Having attended freshmen orientation a couple of days ago at KSU, I thought of this thread. Seeing as how I was asked these questions a lot, I figured why not ask goEMAW.
If you are an alum you could even share your grad year.
Here it goes.
College of Engineering
Major: Computer Science
Minors: none. (yet)

dlew should add "what did you get your minor in?" to his introductory question protocol.

That's already part of the conversation tree flow chart. Question (3)(b)(i), I believe.

"Rutgers you say? interesting. what did you minor in? Japanese? really? hey did you know that popular Japanese musician nana mizuki had a single a few years ago titled "scarlet knight". pretty interesting, huh? hey can you pass me the plate of stilton gold?"

LOL completely out of order, Ofc. D.
First it would be:
Where did you go to school?
Then I would broach the subject of college football. If they like Rutgers football, I would rap about Greg Schiano and the 2007 season and about how I think Rutgers played the first ever college football game. Then talk about their transition to the Big 10.
If they're not into CFB or that conversation runs dry, THEN you get into majors and minors, occupation, whether they attended a public or private high school, yearly income and so on and so forth.
SMDH.

i actually knew this but skipped the schiano part of the conversation in post due to my love for brevity and to appease the short attention spans for all the yers that hang out on this BlogSpot.

I don't minor in anything, and probably would advise anyone to skip that unless it's more of a hobby interest. AFAIK, no employer GAS about minors.
Although I do kind of wish I took a few more finance/business classes knowing what I know now. But I was far from a studious person, so it took me forever to graduate and adding classes at the time was not gonna happen. Mechanical Engineer FWIW

I think most people get minors by accident. Like, "oh, I could take 1 more class and have a minor in something. Cool."
I just went ahead and got two majors. :gocho:

Computer Science is fine I guess. I still think a business degree of any kind is probably the most valuable.
