desperate kid to a football program who may not even have a scholarship to give him.

That's not true.  Our QB's have been coached up a ton.  In recent history with Bill, they have begun with poop, and Bill turns them into solidly below average QB's.  Take AE for example, he didn't improve at all at Wisconsin.  Gregory got better as the season went along last year, but that might have been that this detached shoulder was getting better, IDK.

Ell was a mess as a Soph, and he improved.  Chad May and Kav both improved.  Jeff Schwinn not so much.

I think we get Masoli.

I think this visit to Ole Miss is to make sure that he sees everything and weighs all options, I would if I were him....I mean this is his second time to go through recruiting and he MUST get it right.  I am basing my opinion on two things.

First, Kitchen's tweet about our "pitch" to him makes sense.

Second, and most importantly, I believe the Wabash post about Colbert telling the guy that we are getting Masoli, and I believe that Colbert is blindly arrogant enough to boast about this on the golf course (I love Colbert, btw).

Jeff Fitzgerald, for one.  We also lost Josh Moore.  We were supposed to replace Fitz with Adam Davis but his back is broken.

.

I think defense is going to be a giant question mark, fitzgerald and moore are going to hurt not having around. Fitzgerald was by far the best pass rusher we had and we still didn't have a pass rush to speak of. But the backers and secondary are way more of a concern in my book, I thnik the d is going to be pretty terrible actually.

Without Masoli, we should have a good shot at beating:
UCLA
Missouri State
UCF
North Texas
KU
Baylor
Oklahoma State
Iowa State
Colorado

With Masoli, I don't think I can add anyone to the list. We won't beat all of these teams, and Masoli does make us better, but I see us as a 6-7 win team without him and a 7-8 win team with him.

i think the offense will be productive without Massoli (with Massoli the O would be one of the tops in the league), a steady diet of DT with a mix of play action, screen game, and short yardage option.  Klein is big and strong and will be a serviceable game manager also his experience at WR and QB abilities of DT, Harper, and Brod Smith allow for numerous wildcat opportunities.

on defense you lose fitzgerald but get harold and kadero back and supplement with a number of juco athletes.  as a result we should be deeper and more effective up front (i.e. no more using 4th string QB's to try to generate a pass rush).  LB's are a question mark Hrebec should be good and hopefully Marley, Bumpas, Slaughter, Vulture, or Berard will develop to provide quality play and depth.  Also Jerrell Childs and Tre Walker are wildcards at the LB position who could have significant impacts.  in the secondary the starters should be legit, with our safeties (if healthy) being one of the better tandems in the league.  depth will be an issue imo in the secondary so staying healthy will be a key (ps i think Ty Zimmerman could have a breakout year if the opportunity exists).  speaking with coach burns leads me to believe we will play a lot of hard press and use the front 7 to generate pressure, so our ability to generate a pass rush may decide the fate of our secondary play

On the ESPN Blog.  The Ole Miss fans that posted below this seem to think Stanley will beat him out for the quarterback job.  Interesting.  Go to Ole Miss and be looked down upon, come to KSU and be the man.

Jeremiah Masoli sees Ole Miss up close
July, 30, 2010 Jul 3012:07PM ETEmail Print Comments204 By Chris LowThere are sure to be plenty of Jeremiah Masoli sightings on Ole Miss' campus these next couple of days.

He flew in Friday morning and is making the rounds, which should be one of the final pieces of the puzzle to get him in school and on the field this fall for the Rebels.

There's only a slight chance this thing could fall through, that the administration at Ole Miss could get cold feet at the last minute. But that's probably not going to happen unless Masoli has a bad visit.

Everybody involved knows the stakes. If Masoli gets in even a trace of trouble, Ole Miss is going to look foolish for taking him, especially after what happened with Jamar Hornsby last year.

Masoli certainly isn't going into this thing blind. After all, his family has hired a top Los Angeles public relations firm, Sitrick And Company, to help smooth out Masoli's image during this process. He even has his own web page, which includes an apology by Masoli for his past run-ins with the law and points out errors that have been made about him in the media.

Coaches take chances on players all the time. If Masoli stays out of trouble and helps the Rebels win a few more games, then the gamble's worth it. Plus, it gives him a chance to repair his image.

If there are further issues, then a fair question to ask is: What's it going to take for the Rebels to stay away from troubled kids?

In this case, Houston Nutt has to have another quarterback. The Ole Miss staff simply doesn't think incoming junior college newcomer Randall Mackey is ready to be an every-down quarterback. That leaves one guy -- Nathan Stanley.

Stanley had a solid spring, and the players like him. Rest assured that if the Rebels do indeed take Masoli that he's going to have to earn his way. Nutt's been around this game long enough that he's not just going to automatically turn over the keys to the Ole Miss offense to Masoli.

