Title: KK is going to be must listen

His take on the ku ad story today was spot-on, informed and insightful.  I, for one, know where I'll be gooing for reliable, well-sourced updates to this developing story.

Kietz, you're the best.

caller:  heard Bill Self owned 5 homes valued at about $1 million each in the neighborhood of that shady real estate guy...

kk:  great call, thanks for the call.  Hadn't heard that, doubt that ANYTHING Bill Self has done is wrong.  Look, he bought a house from a convicted felon, but I don't know anything about the guy that I bought my house from!  The facts are he was a convicted felon but I find it hard to believe he knew that.  The interesting part of the story is that these shady characters all had some shady business dealings with Brady Morningstar's father.  Now, you might say Lawrence is a small town and everybody just kind of does business with everybody and you might be right.  But this is an athletic department we are talking about here and I'm sure that as the facts come out we will find out more.  The part that has floored me, ABSOLUTELY HAS ME FLOORED!  Is that Lew Perkins was talking up at the Dole Center and he is on record as saying that the $800,000 judgment given to the University in the Joe College case was waived by the Athletics Department.  Now that doesn't make any sense!  Who ever heard of Lew Perkins turning down $800,000 of revenue?  I don't care if the guy was paying it off $1,000 a week....So this guy Joe College Larry Sinks is involved in the ticket scandal.  He knows all about this ticket stuff.  And guess what (kietz chuckle)  HE'S A WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION!  Listen, the FBI is involved with this character Rodney Jones and when the FBI shows up, I'm sorry but someone is going down. Everyone here knows that.  So I guess we'll just see, we are watching this.  Thanks for the call.

it really is kind of weird that sinks, morningstar, scot pollard and self all own on comptons street. it's just weird. it's not like it's a neighborhood or anything. it's a little street just north of the hyvee on sixth. no more than ten houses. used to only be compton from what i recall and now these other people all own on there. it's weird. not to mention that self got his place from the felon who ratted everything out.

wow. color me shocked that $elf apparently gave up his house in fall creek farms for one next door to doug compton on a street (bauer brook ct) that i'm pretty sure comptom owned all the land to at one time and has started to develop over the past five years. a couple of other interesting names on that street too.

http://www2.ljworld.com/propertyvalues/?q=Bill+Self

http://www2.ljworld.com/propertyvalues/?q=bauer+brook+ct

 :nono:

yeah, i mean nothing fishy there i'm sure. self just randomly decided to give up his million dollar plus house in fall creek farms to purchase a different million dollar plus house (located about a half mile west of his) from a convicted felon who happened to know a ton about the illegal actions going on in the ku athletic dept. and who also happened to be a business part w/ roger morningstar. the same roger morningstar who's son somehow received a scholarship to play ku basketball at the age of 20 after being a very pedestrian highschool player at free state high and also happens to own property on the same little street.

add the fact that it's basically doug comptons street and the fact that all those other people own or owned property there and it just seems almost unreal.

I guess the money is so good from the previous events that the Salina ku Barn "money laundering post ku career payoff" Storming tour was canceled.   I guess the boosters really stepped up their "contributions" at the other events.

I don't think Kietz is right on the part about the ku AD waiving or walking away from an $800k judgment.  First, that judgment was won with university funded lawyers, that is like throwing away public funds.  It would make the Prince deal look smart.   Second, that is borderline abuse of process.  Using the Court's system to leverage someone to get testimony or owe a favor...that would be despicable.  Not going to happen.

But the house swapping with felons is kind of weird... :dunno:

Oh yeah, all of Tardville was in on that one.  An OP law firm was involved, and Tardville knew the whole scope and the NCAA was going to "Drop the hammer" on K-State.    So Ben just parroted what he read in Tardville forums.

Remember now, K-State athletics is in a "shambles" and it would take "years" to recover.

This scandal will rock the ku athletic dept, but don't hold your breath on Self, Perkins, Morningstar, or anyone else of importance being implicated.  The big hit will be on the donors, and will rival the scale of contribution withholding when people found out about the super secret Prince deal.  The big difference will that ku athletic dept personnel are susceptible to criminal indictment and prosecution by the feds.  The ku faithful will have to add that to the "lack of institutional control" albatross that they carry.  Can those 'tards withstand two albatrosses?

I remember right around this time last year I was driving around in KC.  810 was playing the racin' boys so naturally I switched over to 610.  Nick Wright was going on and on about how KU's Athletic Dept. was head and shoulders the best in the area, but that MU had the resources to supplant them.  He was talking about how mbb was a blueblood power(which it is) and that football at KU was a sleeping giant.

