Post by: Kat Kid on October 20, 2016, 08:08:05 AM
Nominations will be considered as well.

To me the key aspects of a comparison are

-on the hot seat at current school or recently was
-mediocre record with some past success
-currently at a school with worse program than Kstate, but still power 5
-retread city, no enthusiasm generated
-Kstate coaching tree through someone who doesn't care about Kstate
-inherited some success and promptly started a long nose dive

Ferentz completes a Weber cycle every 8 years or so and starts over.

We need someone who's mentor used to play at K-State, but that person gives zero shits about K-State and is incredible ugly/bad hair.  Gary Patterson have anyone like that under his tree?  Obviously Fuentes doesn't count.

This one jumps out at me.

That is good, but more like a Jim Woolridge hire because of the current NFL gig.  Also the rumor would inevitably start with thinking that we were getting Mike Macarthy for some reason.

may I please submit Kevin Wilson for consideration.

lacks any real success, but hits most all of the other points.  also part of the Stoops tree which makes him close to a Keady-like protégé, which I think has to be considered a big factor.

Dan McCarney

not a perfect fit, but was under the Fry tree.  Ended up getting canned in 2015 by UNT, so not power 5.  This task is becoming hard, yet fun, yet depressing.
Title: Re: oscar Weber : Basketball :: ___________ : Football
Post by: michigancat on October 20, 2016, 09:43:21 AM
The thing that was a big selling point for a lot of folks with oscar is he got as close to a national title as you can without winning it before starting his slide. Makes guys like Tuberville, Chizik, and Mahlzahn (if he got fired) top similarities. All Auburn guys! Also the Oregon coach.
Title: Re: oscar Weber : Basketball :: ___________ : Football
Post by: michigancat on October 20, 2016, 09:44:15 AM
Les Miles and Mark Richt would be similar, but got fired from clearly better programs unlike oscar.

true, but we heard how big dumbass Keady was involved in the deal.  we probably won't find a perfect candidate, but again, depressingly fun!

Paul Johnson is the only one of these dudes in danger of getting canned this year and he also would never ever have us in NCAA trouble. He also has an offense and work history that would give the tucks the justification of accepting the hire.

All of you guys picking dudes that have been out of work for a decade, or picking non P5 coaches, clearly don't get the game.
Title: Re: oscar Weber : Basketball :: ___________ : Football
Post by: michigancat on October 20, 2016, 01:18:58 PM
Tuberville seems like he could be in danger. Not really a P5 though.

I think the lesson is that oscar's hiring was unprecedentedly bad.

-mediocre record with some past success (Orange Bowl!)
-currently at a school with worse program than Kstate, but still power 5 (no, but last school was P5-ish)
-retread city, no enthusiasm generated (yes)
-Kstate coaching tree through someone who doesn't care about Kstate (I helped build it, I can tear it down)
-inherited some success and promptly started a long nose dive (didn't inherit success at KU, started the nose dive for sure)

That is worse than hiring oscar Weber to coach your basketball program, imo.
