Not a troll, I promise. Your forum was discovered by one of the members of the Auburn message board I am a member of and some of the posts here were re-posted there. Few of our people are talking crap about the game; most are worried about it being a "trap" game.
I have read some of your threads about the state of your program and they uncomfortably remind me of our own posts during the 2012 season when we went without a single SEC win. Of course we ended up with Malzahn as HC after that season so that pain was worth it in the end.
In this thread, I will occasionally re-post articles from our staff about the upcoming game in case any of you are interested.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Fair warning though, some of our more obnoxious members will undoubtedly find this thread and I apologize in advance for them.

I concur, I think it will be a good game. First of all it will be in Manhattan, and secondly your coaches have tons of film on what we do. Now granted, we will score lots of points, but your team is equally capable of that. Also, we have some areas on defense that are ripe for exploitation.

Auburn defense focuses on Kansas State quarterback
When No. 5 Auburn goes on the road to play No. 20 Kansas State on Sept. 18, dealing with quarterback Jake Waters will be a top priority.
Waters leads the Wildcats in rushing with 193 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. He also has completed 35-of-57 passes for 462 yards and two touchdowns.
Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson welcomes having extra time to prepare for Waters and head coach LHC Bill Snyder's offense. Keeping Waters in the pocket and makings plays when he runs, Johnson said, will be critical.
"Every quarterback we’ve played has been pretty mobile, but not like this guy," Johnson said Sunday, a day after Auburn blew out San Jose State 59-13. "Coach Snyder is going to run him intentionally about 30 times a game, so we know he can run when he has to. That will be a big deal, and really just being able to fit the run on him, period."
A running quarterback, Johnson said, is important in Snyder's scheme. And he has one in Waters.
"That’s a big part of his offense," Johnson said. "He likes big, physical running quarterbacks that have the ability to run over you or speed or whatever his knack is. He designs his offense to run the quarterback. You can bet in a passing situation that keeping him bottled up is going to be a huge challenge."

I've got news for you, pal. Nobody just strolls into LHC Bill Snyder #Family Stadium and leaves with a W. Auburn's in for a dog fight.

Sounds like your dc has been scouting the wrong quarterback (Klein).

Ha ha! Thanks for the warning. We have 1 or 2 knuckleheads that can certainly hold their own when "talking trash." :Sword Fight:
But for the record, this is a family blog so any potential rabble-rousers should be warned: if anybody violates the rules, they'll be forced to walk the plank.

i think your DC might be a brainless moron :ohno:
-
running quarterback
-
my fav part is where waters has 25 carries in 2 games and this idiot moron dc says he gets 30 carries a game
-
no wonder the defense in the sec is lacking... i mean jeez...

i think your DC might be a brainless moron :ohno:
:runaway:
If I must be honest, I am totally unfamiliar with your team this year - I haven't watched any of your games; I am hoping to catch a rebroadcast somewhere.
As to the AU's DC. He is Ellis Johnson, a veteran DC in the SEC, and is a master of in-game adjustments (see the Arkansas game). I don't know what to say about the mis-named QB I have no answer for that.
Here are my 2 cents about AU right now:
We will run the ball successfully. No one has been able to stop us with these players and schemes, that is a given. Our Achilles heel IMO is Marshall's passing - he is not very good at it if I may be frank. If you guys can force him into some passing situations you stand a pretty good chance of some takeaways.
Our defense is a work in progress. I believe by the time we go to Tuscaloosa, in November, that the D will be very good indeed, but we are talking about the next game here. From what I can see, we cannot get any kind of pass rush against a good O-line without some blitz schemes, and of course that creates opportunities for a good QB. Our LB's and secondary are very talented but unseasoned. They will make mistakes.

From the Bleacher Report:
Kansas State QB Jake Waters Proves He Has Skills to Beat Auburn
With a Thursday night matchup against the Auburn Tigers looming for Kansas State, Saturday’s contest against Iowa State had all the makings of the perfect trap game.
And for most of the game, it looked as though the Cyclones, coming off a deflating loss to North Dakota State last week, would upend the Wildcats, who are projected as one of the front-runners in the Big 12.
Instead, a stellar final drive by quarterback Jake Waters—who had a career day in his home state of Iowa—that capped off a 15-point comeback and set the stage for Waters to lead the Wildcats to a possible upset over the Tigers.
Waters, who's been under a mountain of pressure in the Little Apple since his backup last year, Daniel Sams, transferred to McNeese State, was the unquestioned superstar on Saturday.
K-State's gunslinger had arguably the best game of his career against the Cyclones, accounting for two of the team's four touchdowns, both on the ground, and racking up 377 total yards. He also had a career rushing day, picking up 138 yards on mostly designed quarterback draws.
It was Waters' game-winning touchdown run with 90 seconds left in the game that capped off a 32-28 win for the Wildcats.
-
 Yeah I don't believe Waters is running over anyone.
-
You guys need to get a life. Who has enough time to make a fake avatar and troll their own fans. Seen it happen three times this weekend
There are other ways to get pumped up for a big game.

lol at all of this

Here's the thing about K-State: We're the best at basically everything ever and you need to be concerned about us running up the score.
-