The guess here is that Stanley is the Rebels' starter in the opener against Jacksonville State and it evolves from there. The good news is that the schedule is probably going to allow for some experimenting. The Rebels will be favorites in their first five games, and four of those are at home.

For crap's sake.  Last season we went 6-6 and played for a north title with an injured qb and a young ol.  Colin Klein has to be better than Gregory.  This offense has the potential to be great w/out Masoli.  Love to have the kid but we'll be fine.  Some people are bitchin about a 7-5 season and a bowl game???  Are you kidding me.  Prince took us to the depths of college football.  We were handing off to Logan Dold with hopes of 260 lb o-lineman blocking for him.  Now our line is 315 average across the front, the best running back in the league, and an improved wr core.  All the defense has to do is be average and we go 7-5.    Not wanting a player doesn't make you anymore k-state than the next guy.  We do however have fans of ksu football, ku basketball, and wsu baseball lurking on these boards. While I agree that with or without Masoli that the offense could be pretty good, in fact, it might be pretty dog gone good simply because I think we have a decent to good Oline and a very good Oline coach . . . but I see nothing but a 50-75th ranked total defense at best, and maybe a 40th-60th scoring defense if OB controls the ball on offense.

Bottom line: He didn't have any fellow American Samoans to hang around with in California and the next best thing were black people and probably got mixed up in the wrong crowd. Apparently you are a saint.

Regarding the last two, they are minor therefore they don't count.

During the rambling response to this Emaw elite regarding recruiting FITZ goes on to say, "Rivals gets mad at me because we don't really cover recruiting very much.  I don't really believe in stars and rankings".  Actually said that.  "Rivals gets mad at me"

I wonder if Rivals would like goEMAW.com.  :dunno:

I think Houston Nutt must actually encourage this kind of thing.  They volume and type of info they are getting from Ole Miss is amazing.....the media is finding out that he applied, and was admitted, and that a visit was scheduled...

Although, this could be the PR firm letting this info out, but to what end?  To make other schools more interested?  I don't know.  I just know that at KSU leaks of this quality don't happen too frequently.

Probably has something to do with Ole Miss reporters doing their job, and K-State reporters being too busy making excuses as to why they aren't doing their jobs.

Sorry guys, Masoli never visited.  You really think our K-State insiders would be wasting their time last week with this garbage if a potential heisman candidate looking to transfer was in town last week?  No fracking way.

Well, some things just make them "sick and tired" and they really don't like covering recruiting because they just don't believe in all of those stars and things.   So always better to be Johnny on the spot with a bunch of stories that you find in 26 other media outlets than actually focus on getting the scoop of what's actually going on at Kansas State.   Oh wait, it's just so hard getting information at Kansas State.   Why I bet Mack Brown just calls up OrangeBloods and invites them over to pick up copies of the Texas Playbook and to sit on game planning sessions, and no doubt Orangebloods has a seat on all relevant boards and committees at Texas.

Sorry it isn't 1 A.M. for your reply.

We heard the same rumors that he was there. Now ... getting confirmation on that is tough. Nobody seems to know for sure and his "PR firm" in California isn't answering many questions.

I don't think it is a done deal to Ole Miss, and I'm not sure it ever was.

Should make the next week interesting though.

You can count on the fact that if we do learn something we'll share it here first.

Have you (as a company) made the decision that you will not be the first to post rumors on this forum? Seems like it's a fairly common occurance for someone to post about something (or a story break) and one of the staff members to post something to the effect of "yeah, we heard that". I'm not going through every thread, so maybe you or someone else on the staff had posted before that you'd heard Masoli visited last week, but this is the first time I've read it.

This might be read as critical, but it's not the way it's intended. I seem to remember "this is what we're hearing" kind of posts from the gpc staff. Has the membership of this forum ruined that (as I assume we did for Fitz posting his opinion on KSU related topics, which rarely happens here anymore)? I understand some of this stuff you don't post because you don't want to burn sources, but it seems like little/no "rumor" or opinion posted by the people who seem to be in a better position to do so then most. This subject specifically would seem like something that should have come from the staff if it was heard (and again I appoligize if it was). "Hey guys, can't confirm this at all, but we've heard that Masoli visited KSU."

This may not matter to anyone but today i talked to a relative who has been coaching college football for 28 years and is currently an assistant at a pretty good D-1 school.  I asked him what he thought about the whole Masoli situation.  He laughed and said that if that kid ends up playing at Ole Miss there is something horribly wrong.  Said the NCAA will start to sniff around.  All I will say is that he is a pretty good recruiter and knows the ends and outs.  Said it struck him as being odd that Ole Miss who will be a door mat would get a player like Masoli walk on.  Didn't go into details.  Thought that was interesting.  Think what you want on that tidbit.

Brother has had major depression for the last 3 years and our family has been going through living hell.

