Yeah.
Interestingly Pullen and Clemente have already led the Cats to be ranked longer and higher than they were in the Popgun era. Now we'll have to see if they can match the Regional Final Mike and Chuckie led us to (in a smaller NCAA field).

yes. I'm for reals. hate those f*ckers. I mean, if ku's or ut's beat writer or fans wants to run sh*t then fine, but who the f*ck is MU? i mean, what the f*ck has MU ever done? They have zero excuse for their historical level of mediocrity, yet their fan base as a whole just wants to run sh*t like they've actually done something. I can see why DeArmond has/had depression issues, I'd want to kill myself too if I look in the mirror every day and see that lump of sh*t on my neck and on top of that be a MU fan.

This. There are plenty of MU fans in the KC area that can sour you on that school pretty quickly.

I don't understand. I have friends that go to KU that are great people. Love the fanbase there. I know the Phog is no OOD but they do what they can there. Great up and coming school. Hopefully eventually they can reach the success that Kansas State has reached in athletics and academics. They're on their way. I think Saturday's win should really help them. Just hope they don't catch up to us in ELITE-ness. :ohno: (I know, I know, won't ever happen)
KU, I'm always rooting you on! A true underdog story!

Yeah, I mean they're definitely getting better in bball. Thought they might in football but then they fired LHC Bill Snyder 2.0. Heard that Lawrence recently created laws to get all of the homeless people out of their city by cutting funding for shelters and whatnot so hopefully it will clean up the city and make it desirable for good coaches/players to actually want to live there but it might be too little too late. Too bad if true.

yeah, friend said that they are moving them out to k-10 in the middle of nowhere which is kinda weird cause you'd think that homeless people would benefit from being w/in walking distance to social services and stuff. friend just said that people who wanted to go eat and drink on mass were "sick of having to look at them."

Do you blame Frank? Grudes is going to have to work on his ball handling starting in the spring. Right now he is incapable with the ball in his hands and he isn't shooting. At this level and in Franks offense you have to have 2 ball handlers on the court. This is the value of DenClem he keeps the offense running and doesn't turm it over. If there is going to be an issue next year it is a second reliable ball handler and distributor. I love Rodney's game but he is a BIG liability handling the ball right now. However, I do think his issues are largely mental and not physical. We shall see.

Denny Clemente couldn't carry Mike Evans or Chuckie Williams' piss bucket.
There was no 3 point line back then, so there was no "spotting up" on the line, they just bombed from 2 to 3 feet behind where the line is all the time.
DeArmond is a typical mu douche.
-
Not surprising, DeArmond completely missed the point on my comment and/or my post on the history of the OOD (it looks like he did come here to read it though).
A History?
Submitted by Mike DeArmond on Sun, 01/31/2010 - 22:24.
Because Doug Gottlieb mentioned it?
Be that as it may, no matter who came up with the Octagon of Doom, I don't see a history of winning to support it.
I've know a select group of people that believe Mizzou Arena should be named The House That Norm Stewart Built.
And I know another select group of people that want to call Mizzou Arena "The Jungle."
If you want to call Bramlage Coliseum "The Octagon of Doom," you go right ahead.
If enough of you do it, the nickname will stick.
Sort of like Kansas vs Missouri being the Border War, no matter how much the politically correct naybobs want to try to have everybody call it the Border Showdown.
At least Don Fambrough and I agree on something.

yeah, no i don't blame martin. i just see a lot of people assuming that mcgruder's minutes are going to go way up next year with clemente gone. and for exactly the reason you point out, i'm just not very convinced it's going to happen.
it seems more likely that he's still going to be basically a backup 3. fortunately for him, sutton gets in foul trouble a lot.

Gruds needs develop a headfake put it on the ground game.

I'd prefer Russell get his sh*t together defensively and get more of Clemente's minutes than McGruder.
-
I'd prefer Russell get his sh*t together defensively and get more of Clemente's minutes than McGruder.
why? mcgruder's shown a hell of a lot more this season than russell has.
-
I'm with Rusty here. I think Irving/Russell will be the ones to take on Denis spot, but to a lessor extent. And Frank will find a way to get McGruder and Sutton minutes, both at 20+ per game. McGruder just provides too much scoring and has improved a ton defensively. But playing the 2 would be tough for him, he's much more like Sutton as a player, except he has a jump shot. But he cleans up a lot of trash as well.
-
Russ is Stew II. I'd take it if Sprads is a 3 point shooting savant.
-
I'd prefer Russell get his sh*t together defensively and get more of Clemente's minutes than McGruder.