Very SEC to look past a # 20 ranked Big 12 school. Crap like that happens all of the time. They probably are looking forward to some tough game against Vandy or something.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
I checked out one of their boards and I'm likely to just cancel my trip to Manhattan. We have no chance to win guys... First off, they are SEC-SEC-SEC and their fans along with ESPN have opened my eyes to the fact that all other conferences are basically NAIA football.
Here's some gems about what they REALLY think about us:
So AU by a couple TDs on the road ......or a trap game? Which is it?
That's a huge difference in expectation though in my days of watching AU football I have seen some early season games like this tank an entire season.
Auburn by three touchdowns atleast.... If Kansas state can lose to North Dakota State in Manhattan, which occurred last year, Auburn SHOULD be able to handle them.
If they don't win by at least 20, the meltdown at http://www.aufamily.com will be glorious.
Auburn should win handily. However, if we go in thinking that we are playing a team that should lose to ND State, it turns into a trap game pretty quickly.
IMHO this is an interesting inter-divisional matchup, but unless our D fouls up completely (the proverbial straw that should start ole Ellis circulating his resume) it should not be a game in our top 5 opponent concerns for this season. Which is not to say we can't lose to K-state, but it's akin to losing to Miss State. If the K-state D does anything LIKE handling our O, we're in for a long season.
inter-divisional?!?! what the actual eff?? this toothless racist redneck thinks we are FCS...
I think we win comfortably. It would be fun to go to this game like Bird is trying to do. I understand it is not easy to get to K State. They do have talent and a hall of fame coach, we have more talent, more speed, and yet even better coaching.
I'm gonna have to swim the English Channel to get to Manhattan (IF I go now...) so he probably has a point about the difficulty in getting there, but better coaching? :sdeek:
Haven't read any KSU blogs but I get the impression from the general media that this game is right up there with their KU game in importance to the Wildcats. It would help for AU to take their crowd out of the game with some explosive offense early.
Somebody should invite him to this blog... Clearly they don't realize we play in the Big12 and have several FAR more important games on our schedule than some no-defense team from the SEC-SEC-SEC and most folks couldn't even tell you when the ku game is.
Our 3-9 team would've beat North Dakota state but I get your point. I don't think Kansas state has the talent to make that drastic of a turnaround.
Nope... Sure don't. I have no idea how we've managed to win 8 of our last 9. :dunno:
I have much respect how LHC Bill Snyder transformed K-State from a homecoming lay up into a winning program his own way. They haven't been a creampuff since prior to the early '90s. That being said, taking into account what this Auburn team has returning in comparison to core experienced personnel in comparison to KSU, the overall talent edge, the big game coaching experience on the sidelines, then yes, a blowout is definitely within reason for this one. This a trap game only if the players are mentally elsewhere, such as fine tuning themselves for revenge against LSU.
I can't believe he forgot to bring up SEC-SEC-SEC...
I doubt our coaches or players will be overlooking this game. thanks to media like this for keeping it in their minds that they'll need to be ready for this one.
However, I do think Auburn pulls away in the 2nd half and wins by 2 or 3 TDs. Any pre-game hype by the media will be greatly appreciated for adding to any additional credibility our Tiger have when they win big on the road in this one.
I don't think they'll get any credit for winning an "inter-divisional" game, but what do I know?
I think this will be a good game for about 2 quarters. We will start pulling away, and will have the game pretty much won by mid to late 3rd quarter.
Auburn 41
K State 20
At least this guy was somewhat reasonable with his predicto... I just hope we're not down by 50 at half.
I have to laugh at some of these posts. Regardless of what their offense does....does anyone ACTUALLY believe they can stop our Offense? One of the best run defenses in the NCAA couldn't do it last season. And we're projected to be more efficient this season. So....I'll predict a 55-10 win for Auburn. That's being generous. We have almost 2 weeks to rest and prepare for this game.

-
Auburn by three touchdowns atleast.... If Kansas state can lose to North Dakota State in Manhattan, which occurred last year, Auburn SHOULD be able to handle them.
They have invoked the curse of NDSU. They are screwed.
-
They don't sound that unreasonable to me (aside from the strange attachment to the NDSU game).
-
Yeah, they really are obsessed with a game that happened 14 games ago. Should we be worried about a team that went 0-fer in conference play in 2012??
-
The 2 best SEC teams (missouri and A&M) were pretty much bottom feeders for years in the XII. If we don't win by 14+ I think things need to be reassessed big time.
-
Are there large numbers of au fans really calling this a trap game?

