Title: Yikes
Post by: MakeItRain on December 28, 2014, 04:11:23 PM
We absolutely stink. I haven't hit the panic button until today, we have no way to score without Marcus on the floor. We are 40 minutes from the start of conference play and at this point we are without a doubt the 9th best team in the conference.

I really don't know how you can avoid laying this completely at the feet of oscar.

Sidenote LOL about Stan not understanding the difference in what 16 seconds means to college basketball in relation to the NBA. This whole thing is a total crap show :flush:

Relax. Texas Southern just beat Mich. State, and will probably easily win their conference. The benefits of a strong early schedule is starting to show; they will be a tournament team come March. Jevon completely lost this game for us in a matter of seconds.

LOLable quotes (now) from after aTm:

Quote
“This is just the time of year when, if you want to be a good team, you have to start clicking,” sophomore K-State guard Marcus Foster said, “and right now, we are really clicking. We have got to keep it up.”

“This is a turnaround game going into conference play to finish out the year,” senior K-State forward Nino Williams said. “We knew going in that this game was probably the biggest game of the season. We just harped on this being our chance of the season, and we took advantage. This was our best game.”

“It was a huge game, just to get another (power conference) win,” Weber said. “It was a huge win to get some confidence.… It has been a little rocky the first six weeks of the season. It hasn’t been easy, but now hopefully we can move forward.”

“This game has always turned the tables for K-State,” Foster said. “It was Florida before I got here. It was Gonzaga last year. And now it is Texas A&M. I think it is fueling us and we will be able to push on for a lot of wins coming up.”

We aren't going 0-18, not even close. We will be 4-14 at worst. But lets be real 0-18 would absolutely get oscar fired as would 1-17, 2-16, and likely 3-15. The people who bankroll the program absolutely wouldn't have it any other way. Currie likes money more than he does admitting fault. Anyone remember who he gave his first extension to? Deb Patterson. He'll face far more heat if this season tanks and Marcus leaves.

Do you have functioning eyes and/or ears, either would work? We would have lost by double digits without Foster. We lost the momentum in both halves when his moron coach sat him. In this offense he is all we have. We would likely have 2 or 3 wins without him.

Also Indiana (unranked, but likely tourney team) kicked their asses a couple weeks back.

I'm just glad I don't live in Kansas and haven't had a chance to watch many games. I was occasionally checking gamecast, and I saw that we had the ball with the lead and one second left, so I assumed we won, even ignoring the ESPN notification.

At least I can root for a really exciting Hoosier team along with my girlfriend until oscar is gone. Yogi Ferrell, James Blackmon Jr, Troy Williams are an exciting scoring trio, and Tom Crean is medium-competent, which is a real upgrade from oscar.

Relax. Texas Southern just beat Mich. State, and will probably easily win their conference. The benefits of a strong early schedule is starting to show; they will be a tournament team come March. Jevon completely lost this game for us in a matter of seconds.

 good one! I notice how you left out how they just lost to the worst team in the SEC

What sucks is there's a 0%  chance oscar gets fired. Currie will give him another 2 years and continue to talk about how he won a Big 12 championship in his first year.

This is sadly way too true

I hate oscar Weber. This team plays with his personality and every single player on our team is regressing.

You can't burn oscar for being a crap coach, then burn a soph for lack of development.

After playing that awful I'm glad we lost.

Worst case was squeaking that out

It really shows how much we missed out on by getting W's in the other games where we sucked ass vs. crap teams.  Look how much more interesting today was with a loss like that vs. the side-eye games thus far that we win but clearly suck.  This place would be on rough ridin' fire if today had been like the 3rd or 4th loss to garbage that it could've been.  And it's not like winning those games has any real positive effect on anything long-term.

I think I could've enjoyed impartially watching a game in the fOOD w/sys.  And it'd probably have been one of those whole greater than the sum things.  Like I'd be able to point out funny oscar things to him, and he'd show me lol on-court stuff, and we'd both be better off for it.

Since I cant talk about
1. Webber's shitting recruiting
2. Webber's coaching
3. Webber's inability to develop players
4. Webbers shitty point guards
5. Webbers inability to inspire any enthusiasm in Wildcat nation
6. Webber's baby soft poo coaching style
7. Webber's squeeky voice
8. Webber's excuses

What is left? I could live with getting my head caved in if I thought we had young talent and it was coming but we dont. Foster is most talented player we have but he's no NBA player. Not asking for a Kentucky. We dont even have a player that could be on the roster of a Kentucky or Louisville. At the end of the day its really not Webbers fault its Curries. Webber cant help himselve, he just wakes up in the morning and sucks all day long but Currie already new this and still brought this bastard child to our door step.

