Hopefully this will be as great of thread as my kids are great at soccer!
ITT, you can give updates about kids' sports, but you'd better not try to one up my awesome soccer reports!
Also, no incessant whining about the coaches, Fedor already started a thread about that, and it flamed out.

dobberjr. update:
Came home from middle school practice (grades 6-8)..."hey dad, I made the starting 11."
Dobber: ":insert Vince Lombardi speech mixed with Cliff Huxtable:"
What does this mean for gE? Now, in addition to Ninja updates, you will also be getting Angels updates!
Gonna win 'em all!
thats grades 6 thru 8, not 6 thru :cool smiley face: (if that's how it's showing up on your tapatalk)
Gonna win 'em all!
I don't think you all understand that dobberjr is a 6th grader.
Also, they are called the Crusaders, not the Angels.

dobber family weekend update:
dobberjr had the first game and it was played on a field that appeared to be a former training ground for the Egyptian bomb defusing squad.
It was a game against the team that jr had just played with as a guest player 2 weeks ago. A great rivalry over the past couple of years. It was a shaky start that saw the Ninjas down 0-2 late in the first before a solid effort from 15 went off a defenders leg who was trying to clear the ball. The result was an own goal that pulled the ninjas to within one.
Early in the second the diablos scored a third and sloppy play by the ninjas appeared to have them doomed. Near the 50th minute (they play 2 30 min halves) one of our new players (we picked some twins in the offseason) scored his first goal as a ninja. It was a real piece of work and had the parents excited for things to come the rest of the year. 4 minutes later, the coach's boy (who is not fat and slow) had the equalizer on a thru ball. Shortly thereafter, dobber jr had his first real opportunity on a charge from the wing. After beating his man he appeared to be going in for a certain goal, but his shot went right at the goalie while the open net to either side taunted dobber jr. In the last minute dobber jr had one more opportunity from the 18. If was headed toward the lower corner but bent left and went right by the pole. The game ended in a sloppy 3-3 tie.
Dobberette's game was late in the afternoon. Ominous clouds hung over the field threatening rain which never came. The Lightning also appeared to not show up for the game and they, too found themselves down 0-2 midway through the first. But then a great and glorious thing happened. As the ball was being kicked around like a sack if potatoes in front of the other teams goal, the goalie thought the ball was going left but it got deflected to the right. Standing there, 4 yards from the goal, was dobberette, and she made slow work of the goal by barely rolling it to ths back of the net! 1-2! Lightning scored! Dobberette scored the first goal for the newly formed team! She had a couple more opportunities in the next 2 minutes, but her dad has evidently not spent enough time running drills in the back yard because her foot eye coordination leaves a lot to be desired! The Storm (opponent) scored another goal late in the first and it was 1-3 at half. The lightning scored early in the second and then again shortly after that and if was tied at three. With 5 minutes left, the lightning continued to strike and took the lead for the first time. The final nail came with 2 minutes left and the Lightning came away with a 5-3 win. I found out that our head coach is all about winning. I will update with stories if applicable. He is also a Jayhawk. I am one of the assistants. Ette's greatest improvements in this game were her understanding of staying between the ball and the goal on defense and her overall reaction to coaching instructions as the were being communicated. I was very proud of how hard she played.
At the start of her game, ette said, "Coach dobber, Mrsdobber said if I score a goal we'd have ice cream tonight." ( Mrsdobber doesn't understand that you can play an outstanding game of soccer without scoring a goal).
Anyway, after dinner we were scooping out ice cream and toddler dobber said, "can I have some candy in my ice cream?" I told him that we were out of candy, and he said, "dad-gum". We all laughed and I knew I'd share that with my gE buds. I also realized that toddler dobber needs to stop watching Cars movies or he is going to be a redneck.
Gonna win 'em all!

You know you read it. Don't lie sunny, don't lie.
Gonna win 'em all!
I read them when they're shorter
It was the start of the season. jr played a rival and tied. Ette is on a new team and scored the first goal in what led to a 5-3 come from behind win. Toddler might be a redneck.
Gonna win 'em all!

@fedor. Halftime speech down 1-3: "Who thinks we can't win this game? If you think we can't win this game, then I don't want you on the field!" One girl was confused and held up her hand. Probably 2nd best player on the team...led to some awkwardness for a few seconds.

Angels won 8-0. Dobberjr played one of the middle defenders in the back line of four.
Gonna win 'em all!
(Yes, I didn't even know what the school mascot was for a little while...CLASSIC SLOBBER!)

Lots to update. Rough weekend with regard to wins and losses. Great weekend in regards to squawk 'winning is the most important thing' coach!
Gonna win 'em all!
-
The fighting dobberettes played 3. Got smoked 8-1, tied 2-2, and lost 4-1. They played better each game and the addition of the final girl will be huge. She hadn't played with the girls until this weekend and she will be a top 4 player. Man, these girls get excited when they score!
Squawk coach was very upset that we were getting smoked in the first game and we had a really bad series of possessions where the girls were just awful...he ripped his VISOR from his head and threw it on the ground and tried to kick it while storming on the sideline. I smiled because I knew that was going directly on gE.com.
Gonna win 'em all!

The dobberjrs were asked to play up a division in the tourney, and coach said sure. Hoping to make it a learning opportunity for the lads. They got smoke 8-1 and 7-0 on Saturday. On Sunday morning, dobberjr was pretty down, knowing that they had been beaten badly and had no opportunity to bring home any hardware. So I pulled out a pretty great motivational speech on the way to the game. I ended with "the will to win is much greater than the skill to win." Oh man, you could see it in dobberjr's eyes that I had really Lomardi'd the hell out of his mind. They looked much better in warmups and had fun from the first whistle whilst really playing hard and aggressive. Started out 2-0, but then gave up 2 midway through the second. Final score came on a corner where dobberjr crashed and elevated and then snapped his head at the airborne ball and sent it into the upper 90 for what proved to be the winning goal. Guys, this was a really high level soccer play that many of you won't be able to appreciate. It was the most excited he has ever been on a soccer field.
Toddlerdobber and Mrsdobber refrained from watching soccer this weekend due to the heat.
Gonna win 'em all!

You guys are the best. I'm just glad to know that somebody is reading this. It is hard to paint all of these pretty pictures with just words.

Is dobberjr the next American footie superstar?! GREAT JOB DOBBERJR!

dobber, you sound like a great dad.
-
dobber, you sound like a great dad.
I don't know about that, but I usually try.
You realize that I am reporting as a father and not a soccer aficionado. For example, what I reported on the header is exactly how I saw it. However, the reality may have been completely different. dobberjr may have tripped over another kid's foot and the ball accidentally smacked right off his face and into the goal. I don't think that is what happened and I didn't notice any swelling in the facial area of dobberjr, but you never know!

Thursday night had the Angels back in action.
For those of you just joining this thread, this is the team associated with the Middle School that dobberjr attends. He is currently the only starting 6th grader and he plays against these giant 8th graders and just mushes the ever living crap out of them.
Anyway, dobberjr started again and played one of the middle defenders (is that what the position is called? In the back line there are 4 defenders and he plays one of the positions in the middle of those four. Also, how good do you have to be to play there? Is it like right field in baseball or shortstop?) for most of the first half and about 5 minutes of the second. I really don't know enough to tell you if he did a good job or not. The Angels won 8-1 and coach sat most of the starters for about half of the game.
Next game is Sunday! :impatient: :excited:

Thanks! and no, I wasn't gE'ing when I asked that question. So now I know!