I like having two players that can handle the ball and start a fast break. I don't think McGrud's is significantly more skilled offensively - he's just gotten a lot more opportunity (because of his defense/position).
-
I'd prefer Russell get his sh*t together defensively and get more of Clemente's minutes than McGruder.
yes. Mcgruder and Sutton can fight it out for minutes, both provide unique things the other can't so the type of game/opponent/fouls will drive who gets more minutes. But Russell has to get it together because he looks like he could provide some balance between the guards. If Russell can do it, then when Irving subs for Jake there won't be this incredible drop off.
-

you must have seen a different russell than i have. i'm not saying he doesn't have some ability, but i am saying that if he'd been given mcgruder's minutes, he'd have played like complete crap.
-
McGruder and Sutton camparos are hilarious and bad, like an episode of Friends if they played basketball.

I'm not suggesting he gets McGruder's minutes, I'm suggesting he gets Clemente's next year. Based on McGruder's minutes, I think he would look like sh*t, also, if he was asked to handle the ball for a significant amount of time.
I think Russell would be fine if he played defense. But he's barely played 100 minutes over 20 games. Hard to be definitive based on that.

The comparison comes from both playing SF. Not that they are similar in skill sets, abilities, etc.

no one is talking about him getting clemente's minutes next year. or at least no one has since the first three posts on the topic of mcgruder's minutes next year, when i set that up as a strawman. certainly no one has ever suggested that mcgruder be given clemente's role.
and you did suggest that russell would perform well (at least offensively) if given mcgruder's minutes. you suggest it here:
I don't think McGrud's is significantly more skilled offensively - he's just gotten a lot more opportunity (because of his defense/position).
while russell doesn't have much of sample size, in the minutes he has gotten, he's shown absolutely nothing to suggest that he'd be anything other than horrible with more minutes. he's been spectacularly unproductive, and he hasn't looked good while doing so.

Sys,
What are you hoping for Re: backcourt next year? Should we pin our hopes on Sprads coming in and/or Russell pulling his head out? Seems to me right now we've got Irving starting at the point, Pullen at the 2, then a whole lot of confusion when the rotations kick in. I'd be okay with McGruds playing alongside whoever emerges as the best ball handler (prolly Pullen), since the sacrifice of bringing in a poor ball handler is offset some by having the elite ballhandler in there. Plus, as mentioned before, McGruds is huge just about everywhere else, so even if he kills you with the odd turnover or 4, you still get something out of him.
1: Irving, Pullen, Russell
2: Pullen, McGruder, Sprads
:dunno:
-
irving and/or a juco recruit would have to be the favorite. spradling and russell, assuming he is still here, will certainly get chances to show what they can do, but irving is in the driver's seat unless a solid juco is brought in.
it'd be fantastic if mcgruder improved his handles enough to get 10-15 minutes as a noncombo 2, moving pullen to a noncombo 1. but unlikely.
-

this is my hope and expectation. irvy is too small for the new breed KSU combo. i think Jake and McGrudsies could share the combo 1 and 2 pretty well.

2k11 get Russell good enough to get out there with McGruds and we will be very big on the perimeter.

He's right. We haven't really earned it, but that is part of the beauty of the OOD. We, or I should say, some around here have been calling it the OOD since before we were good at all.

I really can't wait until my life is so depressing that I don't give a eff about my personal appearance like DeArmond. Hopefully it doesn't cheer me up to the point that I start caring again. Imagine the extra time you would have.

We should be so lucky as to have a DeArmond covering us :frown:
Our overall sports columnist situation took a mortal blow when Whitlock left. I think Mellinger is trying to be interesting. But when Bob Lutz is the edgiest guy on the block, that's a problem. So I'm rooting for DeArmond. I want more drunken "Michael Beeeeeeeeasly" vlogs and whatnot. 99% of our current beat writers are complete vegetable lasagna.

He gets paid absolute jack crap...sames reason anyone works for the Star. They will work for minimum wage and can't get a job anywhere else.
