Title: It this Bill's last season?
Post by: bones129 on October 20, 2015, 12:57:55 AM
I'm tired of all the HCIW speculation, the question of whether Sean succeeds to the throne, and if Brett or Bob succeed Bill.

What I want to know is this: regardless of who Bill's successor may be, who realistically will step into this job? Who? And who will be acceptable to ADJC?

He is cold-hearted and would love to get revenge on OU for firing him

I think these are all solid reasons for Bob to come back, but my guess is he's a bit too prideful to want to follow Snyder who is practically more legend than reality at this point.

Bill's too close to 200 to leave now.

Man, I keep going back and forth on this.  I definitely think that is going to factor into this.

I look at it like a tripod.  Bill's desire to stay will hinge on three things:

1) How much he wants to stay, or what goal he has for himself (i.e. 200 wins)
2) How much his coaches want to stay, especially the old ones (Del and Hayes are both over 65)
3) How much his continued employment will either hurt or help Sean

I think if any of these things start to really get out of whack with the others, he'll step down.  I don't think Bill wants to face another significant rebuilding job, and I don't think he's going to want to hire anyone else.  I think I read somewhere that we are one of a handful of programs that hasn't had a new coach in three years or so.  I think consistency and predictability is everything to him right now, much like it is for most people his age, whether they want to admit it or not.

If Hayes and Miller elected to leave tomorrow, I think he'd promote from within, but I don't think he wants the dynamic shifted at all.  He may throw his hands up and say that he'd rather go watch little league baseball games and drink coffee with Colbert.

I have a hard time believing that Bill cares even a tiny bit about reaching 200 wins.  That just doesn't seem like his style.

How would his continued employment ever hurt Sean?

The narrative was that if Bill went out on top, he could say, "It was all Sean, so you better hire him."

If we're starting to go south, and we piddle around 5-7 wins this year and next, if he says, "It was all Sean, so you better hire him," then no one is going to want to pull that trigger.

If Bill came out at the end of this year and said that we were devastated by injury and they feel confident we'll turn it around next year, and Sean was responsible for the 11, 12, 8, and 9 win seasons, then he may feel like it's now or never if that's the card he wants to pull.

Serious question: why do people believe Bill wants Sean to coach THAT bad? My impression was that Bill said Sean would be a great coach, but he would prefer Sean not follow in his footsteps because he wants him to have a life.

Because Sean is the only person he ever says anything nice about.(other than opposing players he sends handwritten notes to)

Assuming that you're speaking to me, Bill has been very open about his desire for Sean to take over, but I've been told that Sean isn't that interested in the gig.

If Sean does want it, and what I've heard is incorrect, fine.  Then it's as simple as Bill trying to get him a job he wants.  But if it's not what he wants, why does Bill keep openly talking about it?  And why doesn't Sean shut him down?

What is maddening is this whole construct via implication that HCBS just out hours and out works everyone else.   That's a choice, as cRusty has alluded to in the past, it could be just be an inefficient use of time.   Like writing congratulatory notes to players who just beat the team that you're paid $3 million a year to coach.   That's purely a psychological thing that as some former players have alluded to is a bit self aggrandizing and pedestal placing, but also builds a perception of LHC Bill Snyder being kind of old cool and really classy.   This all builds a strawman that somehow a whole new coach and staff just won't "get" K-State, so whelp, we better just stay with Sean because he "gets it".

I saw an article discussing how Herman was getting on a plane to go recruit after two hours of sleep after a Thursday night game.   Other coaching staffs work long hours and still find a way put together effective game plans AND recruit (as much as allowed) during the season.    Recruiting is hard work, recruiting at a slightly higher to higher level is very hard work that requires lots of long hours.    There's now, thanks in large part, but not entirely to LHC Bill Snyder (see, Tuck Nation would meltdown over not giving full credit to Snyder) plenty of positive things to sell about K-State.    Ron Prince was hired because of one guy ego driven idiot who thought he knew more then anyone else and who wanted to fuel his ego driving legacy.   I'd like to think that UPKS and ADJC are a lot smarter then that ego maniacal clown was.

I'm tired of all the HCIW speculation, the question of whether Sean succeeds to the throne, and if Brett or Bob succeed Bill.

What I want to know is this: regardless of who Bill's successor may be, who realistically will step into this job? Who? And who will be acceptable to ADJC?
This entire post is a giant contradiction.  That being said, the answer to your question is no.

Yeah, that's it Steffy. :rolleyes.

Just to get this straight:  Snyder has been writing letters to people for decades, knowing that one day the internet and Twitter and Facebook would be invented, which would of course mean that at that point some of the recipients of his letters would post them, which would cause a bunch of goodwill for Snyder and KSU (I hate that!!), which will in turn give him leverage with regard to his retirement?

If you believe that, it is obvious you just hate Snyder.

There's a fine line between gE and Steffy. A lot of dumbasses don't realize he's been sending these letters for years and a lot of gE wants to break sinks since a 9-4 season, with a QB they never wanted, to today's date (of just the tip and I told you so!) era. Everyone relax, tomorrow is Thursday.