Well friends...
Lets start out with dobberette this week. It was a late afternoon game on Sunday, which played out to a very exciting 0-0 tie. dobberette had the best look at a goal of anyone, but the excitement of the moment was a bit more than she could handle and she was not able to get enough foot on the ball to get it past the out of position goalie. She continues to make some progress, but she is not the strongest soccer player on the team. The really great things about these games are the Squawk head coach comments. He repeatedly says things that the girls are all like, "WTF?" The funny one yesterday was:
-Natilie is going to pull a double shift.
The girls were brow furrowed and Natalie starts running off the field.
Also, I really mushed him yesterday. One of the assistant coaches said that we should play some music during warmups. The other assistant said something like, "Get the AC/DC blaring!"
I looked at the head coach and said, "I will not let my daughter warm up to Thunderstruck."
-
dobberjr played on the really shitty field again. I don't think coach is going to let them play there again. Image trying to play in a corn field.
They won 5-1. dobberjr had a pretty sweet score starting at the 18 and moving forward about 2 yards and getting one person to miss, then used his right to step over and pull the ball to the right and made a second guy miss then faked left and played it out to his right to beat the GIRL on the other team and the goalie was pretty crossed up, so the shot from there was pretty easy. This was the first time we played against a girl, but if she was my daughter, she'd have her own thread on gE for soccer stuff, because she was pretty fast, tough, and skilled. I may have to get her name just so my friends on gE can monitor her progress as she readies for Women's WC in '24 (is that the right year?)
jr. did get beat on d near the mid field which ended up resulting in the loan goal scored against, so I really coached him up on getting better every day and stuff after the game.
toddlerdobber is much more interested in any dogs that are at the games and wants me to go pet every dog with him.
mrsdobber: "Was that a good play?" "Was that a good play?" "Was that a good play?" "Who made that shot?"
-
I would be interested in hearing more about toddlerdobber's dog petting adventures. Does he have a favorite kind of puppy, or just all dogs?
-

I'm so glad you asked!
He really loves all dogs, and unless they are really big, like bigger than 80 lbs, then he calls them little babies! The dog that had his attention yesterday was some sort of retriever pup that is about 4 months old. toddlerdobber didn't even want to watch his big brother play. Once he finished his snack, it was all about the baby puppy!
Now that I know what you are looking for, I'll be sure to give this the attention it deserves!

The Angels have a game and I am not there! :frown:
I will try to get Mrsdobber to explain the plays to me, but I can already tell you what she is going to say.
"dobberjr didn't score any. He just stood on the defensive side of the field."
Mrsdobber was a pretty big studette Mom today. She took 3 other Angels, along with dobberjr, dobberette, and toddlerdobber to the game. She already told me that dobberjr had his ipod sync in with the minivan stereo and the boys were jamming out on the way to the match.
-
Maybe you could get Mrsdobber a gopro to record the action and upload to YouTube.

I may have to look into this. Here is all I got from Mrsdobber:
"It was a 0-0 tie. dobberjr played the whole game. He defended really well."
We'll see if dobberjr gives me more information when he gets out of the shower.
-
from dobberjr:
Dad, my best stop was on a through ball that just cleared my head. I turned and just sprinted as fast as I could and I caught the guy within like 15 yards and cleared it out. I also cleared out a free kick that was deflected and was heading right towards the corner. I just smashed it all the way to midfield.
-

-
Mrsdobber: I missed most of the game. Toddlerdobber fell over or into something 3 different times and he was crying.
me:
-
Dobber is in the prime of his life man, so great to have a front row seat for all the action.

Wow, am I really this late with the update? Lots of dobber family soccer news and two more games yet this week!
This past weekend saw dobberjr's Ninjas easily handle another over-matched opponent. dobberjr had two nice assists, and the inside passing is really improving for the entire team. Final score was 7-2. I know tougher competition is on the way.
dobberette's weekend game wasn't as successful. They gave up two early goals and never could mount a solid attack to try to make them up. Squawk coach was really bummed out about taking the Squawk family to the Duke game on Saturday and then having the girls soccer team lose 0-2 on Sunday. At practice last night, he pulled the assistants aside and scheduled an "emergency coaches meeting" for tonight because he doesn't "want to panic, but we have to figure out how to generate some offense. Maybe we can juggle the line-up or something, but I want to address this now." These are real words spoken by a real U10 Girls Soccer coach, not some MLB Manager.
I'll report back tonight if the meeting doesn't run too late.
dobberjr's Angel team played again last night with a goal in the 55th being the winner in a 1-0 snoozefest. The field was horrible and it was near impossible to link more than one or two passes. dobberjr was happy with his play at center back and the second consecutive clean sheet by the Angels.
Toddler dobber has a buddy in town for a few days and he is now more concerned about trucks and cars. After the soccer game last night, somebody said, "Nice to see you toddler dobber!" Toddler dobber responded, "Nice to see me, too!" We all had a good
-
Thanks for the update! Sounds like a fun weekend of soccer.
-
yesterday lil sd was going up our staircase (has, like, two landings before you get to the top) and bombing his ball down to me from the first landing and then I'd lob it up to him and then he'd crawl up to the next highest landing and bomb it down to me and we were having shitloads of fun. then mrs. dave caught wind of it and shut it down because we apparently don't want him throwing everything from the second floor down to the first floor :shakesfist:
-
mrsdobber scolds me for throwing the kids' dirty clothes over the railing to be taken to the laundry room when I go back downstairs. Same reason.
But now the kids know that the little parachute men work best when you drop them rather than have to first launch them up in the air.
Does lil sd kick, shoot, or throw the ball?
Gonna win 'em all!

throw mostly. sometimes kick. hasn't got the hang of catching yet.

Guys, on Wednesday night, I spent 2 hours at the squawk coach's house discussing how we could generate more offense with a bunch of 10 year old soccer players. It was pretty great. Overall, the meeting could have taken about 15 minutes, but then beer and such, so two hours. Probably not as WTF as I thought it was going to be. dobberette gets the nod at starting this week, so that is something!
-
The Angels had a tough match last night. dobberjr was moved up to holding mid and presented several nice through balls. I think he will play more of this position going forward.
His calf cramped up on him in the 2nd half and he came out for the last 8 minutes. Then the interesting thing happened...the game was tied, so they went to OVERTIME.....IN SOCCER!!!! They played two 5 minute overtime periods and nobody scored, so then they called it a draw, 2-2. dobberjr started the 1st OT and with 40 seconds left in the period, this big, mean, cheating kid from the other team ran over dobberjr and took him out. dobberjr was laying on the ground face down for 5 seconds, so I knew he was done. The coaches helped him off and he watched the 2nd OT from the sideline.
The head coach sent us an email last night to check up on dobberjr. He said that dobberjr was a joy to have on the team and has established himself as an integral part of the team. Gotta admit, I was pretty proud! :gocho:
Also, one of the Angel player's dads was ejected for yelling something at the official. I will be more prepared to report on exactly what this guy is saying from here on out.
They have another game tonight! Busy week in the dobber family soccer thread!
-
safe to say dobber's got the lingo down pat
-
Tough loss last night 2-6. There was a player on loan from The Best League in the World who was playing for the other team. He scored 4. 1 header on a SET PIECE, 2 headers on crosses, and one WOOD SHEDDING OF THE ENTIRE ANGELS TEAM WITH MAD FOOT SKILLS. dobberjr started out at center back and then moved up to holding mid when coach confirmed he could still run after the trucking from the previous night. He played okay. Should have cleared the corner that resulted in a header.
Toddlerdobber ran the bases on the adjoining baseball field about 364 times. NOT EVEN TIRED!
Gonna win 'em all!