Monday Morning Quarterback, Game 2: The offense
Here’s how four former Auburn standouts saw the offense in Saturday’s 59-13 victory over San Jose State at Jordan-Hare Stadium:
Former QB Ben Leard on the quarterbacks
“Overall, they continue to do well. Nick Marshall has grown as a passer. He’s improved, but he’s not perfect. The true paradigm shift is that fans see how well Nick is at running the offense. Meanwhile, Jeremy Johnson is throwing the ball really well. We see how good he can be, but you also know how good Nick is at running the offense. He’s grown as a passer. Everybody that’s scrutinizing every little thing now, I don’t think that’s the right thing to do. Let the work he’s put in play itself out for more than two games, regardless of what’s happened to this point.
“Assessing Nick’s play against San Jose State, he was slightly above 50 percent. The coaches’ expectations are perfection, so with anything less, it has to get better. In looking at some of the attempts, there was one key third down that Nick and Duke Williams had a miscommunication and the ball landed at Duke’s feet. It appeared that Nick recognized the blitz and Duke didn’t, but that’s part of the growth process.
Maybe Nick can be more accurate, but he made some nice throws - one to Duke on a corner route, a nice slant to Duke after missing him the throw before and one in particular a nice play checking down to Cameron Artis-Payne. The Nick of old would have tucked and run. Checking that ball down was small, but it was a good thing to see.
“For the bye week coming up, I think you focus on being as accurate as you can on the gimme-type routes, routes you expect to be completions. That has to continue to develop.”
Former RB Brad Lester on the running backs
“It’s hard to tell against a defense like that, but the running backs had another productive day. Of course, we were excited to see Roc Thomas. I can see him being one of the premier guys. He’s electric. Artis-Payne continued his solid play, and while Corey Grant didn’t bust a long one, he worked the edges nicely and was patient getting upfield and not running himself to the boundary too quickly.
“On Roc, you don’t have to say much about the fumble. It happens. He’s so young, I can imagine he felt really bad. You tell him welcome to college football and don’t do it again. He’ll be fine. He’s too talented not to learn from his mistake.
“On Artis-Payne, he seemed to bounce his runs outside the tackles more on Saturday. He was productive and he looks quicker than last year, but as I said last week, I sometimes wish he was more patient. I think he has great feet and is ready to cut, but he can be patient. He made the plays, but there are times when bouncing it outside too much will hurt you if it becomes a habit. The top-tier SEC defenses won’t allow that. One thing I always loved about Tre Mason was he stuck his nose in there and moved forward and got his yards. He rarely lost yards by bouncing runs outside.”
Former WR Jeris McIntyre on the receivers
“There weren’t too many big plays in the passing game this week. Duke Williams had some nice catches and Ricardo Louis caught a touchdown on a well-designed play, but there wasn’t much testing of the San Jose State secondary. One thing that stood out was Duke’s and Nick’s miscommunication on the hot route, where it seemed that Duke didn’t see the blitz coming and Nick did, resulting in the incompletion. That’s part of the learning process for Duke. Against LSU, Alabama, Georgia and other talented and aggressive defenses, you have to be on the same page with Nick or bad things will happen.
“I actually thought they missed Sammie Coates some. They tried to stretch the field with Ricardo, but the success didn’t come. I think Sammie brings an added dimension to the receivers that is more obvious when he isn’t out there.”
Former OL Cole Cubelic on the offensive line
“These guys are gaining an understanding of the expectations. They are still having some issues on getting to the second level. I think some defenses are playing more men in the box, more five-man fronts, more looks, so they have to adjust. But I’d like to see more second-level blocking. That’s something Greg Robinson was great at. The pass protection has looked good, but they have to work on finishing across the board. One guy not finishing is the difference in good runs and touchdown runs. They aren’t great yet, but they seem to have their assignments down and the understanding is good, so that’s a good start for this new group.
“Heading into the off week, working on depth would add lots of value. I really like Xavier Dampeer when he gets in. I think Auburn would be OK with him. Braden Smith looks good, but he’s got a ways to go on the technique department. When he gets his hands on somebody, he’s going to be good. I think you go into the week with some extra time and work on developing depth and emphasizing finishing and pad level.”

Monday Morning Quarterback, Game 2: The defense
Here’s how three former Auburn standouts saw the defense in Saturday’s 59-13 victory over San Jose State at Jordan-Hare Stadium:
Former DL Bret Eddins on the defensive line
“I thought they played much better than Week 1. They threw the ball plenty, but we had our fair share of pressures, sacks and hurries. Overall, it was good job. Montravius Adams showed that he’s improving. He’s just a sophomore, but he dominated much of that game against San Jose State. We need more of that from him, and he needs to continue to grow this season. He has immense talent, and that’s what it takes to win championships in the SEC. He has to play like a man every week from here on out.
“We played lots of defensive linemen. I saw lots of new names playing much of the fourth quarter, and that’s pivotal. Depth is paramount on the defensive line, and we played it right. I thought the pass rush was improved, also, from Week 1. We still aren’t killing it off the edge, but there were times when all four created a rush by twisting and staying active. We don’t have another Dee Ford, at least not yet. So, that edge rush isn’t going to be there unless Carl Lawson comes back, and we aren’t sure what he’s capable of in his second season.
“With this off week, it’s all about Adams staying confident and figuring out the best option to rush off the edge. How do we free up LaDarius Owens or Cassanova McKinzy?
Former DB Rob Pate on the defensive backs
“I think the biggest positive was turnovers. You can tell they make that a priority. It wasn’t too long ago that Auburn had one interception in an entire season. That’s a positive. The safeties tackled well in run support from what I saw. They played better and weren’t lost. I was a little disappointed in the big play they allowed that resulted in a touchdown. I thought the corner and safety fell asleep. I was shocked that their receiver was able to outrun Derrick Moncrief’s angle down the sideline. We have to sure up the guys that continue to run free. We have corners with their eyes in the backfield, biting on double moves. They just have to be more disciplined.
“I’ve seen a lot of our corners playing outside man technique and expecting help in the middle, and it doesn’t come. The safeties can’t get to everyone, so the corners have to play tighter. The interception Jermaine Whitehead made, he was reading the quarterback and he jumped that pass. That’s great. We have to tighten things up. I’d say the communication has to be worked on in the off week. That’s where most of the breakdowns seem to be coming. You still have Moncrief and Rudy Ford, two young safeties that are learning. Jonathan Jones is still learning and gaining experience, along with Trovon Reed. Communication and hand placement need to continue to improve.”
Former LB Antarrious Williams on the linebackers
“Holding a team to 65 yards on about 40 carries is really good. Overall, Kris Frost and Cassanova McKinzy played better than last week. I could see improvement. Frost started strong and had an early tackle for loss. I think he plays better in space and against teams that allow more space, versus Arkansas, who is running right at you. Frost is better against teams that spread it out, so he played well and moved well in and out of space. Against teams like Texas A&M, Ole Miss and others, Frost should perform well - he needs to.
“Obviously, the play of Montravius Adams and Gabe Wright helps everything for the linebackers. The defensive line play is everything. Adams was active and disruptive, and that frees up the linebackers. Just like an offensive line opening holes for a running back, it starts with the line and they held linemen off the linebackers better than in Week 1.”

