boom, roasted.
-
I like them...just not enough to eat them separately.
-
I like them but only a few spoon fulls. never eat my whole portion.
-
Put some green food coloring in them once and sat down in front of some people to see what their reaction would be. When they asked what the hell I was eating, I calmly told them "green beans."
-
a quick update- just finished a double helping of refried beans, incredible flavor- very delicious and flavorful. they had some melted montery jack cheese on top.
why? why not i always say.
anyone else have any refried bean updates?
-
They are pretty good, I guess.
-
I like when they come out of a can and they still look like the can. Sometimes I just take a big bite out of the side of the bean can.
-
Made right they are fab. Bacon grease added is a must.
-
I like them. are they actually fried? seems weird.
-
i've never taken a bite out of the bean can, i generally don't eat a lot of canned refried beans.
ecn is right. make bacon. discard some, leave some in pan but chopped up. put pinto beans into pan with bacon grease. mash them with spatula. profit.

this sounds delicious.
OT. anyone here work/worked at Coco Bolos? How do you make the cowboy beans? similar to clams' recipe just not mashed?
-
I'm with Sys, pretty meh about them. But, to go along with the earlier theme re: breakfast- they do go surprisingly well with eggs. :lick:

frijoles/soupy beans
-
I do love me some refried beans as well :lick:
Question for pissclams out of pure curiosity: Do you like black beans and/or pinto beans as much as you do the refried variety? Are you simply a "bean type of guy" or is it pretty much just refried beans for pissclams?
Because for me, it's refried beans or nothing. Black beans are fine on Chipotle but otherwise are very boring and gross. Pinto beans=yuck

pinto beans are refried beans, just not mashed up and cooked.
i hate black beans, they're disgusting. also hate lima beans and fava beans. not a huge fan of black eyed peas but will eat if prepared correctly. never had soybeans.
i don't mind kidney beans and navy beans, or garbanzo beans (hummus).
-
I like dark red kidney beans
-
I like refried beans cold sometimes. Right out of the fridge.
-
They are terrible
-
i love beans. Sometimes for lunch I will just eat a can of beans heated up with chili chowder and salsa. Good for purifying the body as well.

Oh man, I LOVE hummus. Thanks for reminding me. I think I'll have some.
-
Hummus is fantastic. Love it when the pita is grilled and has some char going on. Also great with hummus- cucumber and bell peppers. Leave the filfy ass olive out of my hummus, please! (Olive oil is cool though.)
-
edamame is great but most sodiumites may not agree
-
Grilled chicken (marinated with crushed garlic, olive oil, lemon, cayenne, salt, pepper) with hummus and radishes, parsley, and diced tomatoes is amazing.
Also, no idea what this thread is about. Just saw "hummus" and got excited thinking about radishes.
-
I'd rather stick a radish up my ass than eat one. eff those things.

Soybeans are like steroids for cancer and moobs. Do not eat.

So you only like not love eating them?

The name is based on a mistranslation: in Mexican Spanish, the prefix re is an informal form of emphasis meaning "very" or "well", which has been confused with the English re and the most common use of the Spanish (Latin) prefix re outside Mexico, which more often indicates repetition. Thus, frijoles refritos really means "well-fried beans", not "refried beans"

Very informative. Thanks Chingon.

Great to know! I had always just assumed they were fried twice as a twice baked potato is baked twice (rebaked potato?).

Just had this tonight. Confirmed delicious.
-
butter, onion, garlic, sautee, chicken stock, favorite beans, cumin, chili chowder salt/pepper.
delicious.
-
You know who else eats just a can of beans for a meal? Old-timey, train-hopping hobos. And they're god-damned happy to have them.
-
They're also very popular with poor Egyptians. Foul mudammas = bowl of I-wish-I-could-afford-meat-or-maybe-a-McArabia.
-
update- just had another double helping of refrieds from cactus grille, KC's home to authentic mexican flavors. two thumbs up and 5 stars to the chef.
-
curveball to the op - I like them but do not love them!