My 8 year old daughter is generally in the top 3 players on her team (and never runs out of energy) and my 11 year old son, prefers the defensive side (likes the ball to come to him instead of chasing it). He's been playing goalie for the better part of the last 3 years now. Her team has tied every game this season so far (only three teams this year, must be pretty even) and his team has lost once in the last 3 years (but throw in some ties as well).

If dobberette's team doesn't run a drill correctly after having done it a few times at practice, squawk coach gets visibly upset. That's when things like "emergency coaches meetings" happen.
-
dobberette came down with a bug. She had the chills Sunday morning and spent most of the day sleeping, so there was no soccer for her. She was kind of bummed because she knew that she was going to start had she played. We started with 1 sub and then another girl showed up at halftime. Ended up getting beat 2-1 by a team that was not as good as we were. Squawk coach did not like getting beat.
dobberjr's Ninjas won the evening cap 4-3. It was one of the crazier games. With 5 minutes left in the half, Ninjas were down 0-2, but had out shot the other team about 15-2. The other team had 2 shots in the entire half and both of them went in. Ninjas were possessing the crap out of the ball and looked great, even in the final third but just could not put it in the net. dobberjr crashed on a shot and actually put it in, but the ref waved it off. He said the goalie had a hand on the ball and the league is strict about not kicking the ball if the goalie has even a single finger on the ball. Of course, dobberjr said the goalie wasn't touching it.
The second half was more of the same. They had 2 shots in the second and made 1. We continued to pass and build and look really sharp, just not putting the ball in the net. One of the prettiest plays was 4 consecutive 1-touch passes that ended in a goal, but the last guy was off-sides by about 6 inches. Anyway, a win is a win!
-
Angels won tonight. 7-0.
dobberjr played holding mid. I wasn't there.
dobber: so tell me about the game.
dobberjr: it was good. I played holding mid and had three assists. I have to admit that two of them were just....sexy.
dobber: ??????
dobberjr: they were just really pretty through balls right to xxxxx and xxxxx and they just scored them. It was awesome.
Gonna win 'em all!

Yeah, that crap don't fly around here! But seriously, is that a good or bad thing that he said it? I think I smiled when I asked him to confirm what he said. Just need to know what gE thinks about this development.

was it a bunch of demonstration that involved some kids and had others just standing around watching until it was their turn?

Have to get caught up on the week before another busy weekend...
dobberjr's Angels had a friendly scrimmage last night that ended in 1-4 loss. A couple of the better players sat out due to minor injuries and the game was played on a very wet field. Overall uneventful loss. dobberjr did get schooled once at midfield which led to one of the goals. Played holding mid and him and his com-padre didn't talk to each other and looked a little sloppy.
TONIGHT!!!!! Angles won 7-0. dobberjr played holding mid. Had a nice assist early on and then he SCORED HIS FIRST GOAL OF MIDDLE SCHOOL!!! :emawkid: :emawkid:
He carried the ball down the side and towards the corner. Dribbled past one guy on the side and then made a move on the guy in the corner and left him behind. Ended up being an uneventful, 1 on 1 with the goalie, goal where he came in from the side and the goalie didn't close fast enough. dobberjr made quick work of the goal with the an outside right footed flick to the back of the net. He looked over at me and smiled. I gave him a  , but inside I was :excited: .
GO DOBBERJR!!!!!! :billdance:

was it a bunch of demonstration that involved some kids and had others just standing around watching until it was their turn?
kind of we spent at least half of practice in a "game situation drill" where the girls stand in positions and try to pass it to each other for a goal against one defender. For like 30 minutes, twice last week. And I mean these kids literally can't tell left from right.
-
Squawk coach has had dobberettes team spread out and run passing drills at 30 ft. I mean, only two girls can kick it that far, much less have any accuracy. I totally get spacing and all, but sheesh.....
Gonna win 'em all!

dobberette's team was tied 0-0 at half. They lost 6-0. It was frustrating. They gave up one goal and then if was a bunch of chickens running around with their heads chopped off for the rest of the 2nd half.
dobberjr's ninjas won 3-1. Probably their best game of the year. Crisp passing and excellent building. Felt like it could have been 10-1. Just some really good possessing.
Gonna win 'em all!

Angels had an exciting match on Tuesday. dobberjr played center mid. Score was 1-2 throughout most of the 2nd. With time winding down, an Angel forced a shot from 25 yards from the right side. It was deflected out towards center midfield and another angel smashed it from about 30 yards and it went just over the top of the outstretched goalie's hands with 2 seconds left. The two extra periods resulted in no scores and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Toddlerdobber dribbled the ball on an adjoining field for about 30 minutes. He was exhausted.
Gonna win 'em all!

do the dobbers play 8 soccer games a week?
-
I need cliff notes dobber. How we doing in 5 words?
-
Dobberette plays one on the weekends with a couple if weekends playing 2!
Dobberjr plays 1-3 (usually 2) during the week and one on the weekend.
Unless tournaments, then not 8. Next weekend they are both in tournaments, so probably like 76 games.

There are lots of sub story lines that I could include. Like the mom that sent Mrsdobber an email basically telling us that Toddlerdobber was being a bully to her little boy and we needed to watch him better during the games. Or the other mom that purposely avoids ever cheering for dobberjr because <insert very long story> Mrsdobber thinks the mom is a fake bitch.
Anyway, Angels got beat last night 0-4. Coach is playing too much dump and run in my opinion. We did have two easy opportunities, one went off the post, the other was on a rebound and the kid tried to tap it in and the goalie was able to recover. The other team was pretty good. Maybe that's why coach tried to dump and run so much?
High soccer iq types, is that why a coach would choose to dump and run a lot? Explain why the dump and run strategy would be employed.
Non soccer types, dump and run is a soccer thing that you probably wouldn't understand. Poop is not involved.

Gotta love the sub stories. After last weekend's games I got a call from the league manager checking on the quality of officiating because he had multiple calls from parents about how bad they were.

He is 3. "After he made my boy cry..."
Well, your boy is a whimp who sucks his thumb and carries his blanket like Linus!
The funny thing is that the two 3 year olds want to keep playing together at every game and the other mom is visibly upset that these two little guys want to play together.