Gus does like to play fast pace, but generally not as quick as a lot of similar teams. I imagine your guys will be used to faster.

I can't answer that because like I mentioned above I haven't seen any of your games. Sometime today I will watch some on WatchESPN. But even without having seen any, I will be shocked if you guys can stop our offense. No one has been able to even slow it down since Malzahn took over. The area that concerns me is OUR defense. While talented, they are young and prone to mistakes. I think we will be seeing a shootout.

Let me help you out since you have no concept of football being played outside the SEC-SEC-SEC.
The reason nobody can stop your offense is because you generally play 3 cupcakes and a conference schedule (SEC-SEC-SEC) made up of teams that don't play defense. For example, Georgia shows up on your field and promptly scores almost 40, then mustered a grand total of 19 against a bunch of slow white boys from Nebraska a few weeks later.
You put up a grand total of 28 points (pre-miracle) on that sieve of a defense that Bama plays. (OU torched em for 45) But, ESPN tells us that we just can't compete and they're the worldwide leader in sports, so I'll just take their word for it.

This is a message board for K-State and they have a right to be proud of their program. They have a great history, and like us have had their "issues" to deal with. I am not taking a lot of this seriously - these guys are having fun. That is what fan boards are for. I have to admit that their "Civil War" thread is a funny idea knowing that they are trying to troll the trolls. I could teach courses on The War of Northern Aggression, without notes, but I am not going to get mixed up in that! lol

By Federal Law Article IV, section 2, statute 426, no member of the conference is allowed to chant anything other than SEC-SEC-SEC when playing a team from a lower division of FBS such as Big 12, Pac 12, or big 10.
Obviously you are not aware of the antipathy between Alabama and Auburn. I thought it was the funniest thing in the world when Louisiana Monroe beat Bama in Saban's first year.
Oh, good then!! We have something in common... I was laughing at you guys two years ago when ULM took you to overtime in Jordan-Hare. HUGE Warhawks fan that day...
Thank God y'all had Alabama A&M and New Mexico State on the schedule that year since Vandy and Mississippi State broke it off in your boys.

True statements. It was a painful season to be sure. But it worked out in the end; we got rid of Chizik and got Malzahn.
About Miss State though, they ALWAYS play us tough no matter how bad they might be, and that year we would have struggled against a pack of slightly angry Boy Scouts.

Makes sense, since y'all are both middle of the pack SEC-SEC-SEC teams... On the other hand, I find it really cute how all the AU fans act like they're some premier program after being a few miracle plays from being 8-5 last year and then got boat-raced in the 2H of the BCSCG against an ACC team.
Hell, one of our lower half Big12 teams (OSU) almost beat the defending champs in Dallas after graduating 45 lettermen.

I can understand how you would see it that way. Last season I was hoping for 7 wins and was shocked that we did as well as we did. And I agree that luck took us farther than it should have, but that was last year. At the same time I was picking this year to be OUR year based on player development and QB who actually knew the system going into the season.
-
I see a MINIMUM of 3 losses on your schedule this year, and possibly as many as five... Same ol' Auburn.
I'll grant ya that the 3-9 was a strange blip, but historically y'all are a 7-5/8-4 type team with the occasional 10+ win season.
I was surprised in researching this game earlier this summer to find out that Auburn has only back to back 10 win seasons ONCE (88-89) in the entire history of the program.

That is certainly possible; that is why they play the games. I will say though that this year's team is significantly better than last year's.

they've also won 3 conference champions in the last 10 years. kansas state has won 2 in the last 75.

And you know this, how?? You've played exactly nobody so far...
You lost three 1st rd NFL draft picks plus another key part of your OL to injury and the already sieve-like (#86 nationally LY) defense looks to be weaker up front than before.
-
both of the teams auburn has played so far are probably better than either team kansas state has played.
also... what 3 first rounders did auburn lose?

The drop off from those 1st rounders is negligible - we have excellent players moving up to those positions. Believe it or not, the DL looks better than it did at the same point last year.
I am basing that opinion not on what we have seen on the field so far, I am basing it on other factors:
1) With the exception of Robinson, the rest of the O-Line is the same as last year, and Robinson's replacement is a stud even though he had to take a few years off to fight leukemia. (He originally signed in 2010 and is now a Sophomore)
2) MUCH improved skill levels at the receiver positions.
3) QB actually had time to learn the system. Last year he first showed up in time for Fall camp.
4) More depth at RB
As to the defense, I believe it is at about the same skill level as last year at this time.

False. Tech will ROLL pig aggy this weekend and if you really don't understand just how bad SJSU is, you truly know less than I'd thought about CFB and I didn't think you knew much.
also... Tre Mason, Dee Ford and the big OT... Perhaps one slipped to rd 2 and i'm not remembering correctly?

SJ State is much better than SFA, no question about that. Iowa State is probably worse than Arkansas this year, but this weekend will tell us more about that.
BUT
none of that really matters.

True.
I think our biggest loos on the offense was Jay Prosch who went in the 6th. He was a super stud H-Back. His replacement isn't as good of a blocker but has better hands.