People who think Currie will tolerate a 0, 1, 2, 3 win conference season are not really thinking straight. That was okay when the basketball program didn't make any money and we had ADs who didn't care if the basketball program made money. We have crap to build, this dude isn't going to watch his much talked about surplus fly out of the door. Currie believes he can find the next guy if need be.

Yep. oscar had a chance to win me over if he could show that he could sustain success in year 3 and win in the tourney. Neither of those things are going to happen and my initial prejudices have been confirmed. There's no reason to care about emaw hoops until he's gone, and that's very painful to say.

Stop rationalizing you being you. Literally everyone here hates you and none of us care about your bullshit backpedaling. Trim, go and choke this bitch so he'll shut the eff up.

Either Trim chokes the thread or WC08 calls it case closed. Either way is fine with me.

I've spent the better part of the last 7 hours thinking this was funny. I  haven't read any outside media until about 20 minutes ago and I started to seethe. I read those postgame quotes and it sent me over the top. I went from thinking it was funny, to embarrassment, to now rage. How am I falling into the grief stages, I feel like caving someones face in right now. eff this crap, a rough ridin' basketball team shouldn't make me feel like this.
I melted down a long time ago and I think I'm done. Meh

Yep. oscar had a chance to win me over if he could show that he could sustain success in year 3 and win in the tourney. Neither of those things are going to happen and my initial prejudices have been confirmed. There's no reason to care about emaw hoops until he's gone, and that's very painful to say.

Today was like my Ron losing to Louisville and making the team run stairs game.

oscar is dead to me.  I'm now 100% done.

I don't know what I'll do if he wins 6 conference games this year and Marcus leaves. I swear I don't remember what its like not to have hope in October and November. Even Wooly's last two teams had Cartier, and Lance, and Hoskins, and Massey; there was some hope there. Ron had Josh, Jordy, and James Johnson. I really don't want to prepare myself for what any sport here could look like with absolutely no preseason hope, it will hurt, a lot.

You make a free throw, you make a block out, or you do not foul the three. There were a lot of things that could have happened. Sometimes everything goes against you and it was just one of those games and it is disappointing to take.”

On the last 15 seconds…
“It was topsy-turvy, craziness. Obviously Jevon [Thomas] should not have fouled the three. I called timeout after the second free throw to talk about the block out, because they were either going to make it. We had to get it in, or they were going to miss it, and we were going to have to get the block out. I thought the block out was important. I could not see from my end, but Nino [Williams] went to the floor. I did not see how that happened and the ball bounced their way. We won a game two years ago in the same scenario, so there is not much you can say. It was just disappointing.”

I thought it was a crappy hire; most did. (I want Weber to succeed, though.)  But, given Currie's track record, do you really want him hiring our next football coach?  I trust Snyder way more than I do Currie.

I really don't understand the oscar dynamic. I honestly have no idea how we became so bad in such a small timeframe. It seems like you'd have to be actively sabotaging your own basketball team for the performance to drop off this precipitously. That's not what's happening...is it? How does something like this just happen naturally? It doesn't seem possible.

My fav is Wally explaining to all of us idiots how this is REALLY only oscar's 2nd year coaching or some kind of bullshit, and it's pretty much exactly how Frank's 2nd season went (actual 2nd season, not fake 2nd season). Choosing to disregard the fact that those two seasons really aren't all that similar at this point, his premise has created by far the dumbest rationalization I've seen for the team's performance this year. Also, him blaming this all on the players is pretty  and possibly  :opcat:

In Frank's second year the team finished 4th in the Big 12 and had 22 wins. oscar will not even come close to that this year.

To be fair, I, for one, went ape crap on Frank after 0-4 Big 12 start and getting pounded at Nebraska. I remember writing a scathing post back on the kstatefans scout site. It's easy to look back and remember the finish and the long winning streak that season, but things looked bad early.

That said, the situations aren't as similar as Wallace makes them out to be.

1. Losing Beasley, Walker and Stewart > Losing Omari, Spradling and Shane.

2. That KSU team blew out crappy opponents, but lost close non-con roadies/ neutrals to Kentucky, Iowa and at Oregon.

3. 2008-09 actually was young. Pullen was third fiddle the season before at best. Jamar was a RS frosh. White Tiger (not Brad Korn) was our starting big. Denis was in his first season as a transfer. Foster was the best player last year, and Wes was a big contributor as a frosh. Gip looked like a surefire 12 and 8 guy. K-State returned a lot.

4. Two things are working against this team. a) the Big 12 is much tougher now than then, and it will take a 10-8 Big 12 record just to make the NIT. b) oscar's history of collapse looms large.