Dobberette had two games over the weekend. Tied 1-1 and lost 2-0. I "informed" the ref that the other team had an extra player on the field when they scored a goal in the second game. She showed me up by calling me onto the field after the goal and explained to me that she thought another girl had left the field but she was wrong. The goal counted. I looked at her like she was speaking a foreign language and turned around and walked back to our sideline. Not my finest moment, but it was BS because our girls were standing around waiting for the substitutions to end and the other team scored. This really belongs in the shame yourself thread, even though I didn't say anything bad. The fact is, if you are a coach in a 4th grade girls soccer game and the ref calls you onto the field, you are not doing it right. Dobberjr, who was watching with mrs and toddler dobber, was impressed, which only compounds my stupidity. Dobberette played well in the first game but had a sore leg in the second game and didn't play more than 5-10 minutes.
Dobberjr's Ninjas won Sunday 3-1. Dobberjr scored a hustle goal with 2 minutes left that sealed the win. Best shot was a hard drive up the right and then came across the 18 to the front of the goal and boomed a left footed shot to just below the crossbar that the goalie deflected at the last second. Probably his strongest shot ever with his left, which was cool to see.
TLDNR: dobberette 1-1, 0-2. I am an idiot (but not that bad).
Dobberjr 3-1 with the late win clinching goal.
Toddlerdobber played cheerleader with two older girls :player: !

ahhh, don't get me started on substitutions (too late, I just got started). This is the first year we started doing in game subs (playing halves instead of quarters) so of course I taught my team the positions and how to sub in and out, tagging the correct player, and what not. The coach on the other team still goes out on the field and physically moves his players around both at kick off and during subs. I mean grabbing them and pulling them around to get into position. So of course substitutions take twice as long as they should. He doesn't understand the whole "coaching box" concept. In the middle of the game he'll actually be standing in front of me in my coaching box. He's been reminded at least once every game about where he needs to stay, but by the next game, he's roaming the side lines again.
-
Angels mercy ruled some pud team last night. 9-0.
dobberjr played mostly holding mid, but got a few minutes at attacking midfielder as well. Had one decent opportunity with his left. I love that he isn't shying away from using his left.
toddlerdobber had a 6th grade girl chasing him around at half time. I mean, I don't even know what to think about this at this point. He wakes up from his nap setting in mrsdobber's lap and then runs out on the field and older girls chase him around.

was sitting in my living room (lower level) and heard what I thought was an asteroid crashing down on my house upstairs. ran up there and opened lil sd's room and he's standing at the doorway. crawled over the railing of his crib and ate crap from about 4 1/2 feet up. seemed non-sketti-brained but pretty pissed off about the situation. going to need to get a lil kid bed.

yeah, that is a pretty tell tale sign the kid is ready for you to turn the crib into a toddler bed.

Angels won 2-0. dobberjr is looking pretty good at center back and holding mid. Developing a great deal of confidence with his first touch and with the ball at his feet.
Toddlerdobber continues to develop a great deal of confidence with the ladies at these soccer games.

Daughter's team won their final two games this weekend to finish the season at 2-0-5. Yep, tied all 5 previous games. Had a great streak of scoring early, and then giving up the tie on some random shot. This weekend though, after getting up early in both games, two of my better offensive players decided they needed to play defense instead "Because they are not scoring on us". Team was ecstatic to finally not tie a game.
Took them all out for ice cream.
-
dobberette's tourney was rain shortened. They went 2-0-1. They may have won it all, but I am not certain of the tie breakers. I think the Squawk Coach ("DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?") will let us know later this week if we got hardware or not. dobberette isn't too good yet, but she is having fun. Scores were: 3-1, 0-1, 2-1.
dobberjr's Ninjas had a great weekend. 8-1, 11-2, 8-0, and 7-3 in the championship game. dobberjr scored 6 or 7 goals. Playing really aggressive and good soccer. The team had a blast. Two of the guys who never get scoring opportunities played up top for a bit and each came away with a goal. Fun assists (dobberjr had one off a volley, another kid had a scorpion kick on on a cross from dobberjr).
toddlerdobber took dobberjr's medal right after we took team pictures. He ran around on the field saying, "MY PATCH! MY PATCH!" Hilarity ensued with everyone chasing him. He has been sneaking into dobberjr's room and stealing dobberjr's medals since Sunday night. Also, I worked with toddlerdobber on his pull-backs. It's pretty great to watch him do it with a size 5 soccer ball. If I knew how to pak head videos, I'd put it on vine or something.
-
Dobberjr Angels won last night 8-0. I couldn't go.
Toddlerdobber hit the other 3 year old again last night. Mrsdobber said that the kid touched toddlerdobber's nose and he wasn't playing that game. Sounds like the little punk was asking for if.
Gonna win 'em all!

Weekend update please...
-
dobberette lost her game on Sunday, 0-2. That is the end of the season. Indoor starts in a few weeks, but I am not certain if I am going to post game by game updates or not.
doberette and mrsdobber left that game to go to Phantom of the Opera, so it was just me toddlerdobber who made the 30 minute drive to dobberjr's game. toddlerdobber fell asleep on the way and slept through the entire game and the car ride home. It was really adorable to see him sitting in the camping chair with his legs crossed- right foot on left knee, left foot was in the seat as well (not hanging over the edge), which allowed him to rest his head on his right foot. Looked really studly in an adorable way.
dobberjr's ninjas won 4-0. dobberjr scored the first 2 within the first 5 minutes and had a couple of other opportunities to complete the hat trick, but just couldn't seal the deal. They had fun and have one make up game left next weekend before they head off for indoor.
This week is the final week of Angel's soccer with a game on Tuesday and a game on Wednesday. I think they have to win one game to make the playoffs, so fingers crossed!
-
Pretty good weekend in Dobber world. My girls never have enjoyed organized sports. Wish they did but I won't force it. Just non-competitive gymnastics at this point for the youngest.
-
dobberjr"s Angels won again last night 3-1. dobberjr played center back and right corner back. Had some really good clears at crucial times. The win insured that the Angels will be in the 4 team playoff. They have one more regular season game tonight, which I will have to miss. dobberjr. is pretty pumped.
After the Angel's game, it was off to Ninja practice, where it was Ninjas vs. parents. The parents also had the younger siblings. It was pretty great. Fun was had by all. I didn't score (because I suck), but the parents won 5-4 (I think that was the final). Easily the most highly anticipated game of the season. We have a couple of dads that are studs on the field and it is great to watch them weave through the Ninjas. Even though both of the dads are all about the kids, they each usually take over once or twice during the game because the kids love to watch their skills.
-
Guys, sorry I got a bit behind. Last Thursday dobberjr's Angels played the #1 team in the league and lost 1-3. I wasn't there, so nothing to report except dobberjr got the game ball. It was the first time a 6th grader has gotten the game ball since this coach has been here. The playoffs start tomorrow. Anybody up for an Angel pak?
Yesterday the Ninjas had their final match of the season and won 4-0. dobberjr had a goal and and a couple of nice assist opportunities. They finished the season 7-0-1. Next Spring should be fun, as they are playing some really pretty soccer right now.
Toddlerdobber was at his preschool Halloween party, making funny faces in every picture that the parents were trying to take. dobberette let the 3 year olds turn her into a mummy with toilet paper.
Gonna win 'em all!

dobberjr's Angels lost 0-3. Never really got going. A bad game to end a great season. First time the Angels had been in the playoffs in 5 or 6 years. Last year they only won 2 games. This year they only lost 2 games. Chin up, next year looks promising.
I'll be taking some time off from this dobber family blog. It takes a lot of time and energy to keep you all up to date. Lots of phone calls and text messages that go without a response. Roast beef sandwiches, quite the pickle, etc.

Welp, I really am in a pickle. dobberjr made the JVBoys basketball team. The thread title would need to be changed, and that can really backfire, but I am wrestling with the idea of posting basketball updates as well. Maybe I'll watch a few games and see if the games/parents are exciting/funny enough to post about.

Didn't you post earlier that dobberjr was in 8th grade? Am I confused here or did djr make the high school JV team while still in middle school?
I know I can't hold a candle to dobber family updates, but Fedor Jr class went through Bball cuts for the first time and it was an eye opening experience for some parents. My favorite quote was "I am not mad about my kid getting cut, I am pissed about some of the kids that made it!" :dubious: :Ugh:

6th grade.
Middle school at his school is 6th-8th grade. He did all of that amazing soccer stuff as a 6th grader, which is pretty amazing.
He hasn't played on a basketball team in 3 years, so he may be a bit behind. The coach told him he made the team because he hustled, he's fast, and he's athletic.
He's a real 5 heart kid.