Totally agree in the big scheme of things, but that's what the SEC-SEC-SEC people always fall back on... the false rhetoric spewed by E$PN about SOS. Also agree that SJSU is better than SFA.
I think ISU would beat pig aggy in Ames, and lose to em in Fayettville. Would be a toss-up on a neutral field IYAM, tho. Still say Tech rolls arky this weekend...

I agree that Tech will beat Arky this year, but the first half will be fun to watch. Arky definitely has improved over last year but still lack the depth to go for the whole 60 mins.

is this worth the read or is it just bucket and an auburn fan going back and forth(read the first page only)?

Just so I am clear: the SEC is wildly overrated. Was last year, and is this year. The SEC (potentially) has about three very good teams: Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia, and two "goodish" teams: Texas A&M and LSU. The rest is interchangeable mediocrity. The idea that being in a particular conference makes one good is laughable but a good con.
-

I don't know of anybody who said that a particular team is good BECAUSE it is in the SEC. For instance, Kentucky and Vandy are yearly doormats although they occasionally make it into the Toilet Bowl. Miss State and Ole Miss are traditionally mid-level teams although they seem to be better than usual this year, but it is too early to tell at this point.

San Jose State went 6-6 last year in an almost respectable MWC. They scored 62 on Fresno State. They aren't good, but they aren't anywhere near as bad as SFA.

Florida has played 1 game against a nobody, but at least they scored 65 points which is a lot better than you can say for them last year. They have a talented roster. Just need to execute it. They also aren't decimated by injuries right now compared to last season when they were.
Why do you think Ole Miss is not a good team? They have recruited well. Last year they were alright and all indications are they are better this season. They easily covered their spread in both games they have played so far... so if anything, perhaps they have been underrated thus far.
South Carolina beat East Carolina more handily than Kansas State beat Iowa State. ECU is better than ISU.

Help me understand your strawman argument and infatuation with comparing current SOS as it pertains to SFA, please. Y'all are playing a virtually identical quality OOC opponent in Samford later in the year, so I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to prove?
My point is this - All three teams are better than SFA, big deal. ISU is every bit of Arky's equal and would beat SJSU fairly handily THIS YEAR. I don't even know why you are trying to have this argument... you and all the other Allbarn fans have made it pretty clear that you are unfamiliar with any team that isn't revered and glorified due to association with the SEC!-SEC!-SEC!

Auburn linebackers make strides together
For junior Auburn linebackers Cassanova McKinzy and Kris Frost, where one goes, the other is sure to follow. Or at least try.
McKinzy is Auburn’s starting middle linebacker. Frost is the starting weakside linebacker. In last Saturday’s 59-13 beating of San Jose State, they combined for 16 tackles, a team-high 10 by McKinzy.
“I feel like Cassanova and I have always had really good chemistry with how we play,” Frost said. “We try to help each other out. One thing we joke about is how every time I make a tackle, he’s right behind me and every time he makes a tackle I’m right behind him.”
Together, McKinzy says, they have big plans for what is to come as the season unfolds.
“We’ve got really good chemistry,” McKinzy said. “I think we’re one of the best linebacker duos in the conference. We are just trying to succeed at that. We are there to pick each other up.”
The Tigers don't play again until they go to Kansas State on Sept. 18.
Defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson, who coaches the linebackers, says they made progress from the season-opening from the first game, a 45-21 victory over Arkansas, to the second.
“They made a lot of plays, had a lot of production,” Johnson said. “I was a little disappointed in a couple of missed assignments. We called a couple of blitzes they didn’t execute correctly, but they made a lot of tackles. I think as a pair it was one of their better games.”
Behind McKinzy and Frost, the linebacker situation is fluid. Junior Anthony Swain, who missed spring practice after running afoul of head coach Gus Malzahn, is the first option off the bench. Freshman Tre’ Williams is next, but Johnson say he struggled against San Jose State.
“Tre’ made some mistakes the other night,” Johnson said. “He wasn’t himself. I think he is going to really be a fine player. He had a little better first game than he did a second game. I hope he’s not getting that freshmanitis. … I think he’s going to be fine. He just made a couple of key mistakes and I had to pull him out.”

Kansas State athletic director John Currie says the school's September 18th against Auburn could be the largest crowd in school history according to a report by the Wichita Eagle.
“This will likely be our greatest attended game ever. We actually have not sold standing room-only tickets, because we know our student section will be as full as it has ever been that night. Student attendance is highest on weekdays.”
K-State head coach LHC Bill Snyder has never been a fan of playing marquee out of conference games and there was speculation that the Wildcats would back out of the game.
“Some people thought we wouldn’t play the game, but we never hesitated,” Currie said. “Our fans tell me all the time how much fun they had going to Auburn (a 23-13 loss in 2007). It would have been tough not to play that game here. It’s too good an opportunity for our football program and our university.”

i talked to a bunch of students, probably 28 or so, only 1 of them is going to this game, and they all have season tickets. I asked the others how much they were selling their tickets for, and most of them said 10-15$, but the majority couldn't find anyone that wanted to buy them. Someone in Manhattan probably can confirm, but a friend said there is a large stack of tickets sitting on the counter at a Taco Johns, anyone can take them, but no one has?

“This will likely be our greatest attended game ever. We actually have not sold standing room-only tickets, because we know our student section will be as full as it has ever been that night. Student attendance is highest on weekdays.”
K-State head coach LHC LHC LHC Bill Snyder has never been a fan of playing marquee out of conference games and there was speculation that the Wildcats would back out of the game.
Don't know why Currie always says this...
BTW - I have 15 tickets to the Auburn game. Front Row, 50-yard line. I was excited about going, but it turns out they moved my weekly scrapbooking night from Wednesday to Thursday that week. Asking $5 for all tickets OBO. Thx.