He also spent a good portion of the broadcast trashing KSU's AD, remember this was in the midst of the Prince stuff.  He practically dared callers to defend KSU.

Funny how things change in a year.

I actually they called it a PROMINENT OP law firm, as if a private law firm has enforcement powers.  But I do remember the wanting and yearning that ku fan had to tarnish KSU's squeaky clean image.  Instead of cleaning up their own swamp, they wanted KSU to get dragged in.

I don't expect anything to happen to Self.  But Perkins quite possibly could be a different story.  Again, my little ku buddies tell me the new Chancellor and figures in the KBOR are not happy that the FBI is investigating ku athletics and they are supposedly wondering aloud how Lew Perkins couldn't have known anything about what was going on.  Particularly since it supposedly goes back years, and Lew has been there for over 5 years now.

Now you guys are doing the exact same thing.  Bravo!
What's the scoop Beems?  Which heads will roll?
I don't know, and don't really care.  More interested in where Terrence Jones is going to commit.
We both know this is BS.  I wasn't flaming, just looking for insight.  :dunno:

why would you not care about this?

i can understand not caring if this stuff were going on in the english dept, but the athletic dept seems to be something you follow closely.  :dunno:

I just don't see much coming out of this.  Rodney Jones is going to prison, along with a few others possibly.  Doesn't change my status as a KU fan.

Ben, we use words like possibly, could, maybe

You on the other hand were definitively saying that the "Hammer" WAS going to drop on K-State.

It's always a good thing when athletic department officials are going to prison for activities undertaken while they were conducting business on behalf of the athletic department.

That's some new squawk logic you've just got stand back and admire.

I could have sworn your former athletic director was caught using private donations for personal expenses.

Bill Self could murder someone in cold blood out in public right on campus and as long as he was bringing  top 10 classes and hanging banners no kansas fans would care in the least.  and he'd get away with it to.  kansas basketball is the most untouchable institution in America the last 20 years.  really, its worthy of great admiration more for its off court defensive ability than on court.

yeah, how many AD's get investigated by the FBI?  and what are the odds that any of this made it back into the hands of a player?

You mean a loan paid back with interest?? (not a fan of the ethical nature of the deal, but it's not illegal).

So does the FBI come before or after the hammer drops??

ku fans in my social circle dismiss this investigation as small potatoes.  I'm just trying to figure out what would constitute major corruption if the director of your major fund-raising organ being charged with theft, bank fraud, etc. does not qualify?  Maybe there's so much crooked sh1t going on in the ku athletic dept that they are relieved this is all that's being investigated?

Was talking about the situation with a co worker today. The janitor, former ku grad and HUGE fan, overheard us while he was emptying the trash cans and said it would all blow over. Just one rogue person started it and he is now gone. :dunno:

If the "one rouge person" theory is correct, and all those tickets were diverted by the one rouge person without any other AD employee even noticing, KU will basically be stating that their AD execs are completely incompetent idiots.

Under this theory, you have to think that Lew still gets the ax for running such a sanctuary for morons.

This is slightly diff.

KU has X seats and no doubt has a mechanism to track who each seat is sold to and how much.  Missing/faking enough of these tickets over a 5-7 yr period, worth hundreds of thou to a few mill, should be something very easy to be detected if it is indeed only one person pulling the strings.

Bad contracts happen all the time.  Negotiators get the best of the guy across the table daily.  Everyone can know that their boss took it in the rear on the contract, and still not be able to do anything about it since it is a binding contract.

Also, Krouse did get the ax.

LOL, no.  It shows exactly the same if not more incompetence on KSU's part if the lone gunman theory were true (ps. it's not)

I agree that it shows more incompetence on KSU's part, given that ours was definitely a top down issue.  That said, I imagine there is still a whole lot of detail to come out of the KU camp.

True - a LOT more will come out about this ticket deal.  One thing you'll be able to count on is that ku fans will say that this kind of stuff goes on in every athletic dept., or alternatively, our program is so weak that there's no market for black market K-State basketball tickets.  Either way, the fan base at ku will live in denial.

jaymart, thoughts?

It's going to drag on for a while, lots of people slinging mud at others because of the FBI and IRS being involved. And the longer this drags on, there are more chances of something of major significance sticking. Dude I talked to said Lew is prepared for all possibilities, but at the moment, there doesn't seem to be imminent danger.

Lew just put close to $5million of ku money in his personal account, he couldn't give 2 fucks about what occurs next.  As long as he doesn't get jail time...