So he is on like the B-team of the 6th-8th combined team. That's pretty good! Also is that some kind of tiny or otherwise weird school or something? Seems strange to combine that many grades to get a team together.

Small school. About 60 kid per grade.

Fedor Jr. is a few games into his first school basketball season and things are going pretty well. He had his first career double double last night.
There is a chance for a triple double this season but I am not sure if it will be pts rebs and blocks or pts rebs and turnovers. How is dobber jr. doing?
-
dobberjr has paddles for hands. It is limiting his playing time. Soft feet but brick hands. He is aggressive at getting rebounds and he's fast, so the coach is trying to get him in the game some. It's a work in progress.
Sounds like Fedorjr is tearing it up!

Basketball: dobberjr went from no playing time to first man off the bench and played about 3/4 of the game. Even started once. He wants to go to a camp this summer and is looking forward to playing again next year. If his playing time stays up, I may blog about bball, too.
The night before the first lacrosse practice in Feb, dobberjr says, "I want to play lacrosse." Dobberjr has never played lacrosse. The dobber family has zero history with lacrosse other than one of my buddies from KSU was in the club and then went on to coach lax. The dobber family has zero lax gear. I called a buddy who has a boy in lax and he said go buy a mouth guard and come on over. We have everything else you could ever need. Long story short, first game is tomorrow. I don't look for dobberjr to see the field.
(For non-high-level lacrosse nubes, lax is an abbreviation for lacrosse. Expect me to use 'lax' very frequently itt.)
Ninja soccer has started, today's game was rained out.
Lightning soccer has started. The girls got beat 0-7 and had zero shots on goal. This season could be a long one, as the two best girls from last fall moved up a division.
With all of the sports activities in the dobber family, it's a wonder I find any time to bbs!

Angels lax won 14-2. I guess they are supposed to be really good this year. I don't know jack about lax. One kid seemed to be able to carry the ball all over the field and no one could stop him. dobberjr played the last couple of minutes of the game. Really looks like a great up and coming lax player. Even said, "screw it" and took a shot like a boss. They played a 5th quarter for all of the kids that didn't get much/any playing time. Jr played all of that period as well. No goals.
He said he had a lot of fun.
He doesn't play very aggressive. I think it's because he doesn't understand the game. It seems like it would be fun.
Gonna win 'em all!

Deadspin has alot of really great lax bro stories. I will be looking forward to seeing an appearance by dobber jr.
-
Dobberjr's Ninjas won their first match of the spring season 6-1. They looked a little rusty, but jr. is in pretty good shape due to the lax practices on top of the soccer practices. His only real opportunity today was on an offsides, otherwise he had a couple of decent crosses, but This game isn't worth a great write up.

Here is an update on Fedor jr., he got on an MAYB team that is pretty good. He has a long way to go to get up to speed with these kids, but it will be the best coaching he has ever had. They are forcing him to do things the right way instead of just getting by being bigger/faster/stronger than everyone else. Also there are some big/fast/strong kids to compete against who don't suck at basketball like Fedor jr's dad.
How has the LAX been going slobber?
-
I missed the last 3 games because of travel. He got a bunch of time on Wednesday. He loves it. Team is 4-1 or so. Pretty good.
Go MAYB FEDORJR! That will be great experience.
Gonna win 'em all!

Last weekend the dobberette Lightning failed to score, but did have some shots on goal, in a 0-3 loss. Dobberette has already told one of her teammates, "I am quitting after this year. I like the games, but I don't like practice."
dobberjr won 6-0. They are looking pretty good. Dobberjr scored one and coach called him over to the sideline and said, "let everyone know there is now a 4 touch maximum." It seemed that coach that jr and some of the others were dribbling a bit too much late in the game, trying to score.
dobberjr also scored his first goal in lax this week.
Dobberette's KU coach thinks Oubre is making a big mistake. He is just not ready and would benefit from another year at KU.
Gonna win 'em all!

Dobbs, dobberette's coach probably sucks

Daughter 1 is really into swimming. There was a meet last weekend and she got a new A time and a new B time. (That's swimming lingo). So basically we're dealing with the next Missy Franklin here.
Daughter 2 is taking her first crack at basketball. It's going fantastic. Definitely the best dribbler out there. Who is the girl Steph Curry? She's basically that.

At what age should I sign up my daughter for organized sports (not competitive, just learn the rules and try some different stuff to see what she likes) 4, 5, 6? :dunno:

yeah any of those ages should work for soccer. 4 is probably the low end. You can probably find stuff for younger kids but it's likely stupid and a waste of money. I don't know, google your local soccer club or whatever and see when they start.

toddlerdobber will be 5 in November. We are thinking about starting him in soccer this fall. They have a "lil' dribblers" thing for 2 year olds, but it is a complete waste of time and money. dobberjr started in the fall just before turning 6 in December. We all know how well that has turned out for him. (If you don't, he is basically Bo Jackson inside of Lebron James's body, with a Messi's feet.)
-
lil sd is essentially sd's good looks crossed with mrs. Sd's poor coordination. He's fast as crap though. He takes like 25 steps to my 1 and maintains distance when I'm chasing him with the vacuum popping thing he always demands to be chased with.

I wish when I was young my parents groomed me to be a stud NFL Punter. I mean, what a fantastic job.

My 3 year old goes to an extra thing that we pay for at his daycare called Soccer Shots, that he loves the snot out of. More or less every single night of the week he asks, "Do I have Soccer Shots tomorrow?" and then gets really sad if the answer is no. But if it's Tuesday, then the answer is yes, and the world is a magnificent place to be! I wouldn't make a special trip to take him to the same kind of thing, but since he's already there, and its not that much money, we figure we might as well.
We can't take him to either of his brother's games or practices because he is constantly trying to run out onto the field to play. Or if he's not doing that he is asking "Why can't I play soccer on the field?" Sometimes either I'll kick the ball around with him for a while, or he'll find somebody's brother or sister that will, but its not the same thing as being out on the field. And I can't do it during Boy 2's games, cause I'm the coach.
The little guy is both left footed, and only uses his hand to stop (trap in soccer parlance) the ball about 15% of the time, so I know that he is going to be really good.

Quality post. 3 yr olds at soccer games are what keep this thread fresh. Tether him to the bench and then live blog during the game while coaching.

Skipper5 flatly refused to participate in the "Happy Feet" soccer program last week. :curse: HOWEVER, when we got home he did go out on the driveway and shoot baskets by himself for the first time and has continued to do so basically everyday since :D

Sorry to hear that slobber. Unless you don't really care, if that is the case then consider this us sharing a beer and laughing at the ridiculous world of youth sports.
I always felt like I was hanging by a thread w/ my assistant coach duties. I think I have relayed the trials and tribulations of that situation enough already.

lil sd is getting really good at kicking. he will put the ball down right in front of his foot and kick out (no back swing) and yell "KICK" and do that over and over until he's bored with it.

Now that I am no longer coaching and only the team money collector, I will be able to report on more trolling along with more enjoyable toddlerdobber sideline happenings. It's what this thread is really about.
The trolling doesn't just relate to soccer. It's parents of 5 year old 'athletes' that need to be trolled.