I've got news for you, pal. Nobody just strolls into LHC LHC Bill Snyder #Family Stadium and leaves with a W. Auburn's in for a dog fight.
If the Auburn faithful that are on here think that is just bragging from someone that has drank too much of the purple kool aid. Maybe they should go to YOUTUBE and search for the "2003 BIG XII Championship Game" video and see how a LHC B. Snyder coached team plays when they are a 3 TD DOG to the "GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED" on a neutral field. ;)

AUBURN – Like the head coach and the school as a whole, Kansas State plays a no-frills defense. And that defense, Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee said Tuesday, will pose a serious challenge.
The message has gone out to Auburn players.
“We’ve been preaching to them the last two days that we have to execute at a very high level,” Lashlee said. “The way they play, they are very sound, they tackle well, they don’t beat themselves, they don’t give up big plays. They make you earn everything you get, and that’s why they’ve been so successful.”
The No. 5 Tigers (2-0) and No. 20 Wildcats (2-0) will play on Thursday night, Sept. 18, at LHC Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan. The man for whom the stadium, which seats 50,000, is named still walks the sideline. And the largest crowd in school history is expected.
The Tigers, with an open date Saturday, practiced Tuesday and will practice Wednesday and Thursday. They’ll take Friday and Saturday off before returning Sunday to begin final preparations.
“It’s big early in the year,” Lashlee said. “You have a feel for the new personnel. You have a feel for how this team is coming together. It’s still a different team than last year. You just try to have everybody as healthy as they can be.
“This is the week we have to win. We don’t play anybody. We have to win these three days and get much, much better.”
Quarterback Nick Marshall will have to operate in a loud and hostile environment, one that has gotten the best of some of the top quarterbacks in the Big 12.
“It definitely affects you,” Lashlee said. “Fortunately for us, Nick has played. A lot of our guys have played. We don’t have a young team. It’s like going into any hostile SEC environment. All I’ve heard is Manhattan is the toughest place to play in the Big 12.
"We have to be focused. We’ve been fortunate we haven’t had any false start penalties in the first two games. You attention to detail and your awareness really has to raise its level when you are on the road in a hostile environment.”
A year ago, Gus Malzahn’s first Auburn football team was trying to find itself. It eventually did, winning the SEC championship and playing in the BCS Championship Game. It’s different now.
“I think it will be a good measuring stick,” Lashlee said. “You’re going on the road and they sold it out because you’re the one they want to knock off. Boy, they have a good football team. This is not the situation we were in last year. How mature are our guys? How do we handle it?”