He went to K-State for a semester and dropped out in February. Has been home for 3 years doing nothing, can't even get excited about K-State sports in which we went to every bowl game when we were kids.

He's 22 now and has talent and would never hurt anybody in his normal self.

So here's the plan if he starts feeling better. The kid needs to start doing something. My parents are getting way too stressed out and my mom frickin lives for K-State sports.

Think he should walk on this year if possible. He played quarterback in high school and understands the game better than anyone I probably know. He's 6'1 weighs about 210 right now. Only weighed 165 in high school. We've gotta make this work.  :ksu:

Dudes...here's the story. All my life growing up I never really had a passion for K-State football when we went to bowl games. I do have that passion for K-State basketball now.

My brother did though and so did my mom and dad.

I feel like HE has sent Masoli to K-State because he knows it's the best thing. I've never felt so sure about stuff in my life.

Read these lyrics and it pretty much explains what I've been going through the last two years: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/dixiechicks/thelongwayaround.html (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/dixiechicks/thelongwayaround.html)

To explain further...a couple years ago I really liked a girl in high school and had a great summer with her but she never took it to the next level. Then she left for Arkansas with her family and got knocked up by some loser.

Couple weeks ago I got wisdom teeth taken out and this past Monday I had a feast with two good neighbors/friends whose daughter passed away the same exact time my brother was born. We had dinner at a mexican restaurant on July 26th, the feast date for my name, Seth. Grandpa named me Seth and he died about the same time I was born of cancer.

Sorry I just have to get this off my chest. Everyone has kept their emotions bottled up during my brother's schizophrenia. But I feel hope now.

No crap my parents think I'm frickin paranoid schizo like my brother now. But I'm not, I've got a girl lined up for me when I get back to Hutch. This has all been spiritual.

Go to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism)

Notice how my first name is linked with this deal. This whole time my parents have thought medication would heal my brother.

It makes sense because I didn't start talking til I was 3 and my parents thought they had me by accident.

Seth was the 3rd son of Adam and Eve.

Cain slayed Abel or the other way around.

My sister was IN Manhattan the same time my brother was. Her eating disorder and stealing is what hurt my brother.

She has a job in GB and a boyfriend now. And is better.

Feel like this is my chance to get my brother right.

OB can't even land a guy that Ole Miss doesn't really need.

Why can't Harper start? since we have so many other quality wr's.

Nutt, who cannot talk about recruiting Masoli under NCAA rules until the player is at camp,

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5428720

Quote
Nutt said Sunday that Masoli initially made contact with Ole Miss when Cotton was still on the roster. With three scholarship quarterbacks in hand, Nutt told Masoli the Rebels didn't have room for another one. When Cotton left, Nutt reconsidered the possibility. Nutt spoke extensively with Masoli and his mother, but Nutt said he and Ole Miss administrators needed to meet Masoli in person before he could offer a place on the team. Nutt said Masoli fit in well with Rebels players and provided satisfactory answers to coaches and administrators. Nutt said Masoli also understands he can't make anymore mistakes off the field. "I felt like he needed us a whole lot more than we needed him," Nutt said. "He'll be under the highest of scrutiny."

Sounds like he was going to go to Ole Miss, regardless.  Dude obviously really wants to be there if he's paying his own way and may not even be the starter.  Prob has a baby with some chick there or something.

I have a feeling that the whole "won't even be a starter at Ole Miss"  is just a cover for all of the under the table $$ being funneled to Masoli.   It will be interesting to see if he indeed is not even a starter by seasons end.

You gotta think that Ole Miss would much rather have Stanley take charge and win the competition.  You're not exactly helping the team to have a guy come in and start for just one year.  But, they have a nice back-up plan in Masoli.  I expect him to come in as relief for an ineffective starter and maybe even start a game here or there, but the job with ultimately be Stanley's.

I don't think he's a real dumb dude, he just had to find a grad program that Oregon doesn't have.  Which seems kinda weird, I would assume that schools in the NW would be downs with parks and recreation.

For those who believe in the KITN KState Theory (I don't really so need some knowledge): Thus far we've dodged a couple potential KITNs - the incessant rumors spurred on many bracing for KITN of Bryce staying at Tenn, but then Bryce came home. Masoli almost became a Cat, which would have been a major  :pbj: moment only to then be a giant KITN when denied by NCAA a week before first game. But instead he brought the bad pub to Ol Miss and now won't even play for him this year when they desperately need him.

Does this mean we are going to have a magical year or only that the KITN is an absolute whose arrival is inevitable and only thus far still undetermined?

The fact that we haven't been KITN is just setting us up for being KITN later.

Oh, it's coming....especially with hilariously bad stuff happening to others in the area.  We got a doozy on the way.

Would have been great having him get cleared less than 24 hrs before the season opener then watching an able QB execute our offense while pounding UCLA.

Folk songs are written about crap like this.

Country songs are written about how we really ended up on this.