Okay. Dobberette's team sucks. They tied 0-0 in their first game and lost 0-7 (estimated) in the 2nd game of their tournament. They have not scored a goal yet this year. I blame the coaching.
Dobberjr's team played very well today. Won 7-1. Jr carried one in from the side and as the goalie came out, he popped it up over the goalie and bounced it in the goal. This all happened within 10 ft of the goal and was really great. He also had two assists. One of them was really awesome. Trust me.
Toddlerdobber really enjoyed himself today. He carried the official roster out to the ref. We played some soccer at half time. He romanced the ladies on the sideline. One question, why do 4 yr olds announce so loudly that they have to go pee?
Gonna win 'em all!

Dobberette's team is oscar bad. Lost again 0-6 (estimated). Toddlerdobber WHISPERED in my ear at half time, "I got to go pee."
Dobberjr 's game starts in 30 minutes. They are playing in what amounts to a cow pasture with field markings and no cows. Is this a 3rd world country that I was not aware of? Toddlerdobber brought a basket of Easter eggs to share. We'll see how this turns out.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
Toddlerdobber delivered the official roster and player cards to the official yesterday. He then lined up to wait for the ref to call his name.
Gonna win 'em all!

Boy3 came to Boy2's game today, and only ran onto the field once! We had the last game on that field for the day and so he got to play on the field for at least half an hour. He was wearing some hand me down cleats and shin guards, and was just going end to end putting the ball into the back of the net.
Boy2's U6 4v4 team won 22-0 (estimated). They're playing up against U7 teams this year and just chicken winging teams left and right.
-
SleepFighter boys are studs!
Dobberjr Ninjas won 6-0. Jr is really playing balls out aggressive. The opposing coach was yelling at the ref about jr. Jr yelled back at the opposing coach, "what did I do?" with a pretty great shoulder shrug. I am pretty sure MLS teams are going to be calling any day.
Toddler did pretty great with the Easter egg sharing. He even ran an extra egg out to a little girl as we were getting ready to leave.
Dobberette found some diamonds on mine craft and she said it was the best day of her life. Oh brother.

Time to join up in this thread again for another season....
DMartinJr's team won their first game of the season 4-1. DMartinJr was only scored on once (played goalie the entire game) and that was on a shot he dived at but just barely missed. Had a really good stop and take away when he threw himself at the other team's forward and landed on the ball. No fear there.
DMartinEtte's team also won their first game of the seaon 1-0 (but should have been 3-0 or 4-0). Have to work on not stopping before you shoot on goal, and not dribbling until within a foot of the goalie before taking your shot. Only had one substitute player, so pretty much ran all my players into the ground. But hey, at 1-0 on the season, we're already ahead of last season when we tied every game going into the last weekend (and won both).

You are underselling your kids' eliteness. I am pretty sure your kids are destined for USA National Teams.

If the rain stays away, Dobberette has 4 games this weekend and Dobberjr has 2.
We had a bunch of rain and snow that caused a bunch of postponed games early in the season, now they have to make them up.
On Saturday, the Ninjas are going to play with 7 because 5 kids are out of town. I am looking forward to this, as I think playing a man down on offense will require dobberjr to have to take over and score a goal or two on his own with nothing more than his athleticism and talent. Screw team play, WE ARE A MAN DOWN! GET OUT THEIR AND GET US A GOAL!
I look forward to reporting back on some really high level individual soccer play. If anybody knows any talent scouts, send them to NC this weekend.
-
Well it looks like we may have some decisions to make in the future, obviously football and basketball eliteness is a proven point. But now Fedor jr. is now a track star as well. He got some first and seconds in his very first meet, long jump was a little lagging. But it turns out that the meet was the first time he had jumped into the pit full speed (coaches! :shakesfist:). His 4x200 relay is a collection of (mostly) studs. They dropped the baton (coaches! :shakesfist:), picked it up and won by at least ten yards. He is nursing ankle pain right now. Tall kid/fast growing kids seem to have some issues with tissues keeping up with their bones. We have been through Seiver's already and this seems similar.

Can I get a toddlerdobber update?
-
One of the mom's brought a huge container of matchbox cars on Saturday. Toddlerdobber was in heaven. I don't think he yelled one word of encouragement at the Ninjas. He elected to go with me to dobberettes 2nd game on Sunday, I think he wanted to see the other toys that the little kids might bring.
Also, he whispered twice on Sunday that he had to go pee. I took him to the edge of the park behind some trees and told him it was natures portapotty. He thought that was funny.
Dobberette scored a goal in the first game on Saturday! They won 5-2! They tied the second game on Saturday 1-1. Lost first game on Sunday 0-4. We drove all the way to the field for the second Sunday game and they cancelled it 30 minutes before kickoff. Parents were pissed. It had been raining all afternoon and there was no sign of a break in the forecast. Dobberette said she may play again in the fall. Scoring a goal and winning a game changes a lot of things.
Dobberjr lost on Saturday playing down a man for the entire match. He got tackled hard (foul called) and hit his head and had to come out for about 10 minutes. So they played down 2 men for 10 minutes. After expert evaluation on the sideline, they let him go back in and he scored the only goal in 1-4 defeat. He wasn't happy.
They bounced back with a win on Sunday 5-1. He played a little tentative. He has a cold and I think the hard tackle shook him a bit. It all led to less than his best effort. Need to toughen him up.
Ninja coach's son got tackled hard at the end of the game on Saturday and was acting hurt. He is the best flopper on the team. His dad wasn't having any of it and did not leave the bench when he yelled, "Get up!" The boy finally stood up long enough for the ball to be played in and the final whistle to blow. It sounds kind of mean, but it was pretty awesome from my perspective.
Gonna win 'em all!

Sorry for that long post. There were a lot of games last weekend!
I talked to dobberjr's coach last night re: camp options for the boys this summer. It then drifted to our plans for next year. Move up to higher level? Stay at this level as the team moves up to 11v11? That type of thing. I asked him for his honest feedback on if dobberjr would be able to excel at the next level or not and if he was ready at this point. Dobberjr's coach said, "He can definitely succeed at the next level. He has the most upside of any of the boys on the team."
This is what I've been trying to tell you guys all along. I am dealing with a phenom here. The question really is, "At what point do I unleash him on the entire soccer world?"

I think he has to go through the coach first, I am guessing that is the hold up. (NOT COMPLAINING!)
You need to post more about your studs. You have to do it in an over-the-top sort of bragging method where people don't actually believe that you are bragging, but deep down, you know believe everything you are writing. I think you were getting the hang of it with your last post, but lay off "complaining about coaches" bs. This thread is about winners, not about excuses.

The coach complaining was tongue in cheek, I thought everyone would recognize it a such. Here is a report from the last track meet last night; This was an invitational, where only the absolute studs of the studs are allowed to compete. There were a whole bunch of teams including lots of big schools with some fast kids. You are allowed to compete in four events, and wouldn't you know, four medals and four PRs. And he is still nursing the bad ankle, btw.... Fedorette sat in the stands and cheered her brother on while reading a Rick Riordan book and then later stayed up in bed to an undetermined hour drawing pictures of Hecate and Aphrodite.