Sarcasm is "a sharp, bitter, or cutting expression or remark; a bitter gibe or taunt."[1][2] Sarcasm may employ ambivalence,[3] although sarcasm is not necessarily ironic.[4] "The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal inflections".[5] The sarcastic content of a statement will be dependent upon the context in which it appears.[6]
Origin of the term
The word comes from the Greek ????????? (sarkasmos) which is taken from ????????? meaning "to tear flesh, bite the lip in rage, sneer".[1]
It is first recorded in English in 1579, in an annotation to The Shepheardes Calender by Edmund Spenser:
Tom piper, an ironicall Sarcasmus, spoken in derision of these rude wits, whych ...[1]
However, the word sarcastic, meaning "Characterized by or involving sarcasm; given to the use of sarcasm; bitterly cutting or caustic", doesn't appear until 1695.[1]
Usage
In its entry on irony, Dictionary.com describes sarcasm thus:
In sarcasm, ridicule or mockery is used harshly, often crudely and contemptuously, for destructive purposes. It may be used in an indirect manner, and have the form of irony, as in "What a fine musician you turned out to be!," "It's like you're a whole different person now...," and "Oh... Well then thanks for all the first aid over the years!" or it may be used in the form of a direct statement, "You couldn't play one piece correctly if you had two assistants." The distinctive quality of sarcasm is present in the spoken word and manifested chiefly by vocal inflection ...[7]
Distinguishing sarcasm from banter, and referring to the use of irony in sarcasm, Bousfield writes [8] that sarcasm is:
The use of strategies which, on the surface appear to be appropriate to the situation, but are meant to be taken as meaning the opposite in terms of face management. That is, the utterance which appears, on the surface, to maintain or enhance the face of the recipient actually attacks and damages the face of the recipient. ... sarcasm is an insincere form of politeness which is used to offend one's interlocutor.
John Haiman writes: "There is an extremely close connection between sarcasm and irony, and literary theorists in particular often treat sarcasm as simply the crudest and least interesting form of irony." Also, he adds:
First, situations may be ironic, but only people can be sarcastic. Second, people may be unintentionally ironic, but sarcasm requires intention. What is essential to sarcasm is that it is overt irony intentionally used by the speaker as a form of verbal aggression.[9]
While, Henry Watson Fowler writes:
Sarcasm does not necessarily involve irony. But irony, or the use of expressions conveying different things according as they are interpreted, is so often made the vehicle of sarcasm ... The essence of sarcasm is the intention of giving pain by (ironical or other) bitter words.[10]
Understanding
Understanding the subtlety of this usage requires second-order interpretation of the speaker's or writer's intentions; different parts of the brain must work together to understand sarcasm. This sophisticated understanding can be lacking in some people with certain forms of brain damage, dementia and autism (although not always),[11] and this perception has been located by MRI in the right parahippocampal gyrus.[12][13] Research has shown that people with damage in the prefrontal cortex have difficulty understanding non-verbal aspects of language like tone, Richard Delmonico, a neuropsychologist at the University of California, Davis, told an interviewer.[14] Such research could help doctors distinguish between different types of neurodegenerative diseases, such as frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease, according to David Salmon, a neuroscientist at the University of California, San Diego.[14]
In William Brant's Critique of Sarcastic Reason,[15] sarcasm is hypothesized to develop as a cognitive and emotional tool that adolescents use in order to test the borders of politeness and truth in conversation. Sarcasm recognition and expression both require the development of understanding forms of language, especially if sarcasm occurs without a cue or signal (e.g., a sarcastic tone or rolling the eyes). Sarcasm is argued to be more sophisticated than lying because lying is expressed as early as the age of three, but sarcastic expressions take place much later during development (Brant, 2012). According to Brant (2012, 145-6), sarcasm is
(a) form of expression of language often including the assertion of a statement that is disbelieved by the expresser (e.g., where the sentential meaning is disbelieved by the expresser), although the intended meaning is different from the sentence meaning. The recognition of sarcasm without the accompaniment of a cue develops around the beginning of adolescence or later. Sarcasm involves the expression of an insulting remark that requires the interpreter to understand the negative emotional connotation of the expresser within the context of the situation at hand. Irony, contrarily, does not include derision, unless it is sarcastic irony. The problems with these definitions and the reason why this dissertation does not thoroughly investigate the distinction between irony and sarcasm involves the ideas that: (1) people can pretend to be insulted when they are not or pretend not to be insulted when they are seriously offended; (2) an individual may feel ridiculed directly after the comment and then find it humorous or neutral thereafter; and (3) the individual may not feel insulted until years after the comment was expressed and considered.
Cultural perspectives on sarcasm vary widely with more than a few cultures and linguistic groups finding it offensive to varying degrees. Thomas Carlyle despised it: "Sarcasm I now see to be, in general, the language of the devil; for which reason I have long since as good as renounced it".[16] Fyodor Dostoyevsky, on the other hand, recognized in it a cry of pain: Sarcasm, he said, was "usually the last refuge of modest and chaste-souled people when the privacy of their soul is coarsely and intrusively invaded."[17] RFC 1855, a collection of guidelines for Internet communications, includes a warning to be especially careful with it as it "may not travel well." A professional translator has advised that international business executives "should generally avoid sarcasm in intercultural business conversations and written communications" because of the difficulties in translating sarcasm.[18]
Vocal indication
In English, sarcasm is often telegraphed with kinesic/prosodic cues[19] by speaking more slowly and with a lower pitch. Similarly, Dutch uses a lowered pitch; sometimes to such an extent that the expression is reduced to a mere mumble. But other research shows that there are many ways that real speakers signal sarcastic intentions. One study found that in Cantonese, sarcasm is indicated by raising the fundamental frequency of one's voice.[20]
Punctuation
Main article: Irony punctuation
Though in the English language there is no standard accepted method to denote irony or sarcasm in written conversation, several forms of punctuation have been proposed. Among the oldest and frequently attested are the percontation point—furthered by Henry Denham in the 1580s—and the irony mark—furthered by Alcanter de Brahm in the 19th century. Both of these marks were represented visually by a ? backwards question mark (unicode U+2E2E). Each of these punctuation marks are primarily used to indicate that a sentence should be understood as ironic, but not necessarily designate sarcasm that is not ironic. By contrast, more recent proposals, such as the snark mark, or the use of a following tilde are specifically intended to denote sarcasm rather than irony.[21] A bracketed exclamation point or question mark as well as scare quotes are also sometimes used to express irony or ironic sarcasm.[22]
In certain Ethiopic languages, sarcasm and unreal phrases are indicated at the end of a sentence with a sarcasm mark called temherte slaq, a character that looks like an inverted exclamation point ¡.[23] The usage directly parallels John Wilkins' 1668 proposal to use the inverted exclamation point as an irony mark.[24] A proposal by Asteraye Tsigie and Daniel Yacob in 1999 to include the temherte slaq in unicode was unsuccessful.[25]

