special teams....yikes
-
If this was a video game roster, I'd probably run like a 4-2-5 w/ Daquan and Sullivan as the LB's, and use Walker as my controlled LB/S hybrid and just blitz him every time.

admittedly i do not know crap about Jordan Mittie but it cannot be a good sign that he showed up and is immediately on the two deep
-
Is it normal for a college football team to carry 6 kickers?

From his bio:
AT TEXAS STATE: Played two seasons at defensive tackle for the Bobcats under head coach Everett Withers... Totaled 83 tackles, including 8.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks over his two seasons in San Marcos... Also tallied four breakups and a forced fumble over those two seasons... Earned Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt honors as a sophomore in 2017 when he finished sixth on the team with 52 tackles... Also ranked fourth on the squad with 5.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks as a sophomore...Redshirted the 2015 season.
Not sure if that is good?

Too many biblical names, not enough apostrophe names, imho.

4-6, yes
-
Most don’t have scholarships, right, @MakeItRain?
-
Correct
-
if we start having injuries on defense we are going to go 5-7
-
How much do you think the new redshirt rules will come into play this season? I would think if someone has a lingering injury here or there we might have a game we can slip a true freshman into. Or if we are absolutely destroying a team we can rest our battering rams (QBs, RBs, etc)
For those not caught up, the new rule says you can play in four games and still get a redshirt. (At least that is my understanding)
-
the first 4 games, no?
-
the first 4 games, no?
From an article on SB Nation:
Division I football players are now allowed to play in up to four games in a season while keeping a redshirt and not losing a year of eligibility. The NCAA previously considered a redshirt burned if a player took the field for a single play of live action in any game.

Any 4 games from my understanding.
-
that's kinda crazy
-
of our true freshmen, i predict that only lance robinson will see the field.
-
I'd love to see the qb Holcomb in mop up duty a few times.

Hunter Hall is getting all of those snaps.

which is dumb, we wouldn't even let that kid pass the ball once last year.
-
They've been raving about Holcomb in practice, as saying he'll be the next Klein.

I wouldn't mind seeing Wayne Jones on the field too.

Not letting the fourth string QB pass the ball on the road in the closing minutes of a game we were winning by 5 points, is not a sound argument that the same player can't be the third string quarterback a year later.
I bet Holcomb gets some snaps anyway, he's just not starting the season as the third string QB.

I feel like the Cats have good depth behind him, but I do feel bad for the guy.
-
Awful
-
That is brutal for him :frown:
-
That is terrible. Poor kid

Seems like a great kid too. My heart goes out to him.

I guess what stood out to me was Beebe at guard and Carver Willis at tackle. Did Beebe play guard last year or was he at tackle the entire year? I understand he'll play guard at the next level, but I guess I expected him to start at tackle for the Cats. I was also kind of surprised to see Leingang at tackle, too.
-
Yes he played some guard last year, more the year before.
Avery is already the backup
Loving seeing the true freshmen on the two deep
-
Copper started all 14 games at LG last year. Leingang played LT when KT was dinged up during the season. 2nd string across the safeties is kind of shocking.
-
Secondary going to have to do a lot of growing up. Glad we have Savage back, and I like Payne and hopefully Sigle does well but it just so young.
It's also crazy (and I get it's to counter Big 12 offenses) how close in size the secondary is to LBs these days, will be good for runs vs coverage I suppose.
-
188 lbs? Someone get that kid a big-assed biscuit.
Also, Savage and Payne. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better name combo for two hard-hitting safeties.
-
Defense is really young, I think that's a good thing.
-
I like the starters at Safety, but really concerned about the depth. We need a blow-out on Saturday to get these guys some experience.