I haven't written at all about boy1 on this blog yet, so here goes. Anyway, he is a confirmed stud. He is playing in club soccer for the first time this spring season, after having shot/dribbled the cover off the ball in rec with me as his coach for the past several years. And he is continuing to dominate, playing predominantly at center-mid, while moving to center-back late in tight games as the youth soccer equivalent of sending in HDH.
His coach is a guy in his 20's who is all about winning. Last weekend, Colombia (team name) had a 3 goal lead in the first half when our starting center back tried to clear the ball, but instead sent it right across the middle to a lone opponent who put it into the back of the net. Coach yelled out, "Nice job. That was the best cross I've seen all day!" Man oh man, it was right out of the Frank Martin playbook. No confirmation on whether he told the kid that he would burn his house down with him in it at halftime. Boy1 ended the game with 0 goals, but 4 (!) assists in an 8-6 shootout. Easily the highest scoring game of the year.
I got off the phone about an hour ago with the one of the DoCs of the club. He wants to place boy1 as a play-up on a D1 (highest level of local club soccer for his age group) select team next year. Pretty cool, but would be a bit of a logistical nightmare, as well as a doubling the cost of playing. Quite the pickle.
This morning boy3 didn't want to go to daycare, but I told him it was SoccerShots day, and he jumped up, ran to his room, and got his clothes on. They came down and said, "Hurry up! I don't want to miss SoccerShots!"

Forgot last weekend's update:
DmartinJR's team won 4-0. Other team was on average 6 inches taller than our team, but still couldn't compete. I've started to notice a trend at his games. Everyone plays calm in the first half, but when the second half rolls around and DmartinJR's team is up by 2, then the other team starts getting angry, starts fouling (of course any foul is rarely called) and starts playing even worse, leading to more scoring. DmartinJR may have a future in coaching, really enjoys barking out directions from the goal.
Dmartinette's team had two games last weekend. Had to play without Dmartinette though, sick at home with a 101 degree fever and was she was very angry that she wasn't able to play. Won the first game 3-1 against the coach that nobody likes (and the main reason I started coaching). Only goal gave up was on a penalty kick after a handball. Won the second game 2-0. Actually got to see a 3rd grade girl pulled from the game after her fourth two handed shove in about 30 seconds.
This weekend, DMartinJR plays the other team from his school, apparently much trash talk has been going back and forth this season. And Dmartinette has a rematch against the coach we dislike.

if you tell lil sd we will do that tomorrow you may as well be saying we will do that when you are 80 years old. out of batteries for the bubble machine but we'll pick some up tomorrow and play with it then = we're throwing it in the garbage along with all of your other toys and the only activity you can do for the rest of your life is math problems in doors.

Yep, when Dmartinette was little, the only concept of the past she had was "yesterday". "we went to the fair yesterday" "my birthday was yesterday" "remember when it snowed yesterday" all in the same day.
-
Quick weekend update: fedorjr; 4 more medals
fedorette; watched cat videos in the stands for 4 hours
fedor; snuck out of the track meet to visit a brewery and later got to a 4.

One of my co-workers has a boy who plays soccer with a kid who is the nephew of a former world record holder in the 100 meters. Kid is super fast. Sounds like Fedor Jr. should be giving him some training tips.
-
dobberette: DNP, she was sick. Team lost 0-1. She wants to quit. I am actually considering it. I don't think she finds any enjoyment in it at all. Thoughts on letting her quit?
EDIT: in season. She can quit at the end of the season. I'm not a barbarian.
dobberjr, won 2 games. 4-0 and 5-1. No goals. Played really well. Their possession is off the charts. In the first game our goalie did not touch a ball in play during the entire first half. He retrieved one ball that rolled out the back and placed it on the line for somebody else to take the free kick. I didn't have a watch on it, but 90% possession would be pretty close.
toddlerdobber was given a bunch of handmedown dinosaurs by one of the soccer moms. Lots of sparring between Dino's and some rawrs could be heard throughout both games. Also played tag with some of the dads but would always fall down when they were getting close to tagging him. He might be a flopper.
Gonna win 'em all!

Time keeps on slipping, slipping, slipping, into the future.
Back to the task at hand:
DmartinJr's team had a hard fought victory this weekend. Back and forth defensive battle for the first 34 minutes of the game (18 minute halves) with his team finally scoring in the last 2 minutes to win the game 1-0. Definitely the most difficult game they have played in a few seasons.
Dmartinette's team played my nemesis again. Jumping out to an early 2 goal lead, only to watch the lead slip away into a tie. But they pulled it out in the second half, pulling away to a 4-2 victory. Nemesis coach was heard to be screaming "where's my damn defense" and "you're playing like a bunch of third graders" during the game. Note, team is made up of 3rd and 4th graders (most my team is 3rd graders).
My highschool daughter (would that be DmartinTeenEtte?) is throwing around the idea of playing Soccer next year for the high school instead of running track. She's fed up with track, was running three events at varsity level earlier this year, and has been reduced to one event (and that being her worst event of the three). I wouldn't complain, would rather sit there for an hour and watch soccer for an hour, then sit there for 5 hours and watch 30 seconds of running.
-
Dmartinette finished out her season this weekend, pulling off a dominating 3-0 victory to finish the season undefeated. Only real chance the other team had to score was on a penalty kick (first half goalie forgot she wasn't goalie in the second half and dived on the ball resulting in the penalty kick) but our second half goalie came up with a great save on the penalty kick. Dmartinette didn't score this game, but was excellent at passing, stealing, and (very important to me) staying on the correct side of the field and not playing bunch ball. Took the whole team out for ice cream after the game to celebrate the season. Humorously, we played the "yellow" team this weekend, and after joking about beating the bananas all game, someone actually brought bananas as an after game snack.
DmartinJR's team stomped the competition, winning 8-1. The only goal allowed rolled right between DmartinJr's hands and legs in what seemed to be slow motion. We gave him so much crap for that, but all in good fun, he had plenty of great goal saves. His final game is next weekend and another season will be in the books.

Great recap! I haven't posted in a while but will catch everyone up shortly, including a League LAX Championship with toddlerdobber yelling "go Dobberjr" most of the second half, even though Dobberjr was not on the field until the last 70 seconds.
Gonna win 'em all!

I took dobberjr and toddlerdobber to the girls middle-school league championship soccer game last night. Jr's school won 4-0. They are on a 56-0 streak dating back 4 years. One of the parents said, "COACH X is building a monster."
-
Dobberette's soccer career is likely coming to an end. Her team lost last week 0-4 and the week before that 0-7. They are going to a tournament this weekend, and then the season is over and the team she is on is dissolving.
Weekend before last, dobberjr's Ninjas went to a tournament and took 2nd. Got beat 1-4 to start things off, but actually scored 2 own goals in the loss. They bounced back and won 5-1 later that afternoon. The next day they played a very strong team and were down 0-2 at half. Really took it to the next level in the second half and came away with a 4-3 win. Probably the best soccer the team has played all year. Dobberjr had a goal and a really sweet assist. In the finals, they played a superior team. It was 0-1 at half, but they played the entire half in the defensive third. The wheels came off in the second half and they lost 0-5. The Ninjas were actually playing up a level in this tournament, so they felt pretty good about their performance.

I forgot, how old are the dobber kids again?
And indeed, Coach X may already have built a monster.

Man I sort of forgot about the existence of this thread so I guess it's time to come in here drop a dobberbrag of my own. Brockette pitched both games of a doubleheader last night and her team run ruled the other team in both games.
-
an awesome middle school team usually means state championship in high school. coach X should start trying to get a job at that high school.
-
At a tournament this weekend. Both kids' teams are in it.
Had 4 twelve year old boys in van last night. I learned that bae means poop in Danish. Toddlerdobber wanted in on the joke, so it was nonstop "Guys GUys GUYs GUYS GUYSSS!!!! I was doing xxxxx and I had a bae!" Classic Toddlerdobber.
Gonna win 'em all!