Or you could quote the whole thing. gE loves to overreact to the smallest things, like rough ridin' letters that Snyder sends out. They'll also be the first ones to say "I told you so!" and "hur hur hur"! There's a fine line between Steffy: "Everything Snyder does is perfection!" and gE: "If this dumbass would stop taking 2 minutes out of his day to write letters, we'd beat these teams!" logic. Just the tip: Was referring to the TCU and Oklahoma State outcomes, which I thought we'd have no shot of being in within arms reach of. I'm not settling, but I know a rebuilding year when I see one and i'm not going to break sinks over it.

He is referring to my two year crusade against these stupid letters, and my saying last week that I told you so when other people started to express annoyance about them but he didn't have the balls to actually come out and say that. That being said, I have no idea what this has to do with steffy or the larger issue about this football team.

It's not just you, MIR, but i'm happy you think so highly of yourself, that you'd be my main focus. Every time someone brings up the stupid rough ridin' letters, I want to snap. It's his thing, who gives a eff? Not everyone is as cool and edgy as gE posters. If they bring a smile to someone, then let him do his rough ridin' thing.

As for football, Everyone should have known what we were getting ourselves into this year. Rebuilding years happen everywhere. Is it a losers mentality to think that it exists at K-State, sure, but I guess i'm being realistic with my expectations. I feel like recruiting has been better, but we just don't see it yet. ----Young as team!

Thanks for the reminder, dumbass. We almost/should have beat TCU and Oklahoma state. Everyone had those as losses coming into the season. We played those games with like 66% of our roster, because we've lost so many to key injuries. Call it a moral victory, but this team has been way more competitive than I expected, minus last weeks crap show.

In reading social media of former players, I agree with some of their sentiments.   That being the letters are good in one respect and that Bill knows exactly what he's doing in a time dominated by social media.    But they also feel like, and I agree that the letters are becoming self serving and that an even great level of pedestal raising and "look at me" is being directed towards the football coach.   Whereas in Snyder I it was always the team, the team, the team . . . first, foremost and always.    That really has nothing to do with taking the time out to write the notes . . . but by all means, carry on with the meltdown Wacks.

I'm betting its his last season. I also blame coaching for the injuries. 1 or 2 is bad luck. 8-12 is poor conditioning and training.

Jesse Ertz injury is on the staff.  He's 6'3", 205 pounds, and had already blown out that knee in HS.  Of course he wasn't going to make it running this offense.

I agree, that's a silly thing to pin on the coaches but, you can look at the two guys and make the assumption that Sams is more durable. Didn't you recently essentially call Sams fat?

That definitely wasn't me. I can honestly see the huge difference between the two. I'd do anything for Sams this year. Just thought the dimension talking point was super dumb. I just like playing devils advocate, obviously!
Title: Re: It this Bill's last season?
Post by: TheHamburglar on October 22, 2015, 08:02:35 PM
Wacky, your missing the previously torn ACL part of that.  The dimension part was to show how easy of a target that knee was.  He's 6'3" and we were putting him in a position to have players 70 pounds heavier than him repeatedly tackling him from the side, diving at that knee.  The weight was to show he's not the battering ram, lean forward and absorb hits with his upper half build.  Hell, the first play of the season we ran him over the left tackle and exposed his bad knee to be dove at from the outside by a DL.  Risking your season by putting your tall QB in a position to constantly have a previously blown out knee hit repeatedly by larger players is on the coaches.

That's fair. You can't ignore his HS numbers tho. Even with the injury. Athletes have came back from that, but I get your point. Not in this type of offense. However, he has been resting for the last two years.

But he wouldn't.  He hates both of those things.

People who are LHC Bill Snyder fans first, K-State fans second, please don't respond.

For the rest, is there any consideration on the injuries for the fact that we have a lot of guys who really have no business playing D1 P5 conference football out there getting hit by guys who are D1 P5 guys of which many will get looks by the NFL?

I mean, I saw two guys who sketti'd little Kody Cook's shoulder and those were two legit D1 P5 DB's of which one if not both will get drafted in the NFL.

Well, I don't know.  Barnett, McDaniel, Lee, etc are legit. Delton is legit.  Shelley is legit.

It seems like the injuries aren't discriminating between the athletic talent and the five heart guys. I feel like something systemic has to be wrong, but not necessarily the talent when it comes to that particular topic.  Probably our S&C and practice methods if anything.

It's probably just random and has very little to do with strength and conditioning.  Every team has injuries, ours only seem worse because we 1) know the team better and 2) didn't recruit well enough to have depth.

In the past it has been discussed that bill goes full contact every practice.  I would imagine, that if he is still doing that, that it has something  to do with the injuries just from lack of recovery  time day to day.  :dunno:

Big 12 rules only allow for two contact practices a week.

Mike Greenberg basically said what we're all thinking about LHOFCBS and Sean Snyder in his talk about Bo Ryan and Wisky.

They're not close to the same thing. If this happened with Bill I bet Dana would become the interim. The Wisconsin assistant was thought to be the leading candidate by people close to that program. People close to the K-State program are still speculating whether or not Sean even wants to be the head coach, and no one at all even bothers to list him as a possibility to replace his dad anymore. Even national guys that don't know crap have moved past Sean.