Rob Pate: A solid effort
I saw a very solid effort last Saturday in Auburn’s 59-13 victory over San Jos State, an opponent that challenged maturity and put the onus on the Tigers to play inspired football.-
At the beginning of any season I am always on the search for signs of alarming concern - selfishness, mental weakness, lack of effort and fight, poor fundamentals, apathy, division - all traits capable of taking the most talented teams and destroying all hope for success. Often, these repugnant characteristics do not manifest until difficulties arise.
When times are good, we learn little about our character. When times are tough, our character is revealed. That's what made the Arkansas test in week one so eye-opening. A challenge was presented; the response was undeniable. We had a team with resolve, grit and fight. That will always be enough for me.
San Jose State was not talented enough or deep enough to present the same physical challenge Arkansas did. The test the Spartans offered was a mental trial in preparation, consistency and the opportunity to display the maturity of a team that respects all opponents and plays above the level of the competition as opposed to in-sync with it.
Yes, there were some miscues and areas that will require attention and improvement, but this team dismantled San Jose State in workmanlike fashion. We can quibble about minutia and nitpick plays certain individuals should have made, but the reality is this team ran roughshod over an inferior opponent in a manner of which we should be proud.
What I liked:’
* Red zone defense. I was not surprised to see San Jose State move the ball between the 20s. We played base, vanilla defense predominately and rotated several guys into the mix. San Jose State entered the red zone three times, never scoring a touchdown. That's enormous improvement compared to Week 1, when Arkansas was 3-for-3 on scoring touchdowns in the red zone. Playing superb, stingy defense when it matters most will play a critical role in this team playing for championships.
* Offensive line play. A nice continuity seems to have developed along the front as this unit has manhandled two consecutive defensive fronts. The competition will rise, but this group will become more cohesive and nasty as well. Quarterbacks have time. Running backs have lanes. The line of scrimmage is consistently moved forward. J.B. Grimes continues to show his worth.
* Creating turnovers. I remember a season not so long ago in which the Auburn defense went an entire season garnering but one interception. This secondary is still a work in progress, but the desire and demand for turnovers is obvious and an essential building block toward success.
* Quan Bray's punt return. Chris Davis set a very high standard last season returning punts (and field goal attempts just shy of the crossbar!). For the last several years prior to Davis, it seemed Auburn was content to just field punts and put little pressure on opposing punt teams. Gus Malzahn has not settled for mediocrity in this area. Quan has looked both comfortable and determined to improve field position and gain difficult yards to set up the offense. Glad to see him take one to the house.
* Montravius Adams. He played both fast and powerfully, overwhelming the San Jose State interior to wreak havoc on the Spartan offense. He is a special talent and Coach (Rodney) Garner continues to help him unveil that talent on Saturdays. We have lots of bodies along our defensive front, but none as capable as Adams.
* Crowd Noise. It appeared the crowd came and did its part to help energize this football team. I was hoping to not see an abundance of empty upper deck seats as the ESPN camera circled the stadium. From my vantage point, the Auburn faithful did not disappoint.
* No letdown from the backups. In years past, when the second unit entered the game, it was quite obvious. Production fell off and mistakes abounded. Not in this contest. Those guys never missed a beat, played relatively mistake free and continued the dominance the starters began.
What I disliked:
* Giving up the big play, especially to an enormous underdog, potentially lighting the fire of competition and a belief of success. Give up the short routes, make a tackle and force the underdog to go the distance without a mistake. Home run shots are forbidden.
* Loose secondary. Partly inexperience, partly poor technique, partly eyes in places they shouldn't be. Ultimately better quarterbacks will make us pay dearly if not tightened up.
* Inconsistency in the passing game. It was obvious the offense slowed when the staff decided it was time to get quarterback Nick Marshall active throwing the football. His decision making was sound, but his result was a bit erratic. As he did last season, he will get better every week, and the weapons he has around him will make sure that's the case. He dazzled with his feet but was average with his arm. Coach Malzahn knows he is capable of much more. This time last season I was ready to move on to the next guy. I didn't see promise in Nick's performances. By the end of the year he was the most dynamic quarterback in college football. I expect the same progress.
* ESPN's in-game "Film Room." I get the premise, but the forum was all wrong. Coach Jack Crowe and I do what they attempted every week with Game Day Bunker only we are smart enough to broadcast over a second screen for those that desire that level of insight. To hijack my television and reduce the game to secondary status was frustrating and the height of narcissism. I hope you voiced your disdain.
Not much to dislike about covering the spread for the 13th consecutive game and allowing countless numbers of young men the opportunity to help run Auburn's record to 2-0. I wondered how this team would respond to a physical challenge and they answered quite emphatically Week 1. I wondered if this team would respect an opponent it knew nothing about and was pleased with the retort.
Kansas State, a well-coached club, will be the next test in a hostile environment with the eyes of a nation looking on. Keep taking steps forward.

The coaches know what they're in for... The youngsters either don't get it, or don't believe it... yet.

Serious question for these "AU" supporters.
How much $$ did Nick Marshall's dad get out of your boosters in exchange for his commitment to "AU"? Also, is Mr. Marshall mad that we hurt his sons value by signing the JUCO QB we really wanted before he could leverage his negotiating position?
Thanks, I'll listen off the air.

This article is so rich in irony that you could cut it with a knife. I can't wait to see the responses to this one.
How do you slow down Gus Malzahn's offensive attack?
That's the question on head coach LHC LHC Bill Snyder's mind as his Kansas State Wildcats prepare to host Auburn next Thursday night in Manhattan, Kansas.
As Auburn's former coach, Gene Chizik has insight that perhaps no other college football analyst has. During an appearance on the SEC Network Wednesday, Chizik shared three keys Kansas State needs to focus on if its expects to be successful defensively against the Tigers:
1. FOCUS ON THE TAILBACKS
"I don't think there's any question they're going to have a 1,000-yard rusher in this offense every single year as long as (they) have a quarterback runner as a threat," Chizik said.
2. DEFENDING THE QUARTERBACK WITH JUST ONE MAN DOESN'T WORK
"Particularly a defensive lineman on the zone read -- he's got no chance," Chizik said. "You always have to have what we call one and a half players. That's a half of a defensive lineman and a second-level defender that's always got to be there on the quarterback on the zone read."
3. AVOID EYE DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS
"You see it every week," he added. "They take their eyes off their keys, and now here comes the play action because everyone's so geared to stop the run that you see these vertical passing gains that go for 40, 50, 60, 70-yard touchdowns."
Chizik didn't share any predictions for the game as the segment ended, but indicated Snyder has his work cut out for him.
"No one's figured it out yet, but good luck, Bill."
One comment following this article stuck out to me:
"Have Gus report to Chiz. That'll slow it waaaaaaay down."
