Hey, someone help me out.  I just tuned into the game.... via online radio.  I hate this kstateHD crap.  So, is Bazooka Joe our franchise QB now?  What happened to Ertz?  Did he not have the kneecaps that Hubes has?

Kstatehd works perfect for me. Maybe move out of the boonies bro

I don't live in the boonies.  I'm just cheap.  I'm not gonna pay $10/month to watch one game where KState should win by +40.

BTW for anyone that wasn't watching on KState HDTV, they definitely:

a) referred to Hubener as Bazooka Joe

and

b) compared Hubener to USVP Joe Biden

It's a sad nickname now.  Like nicknaming someone who just lost an arm "stubby", but giving the nickname right before he lost the arm.

Does kstatesports no longer put the radio broadcast of the game up?

There was a guy on the postgame call-in show that asked something like "Now that Heisman candidate Jesse Ertz is out and we've got Joe Hubener in looking like a Heisman candidate, what do you think the odds are he gets consideration?" and Levi's uncle cut him off and asked if he had a serious question.

That sucks for the Ertz doughnout and everything, but I think we all knew he would get seriously hurt once he had to play a real D1 defense.  He doesn't have the body to last in this offense, let alone 2 plays against a scrub team

Kinda odd it's his job outright after he was listed with an "or" on the depth chart.

He played very well aside from his fumble. Its his job to lose at this point.

I mean, if that's what we consider "very well", it'll be a long season. He definitely was competent and a few breaks away from having a pretty good game, but he was also a few breaks away from being absolutely terrible, considering that's by far the worst team we'll play.

He did everything he was asked to do. There were at least 3 drops on perfectly thrown balls. Our drives usually ended because of penalties or drops.

He should have been 12-18 with a couple of TD's if our WR's were Big 12 level.

Joe has Big 12 velocity.  He needs to work on reading his blocks a lot better (it feels like he was better last year), and more dedicated reps with the 1's will help him with the receivers going forward.

He's enough to get us to 7 wins.  This season hinges on the defense and special teams, and whether or not we can get a run game going.  Hubener isn't really going to be the make/break.  There isn't enough separation between him and the rest of the QB's to make a compelling argument.

I know, and I agree partly. But you guys also can't apply that without acknowledging the horribly under-thrown ball to Heath that will be an int in every other game.

I'm good with Hubes and the way he threw the ball for the most part.. in all aspects of the game, I was disappointed in his play against the competition.

The tipped pass at the goal line was disappointing for someone his height. I'm not going to knock him too hard for Heath's take-away catch. We've seen WRs breakup under thrown passes in the past (happened a lot with Waters). The only thing that made the play standout was Health taking the ball away.
I'm interested in how he responses to a week of preparation and added expectations.

Oddly he really didn't need to in the game. Also I don't think they will have him throw intermediate pass anyways.

The question about Joe is how long can he hold off Delton. That is the interesting question.

100% this. I was saying it during the game, it seems like he doesn't go through his progressions. It works when it is a really quick pass, but he telegraphed a lot. Against a competent defensive back field those are picks all day.

I also had to explain to the people I was watching the game with how big of a deal it was that they burned Delton's redshirt for a shitty three plays at the end of the game. The commentators on KStateHDTV were talking the whole game about if they would burn Banks redshirt, but after they put Delton in for five seconds I'm guessing he'll stay out of the competition till next year.
Title: Re: Bazooka Joe
Post by: halfEmpty on September 08, 2015, 09:01:54 AM
When I saw the depth chart I figured Joe was technically #2 on the depth chart because of his experience in the offense.  I believe Delton was there because he would be put in on packaged plays or sets.  Only way Delton becomes the starter is if he really matures on the playbook and offensive calls.  Or Joe just throws a complete turd of a game.  Obviously they love Delton's ability or they wouldn't have burned his redshirt and we will see him more frequently in games.

I just don't see Hubener as a runner.  Upright, slow, clunky runner with not an ounce of wiggle.  He did have a couple of nice throws, but there were also some that would've been picked by any decent D1 caliber cornerback.  Hope I'm wrong, but this is going to be a long year.

I worry about Joe's ability to run, I think he is solid between the tackles, but outside or slower developing plays he can struggle. He doesn't possess great speed or have a change of pace. He has to be Colin like in his running but Colin was so clever. Just watching Colin change pace to beat a LB around the edge was a thing of beauty .
