so here's yosh's very cogent point to get started.
Agreed. Right now, if Judge leaves early, we'd be looking at going into the 12 class needing to fill basically the enitre frontcourt.
so, yeah, that's the huge risk, if judge leaves as a jr. you're looking at going into 2012 with all new bigs plus jh-r. scary.
i'll take the other side of the debate, whether i believe it or not: the 2011 class is poor in bigs, and kstate isn't mentioned with any that are any good. they only have 2 left to give, and it'd be easy to fill those with fall 2011 guards. williams and southwell have decent size to give some post minutes, if necessary. the 2012 class probably has the best group of 3 bigs ks has ever produced (has ks ever had 3 high major bigs come out in the same year?). nationwide, the 2012 class is deep with bigs too. should be much easier to sell bigs in 2012 than 2011. any 2011 big is going to come in knowing he has very little opportunity for minutes as a freshman.

Staff counting too much on Willy Cauley(sp)?
Problem with waiting is: 1. obviously getting surprised if someone leaves early, and 2. bringing in new guys that will have to contribute right away and them sucking.

I say get the best Juco big available in the fall.

that adds to the already giant 2013 class. currently at 6, would put it at 7 with a juco. a transfer might work better.
i'd love a class with williams, 2 good guards in the fall and a transfer big in the spring.
-
asprilla?
asprilla-perea. did you know there's an elite 2012 colombian big whose first last name is perea?

2013 really needs to be GRCOAT II.

Joe Leonard?

Too bad Sprilla burned his redshirt. All appearances are that we are not taking a big this fall, but it seems foolish to me. The really odd part is that the staff, historically, seems to prioritize elite bigs when recruiting while they will settle for second and third tier recruits for the backcourt. :dunno:

Bump
11-12 roster as it looks now:
PG: Myles, Irving :barf:
SG: Russell, Spradling :blank:
SF: McGruder, Southwell, Williams, Lawrence <<---3 sophs
PF: Samuels, Judge
C: Aprilla, J-Hen
One scholly left for fall.
-
Frank doesn't use a traditional PG-SG set-up, Yosh. I wouldn't get too hung up on it.

he read my "pure point" post on ksufans. It's pretty much been his guidepost throughout his career.

gotta get a pg. i don't care if you don't have a single big with experience in '12, you gotta get a pg that can play.

Juevol Myles can play :crossfingers:

Gotta get either Seag or Boat at this point. We have no shot at Quinn and Angel sounds like he may be garbage.

Two days ago, they weren't looking at bigs. Yesterday, the edict was a guard and a big.
Carry on...

does this mean they will oversign? :excited:
but why a last second change?

Most likely because I bumped this thread. Indisputable proof that the staff reads this board. :users:

sudden, overly optimistic thought: did they decide to take a 2011 big because they decided to take a 2012 wing (graham)?
-
Are we officially oversigned?
11-12 (shortness to tallness)
Myles
Irving
Peterson
Spradling
Russell
McGruder
Lawrence
Williams
Southwell
Samuels
Gipson
Judge
Asprilla
Diaz
Henriquez
It's reasonable to think that all 15 of these guys think they will be on scholarship next year, and that we are still recruiting guards for '11

This is a good thread, and that is an interesting list. I wonder if the staff is going to let Lawrence/Peterson battle for one ship and plan on "normal" attrition/running a player off for the other.

"gut feel":
A) D-Pete still doesn't make it
&
B) At least one of the Canadian, Irving, Lawrence will get run or not get put on scholly

IRregardless of anything else happening scenario A is a definite probability. dPete & college are not meant for each other. not that there's anything wrong with that.

Both pretty safe, especially A. I will be pretty shocked if I see D-Pete suit up for a game.
-
yes, officially oversigned. i'd be amazed if they sign a guard this fall too. best we can hope for is talking one into waiting till the spring.
-
Maybe we can get Spradling on acedemic schollie. Kid's smart. Would that change much?
-
Kid's smart.
know how smart? said he wants to major in mathematics. instant coach's pet.

I base it on the fact that at my cousins graduation (Shawnee Mission South) they were all "Will is soooo smart, come get an award." Then I stood up and was all "EEEEEMMMMAAAAAWWWW" Then the ushers asked me to leave cause I was ruining graduation for people.
I was going to say CK cause I hear he's pretty smart too, but I don't want him to be worrying about grades. He's got basketball to focus on.