Dobberjr's Ninjas are playing up an age group. 11v11 for the first time for most of the boys. They won this morning 3-0. 0-0 at half and Dobberjr had a nice cross for the first goal. They played pretty good soccer in the 2nd half.
Dobberette's Lightning team played one of the better teams in the state. A team that beat them 0-7 a couple of weeks ago. They played well. Down 0-2 at half. Ended up losing 0-5. Dobberette played a little better, but still thinking that this weekend could be the end of her soccer career.
Gonna win 'em all!

Dobberettes team lost 0-4. This dumpster fire has become an out of control raging forest fire.
Dobberjr's team lost 1-4. They played like crap the first 20 minutes. Played to a draw from that point. They are doing pretty good with keeping their shape and space. Need to get the ball off their feet quicker.
Gonna win 'em all!

sounds like the dobber family has been pretty busy

Boys lost their Sunday game 1-2 and didn't make it out of their pool. They played well for playing up an age group and their first time at 11 v 11. Kids evidently grow A LOT between 12 and 13. Dobberjr's speed wasn't superior to most of the other team's kids, and as I said earlier, the boys need to get the ball off their feet. It was a lot of fun.
Dobberette's team also lost 1-2. They scored first and should have had a second, but the ref said the ball didn't cross the line completely. The goalie's body language said otherwise, as did my own eyes. The other team then had a equalizer and the go ahead goal was a boomer from midfield on a rebound. The girls played hard all weekend dobberette said she wants to play rec soccer (down a level) next fall. This is a good move for her.
Got home last evening in time to change and go to the School Sports Appreciation Night. Dobberjr had the girls cheering for him everytime his name was called. He was all embarrassed. Two of the coaches even said something about dobberjr being a crowd favorite. The other parents were talking to us about it afterwards. I guess what I am trying to say is, "I am going to have my hands full!" (and dobbberjr may have his hands full pretty soon, too! :fatty:"
(Good lord, I am a horrible parent.)

they need goal line technology and vanishing foam spray :curse:

This times 1,000!!! This is Challenge Level 10 year old soccer! We are not a 3rd world country!

Welp, Brockette pitched two more games last night trying to help her team get to state but the season is over. In the first game she totally imposed her will on the other team and gently curbstomped their postseason hopes and dreams. In the sub-state finals the other team was just too good. Their pitcher was dominant and was flinging subsonic laser darts over home plate all night. She even knocked one of Brockette's pitches out of the park. I'm not sure what the female version of Silverbacking is but that was probably a good example of it. Still a good season for her and I'm impressed with how she improved her pitching abilities as the season progressed. :gocho:

Guys, soccer has started!
dobberjr's middle school team won 5-2 last night. Some great possession soccer in the final third. dobberjr played right centerback. He did a great job. Team looks to better than last year.
Ninjas are in a tournament this weekend. Lost the first game this morning 3-5. dobberjr did not play well in the first. He stepped back to play the back of a 3-3-3-1 position and the other team scored 2 goals fairly quickly. He was out of position badly on one attack and he lunged at another attacker and got beat on the second goal. He was pretty down. The Ninjas made it a game in the second half after being down 1-3 at half. The second goal came following dobberjr making a couple of nice moves and then afterburners injected and he blew by his guy towards the goal and made a short cross to his teammate for an easy goal. That was quickly followed by another dobberjr speed move where he finished it on his own acrossed the goalie to the far side. Two minutes later a handball in the box had the Ninjas poised to even it up, but the PK attempt went hard off the cross bar. Pressing up over the final couple of minutes led to a breakaway by the opposition and a goal as time expired.
Maybe dobberjr read the article about the 11 year old softball girls who threw the game, and he decided to play lousy defense so he would have to play back there again?!?!?
Gonna win 'em all!

Played really well tonight against a team that was very good offensively. Won 4-1. Dobberjr scores the fourth on one of his amazing breakaways where he beats the last guy and then takes it right at the goalie. Tonight, he faked a shot with a hesitation move and the goalie went to his knees. At that point, toddlerdobber could have rolled it past the goalie.
Gonna win 'em all!

They won the first game on Sunday. 2-0. Thoroughly dominated the other team, just struggled with attacking in the final third. The possession was very good. dobberjr assisted on one of the goals and created nearly every attempt the team had.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
Ninjas lost the last game of the tourney 2-4. They were ahead 2-0 at half. dobberjr assisted both goals. He is playing pretty good soccer. MLS is probably hearing rumblings. The team had 2 subs for the tourney and they just couldn't engage in the last game after halftime. No gas left in the tank.
Gonna win 'em all!

Not sure how the season is going to go in the Martin household this year. Last year's undefeated Martinette team has now been split into two teams (older girls moving up a notch, with younger girls filling their place). Can coach Martin duplicate last season's success for not 1, but 2 teams this year? Stay tuned to find out.
Also, MartinJR enters his final season of rec soccer, before moving up to the middle school level or possible retirement. Can he keep his goals per game against average of .166 for a final season?
Practice has started and games begin in a couple weeks!
side note, while throwing out possible team names this week (by the way, both Martinette teams are light pink) the suggestion of cotton candy was thrown out. I thought she said rotten candy, which honestly sounds like a pretty good name for a girls soccer team. amirite?

what has toddlerdobber been up to?
I told a really great story about him in another thread and nobody responded. I thought maybe nobody cared about him anymore.
The fields were off limits at this tournament, so he spent most of his time hanging out with one of the boy's older sister. He is quite the lady's man. He did slip and fall on the bleachers and that lead to some tears, but I asked him if he was tough and he said no. So I said, oh, you are pillowy soft like a marshmallow and then he started laughing and went back to playing.

I'll retell it here:
Mrsdobber took Toddlerdobber to see JW. She told me that he cried during the movie. I was pretty incredulous that he would cry, so I asked her what happened. Mrs dobber said that toddlerdobber had to go to the bathroom during the movie. As they were walking up the long hallway towards the theater exit he was yelling "PAUSE IT! PAUSE IT!" When the mean person operating the movie didn't comply, toddlerdobber started crying.
Gonna win 'em all!

poor little guy. that story is both adorable and hilarious.

Ninjas had a tournament. 2-1-1 played for first and lost. Good tournament. toddlerdobber did some great things.
Ninjas league started. Played two games. Both ties at 1-1. Had 12 players for both games. dobberjr scored a goal with his new pink shoes and gave them a kiss during the game.
Angels are doing well. I think they are 5-1-0. dobberjr is playing center back, right back, and holding mid for the most part. Occassionaly getting some opportunities from holding mid. Took a free kick from 35 yards and drilled it.
Toddlerdobber is getting tired of watching dobberjr play soccer all of the time. He says that he wants to start playing. He likes to play tag instead of watch soccer on the sidelines.
-
Does anyone else on the team have pink shoes or is dobberjr a trailblazer?
-
Trailblazer
Gonna win 'em all!

Had the first swim meet of the season. There are parents and coaches who scream "GO!" or something similar when the kids lift their head out of the water on breast stroke. On like every stroke. So absurd.
-
13 straight days of rain in North Cack-a-lacky....ain't nobody got time for that. Gave dobberjr the opportunity to recover from a head injury, which was said to not be a concussion with the use of a CT scan.
Gonna win 'em all!

what happened to dobber jr?
