TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Basketball is hard => Topic started by: Dirty Mike on February 03, 2015, 08:44:22 AM

KU beat Iowa State last night and everyone had the "revelation" that the Big 12 Title still goes through Lawrence. What grinds my gears about the whole situation is that people are surprised by this. I'm sick of hearing about how KU will have a 'down' year, and they have too many young players. YOU COULD PUT oscar WEBER AS THEIR COACH AND THEY WOULD STILL WIN THE TITLE. Why, you ask? It is hella easy to win games when you have an entire roster of 5 and 4 star recruits (sans walk ons). Bill Self is a good coach, but it doesn't matter who is in place there. It is a tradition rich basketball program and kids want to go there, and I hate it. Quit talking about the amazing coaching job going on there. Roy did it before him, and whoever comes in next will continue doing it. Hell, they should always win the title with the players coming in...everyone quit calling it the most amazing thing ever. eff.

Mike Mike Mike really ??? Squeeky could coach that bunch to 11 straight titles??? :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited: :excited:

K-State fans are the greatest.
"Hey, the Big 12 is really hard. We should make the tournament every year if we get 10 wins in the league. Its hard."
"Its so easy for KU to win the Big 12 every year. Anyone could do it."
-
I don't hate KU Dirty Mike. You might be in the wrong place for that hatred.

I enjoy hating on Harvard at tournament time.
"Everybody's so excited about it; in the dining halls, everyone's talking about it," said Danielle Rabinowitz, a Harvard sophomore from Brookline, Mass. "So, even for a person like myself, who isn't at the basketball games themselves, I'm pretty in tune with the success of the basketball team.
"People always stereotypically feel that our conversations are generally about philosophy, or obscure topics that the common man can't relate to. I think that just adding this element of sports to the mix kind of grounds us in a more human way that is really great."

I mostly only hate boring teams that play boring basketball at a boring pace. That said, I don't really hate any team, just the games they play.

The only annoying thing about the endless reminders regarding the conference winning streak (other than how annoying it is to be told the same thing over and over) is the complete disregard of the fact that other teams have one the conference during that run.
I don't know a single OU fan that claims the Big XII in 2012, yet the validation gooners are content to ignore the second place finishes.
-
KU has made me a decent amount of money lately so why would i hate them?

It all the bullshit they talk about that piss me off, wish the could except the fact they are who they are because they have talent in spades. Not this X&O genius or superb player development.

Self dominates every rough ridin' year. Not even Cal and Roy can claim that. Hell even Krzyzewski has down years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006%E2%80%9307_Duke_Blue_Devils_men%27s_basketball_team (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006%E2%80%9307_Duke_Blue_Devils_men%27s_basketball_team).

Self gets his guys to play very well and very hard, talent or no. So does Calipari.

I agree with that. But when he does get those guys doing it they are ridiculous. He's not consistent like Bill though.

No one recruits like he does. I think there are a number of coaches who could get teams like that playing at a high level if they had the opportunity. I'm not as big a believer in his ego management cred as some I suppose. It's the amassing of talent that others can't duplicate, not the coaching it up. Of course he gets full credit for that. Kentucky wasn't doing that under Billy Clyde or Tubby.

Bill Self hasn't had to deal with other teams in the conference recruiting close to the level he has. On top of that he fortunate enough to have older talent. Something Cal doesn't always have that luxury. Self is one the best roster builders of all time, but you don't do that alone do you.
Also if you look at Cal's 2012-2013 honestly really isn't all that talent.

we haven't seen talent amassing like this since the Wooden/Gilbert era at UCLA

Mr. Bread, at the bar on Saturday before the Kstate/ku game I met one of my friends buddies who's an alum from Illinois. He was very giddy to tell me all about oscar. Thanks to you, I stopped him in his tracks and gave him the full history of ole oscar. He was floored that I was so knowledgeable on the matter. Thanks, man!

When we do fire oscar, it's my hope we don't have the same reactionary response as Illinois and hire the a coach solely because his raspy voice in 180 degrees removed for squeaks. I kind of understand, tho.

You're rough ridin' stupid. There's really no way around it. Other people recruiting close to their level didn't make Cal or Roy or K have down years. It may have prevented them from winning their conferences in a given year, but it didn't make them suck crap on occasion. They did that. Self doesn't have those years. He's doing something no one else is in that regard. His teams show every year without fail.
Go all the way back to his second year at Tulsa. 16 straight NCAA invites with at least one win every rough ridin' time but twice. 1st or 2nd in his conference every rough ridin' year. The guy just dick stomps. #winningmachine

That's 22–11 (8–8) good for 6th in the ACC to go along with a first round flameout in the NCAAs. There was also 1995–96 at 18–13 (8–8) good for a 4th-place tie in the ACC and another first round exit. You're not right.

KU just gets better talent than them?
That's 22–11 (8–8) good for 6th in the ACC to go along with a first round flameout in the NCAAs. There was also 1995–96 at 18–13 (8–8) good for a 4th-place tie in the ACC and another first round exit. You're not right.
Team still finished 12th in Kenpom.

I was directly insulting, but maybe you mean M-N is practicing deception. If it's schtick, it's fantastic.
-
Self gets his guys to play very well and very hard, talent or no. So does Calipari.
Cal hasn't managed to do it every year in a smaller time period with more talent.
Cal has a hundred more wins (including some in the nba), more final fours, more elite 8's, and did most of that at rough ridin' UMASS and Memphis. What fantasy are you living in?

Not sure if anyone has heard, but kstate has the most wins in big xii conference play all-time.
I'll remind you again in 5 minutes, then wear a t-shirt stating the same, then put up a billboard, then tell you again.

This is a basketball thread. Were you immunized as a child?

Hi Beems!

You know your thread is on fire when beems is gone for like a decade and comes back and drops a GIF and no one even notices.

I think basketball was part of kstate's triple crown, which has only ever happened one other time. But, all time big 12 conference leader in wins is a near 20 year accomplishment.

Jesus, can you get even a single thing correct? This is embarrassing.

Bill Self is very likely a much better basketball coach than LHC Bill Snyder is a football coach. Discounting Self's accomplishments is dumb.

Who is doing that? I'm just wondering if anyone has heard that kstate has more big xii wins than ou, ut and every other big xii school. We should talk about it ad nauseum.

I won't stand in the way of you looking like a prodigious buffoon.

The best runs at umass and memphis were vacated. He sucked so much crap in the NBA he didn't even last three full seasons before he got canned. Also none of that refutes what I wrote. Not your best effort, bud.

2nd place, 3rd place, doesn't matter. #m0$tw1n$a11t1m3

Look, there's no doubt Self, Cal and K, and maybe Roy, Billy and Boheim are top dogs.
Arguing that Bill is more consistent than Cal, when Cal wins more games and advances further in the tournament is probably just your eyes playing tricks on you. You should probably argue Mark Few is more consistent than Cal, he's won like 75 consecutive conference titles.

You can be very simple. This is one of those times. The only point being made was that Self, unlike any other current high major coach, does not have down years. It's not a controversial take. Nobody is saying Bill is better overall than Cal, at least not that I'm aware of.
Cal does have down years though. After he was established at Memphis (3 consecutive first place finishes) he had a 6th place NIT season in shitbox conference usa, which is nearly unfathomably pathetic. At Kentucky, the year after he won it all, he went to the NIT and lost in the first round. Self doesn't do that.

Beems, I liked the gif and hope you are doing well these days.
