Also our DC at the time, Coach Gibbs didn't believe in the blitz, as it inconvenienced the opponent's QB too much.

The people I have met from Kansas are super nice.

Texas can't be all that bad as it seems everyone and their dog are moving here. Must be the jobs, $9 billion state surplus, no state income tax, and low business regulation.

I know one person from Kansas who loves it down here.

Twitted out yesterday...

Had a real life interaction with about a dozen folks from Nacogdoches a couple of weeks ago...about half of them were SFA alums.  I tried to engage them in a little smack talk regarding our upcoming season opener on the gridiron, and the fact that we enjoy seeing their b-ball team perform well because we might want to steal Brad Underwood back some day.  Not a single one of them knew that they were playing us in football or who Brad Underwood is, and I'm not gEing here. :frown:

I don't doubt you on your encounter with SFA alumni and their lack of knowledge of our sport programs and the going ons around here. I feel your pain happens to me all the time when I try to talk sports with a fellow SFA grad.

And thank you for the welcome I knew I would eventually get one. See I told you people from Kansas are good folk.

Kansas State’s Ryan Patterson makes history, stuns field by fishing solo to win 2012 National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship

15.Apr.2012 by Gary Mortenson

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Heading into this Sunday’s final day of National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship competition, Ryan Patterson said that he was merely “a small-town kid from Kansas living a dream.” By the end of today’s weigh-in, Patterson’s “dream” turned into one of the most stunning and improbable realities in the history of college fishing. Because his partner and brother ran into eligibility issues leading into the team event, Patterson was forced, per national championship rules, to fish the tournament completely by himself. But in the end, it didn’t matter.

Hoisting a tournament-best 18 pounds, 1 ounce on the scales during the final day of competition, Patterson managed to out-gun tournament leaders and odds-on title favorites Matt and Jordan Lee of Auburn University to walk away with the most coveted prize in all of college fishing.

But we have a game to prepare for.

QB: #2 ZACH CONQUE 6-5; 230 (So.) taking snaps.

Did you know for the first time in almost a decade SFA will be using the TE position. We run the spread offense (Texas Tech style). Now with a new coach and a new scheme we will be going under center with two TE set formations. In the past even if it was 3rd and inches we would go with 5 wide outs and an empty back field.

It will also be the first time in awhile we have a QB that run (don't let the knee brace fool you)

Defense is all new, with this guy true freshman DE: #13 John Franklin 6-4; 255 being the star

6-4; 255 good size for a DE.

No Lumberjack fan will argue with you on that Texas State has our number in football. It's like a curse.

Even during the Jack's 2010 SLC Championship season we blew a 24 point 4th quarter lead at home losing 24-27 to a last place (1-6) Bobcat team.

Haven't beaten Texas State since 2003.

I was at that 2012 game in San Marcos, that being Texas State's first year on the FBS level, and we almost pulled off the upset.

Down 17-41 midway through the 3rd quarter the Jacks came storming back with 20 unanswered points behind Gus Johnson who put over 100 yards on the ground scoring 3 TDs pulling it to 37-41 (would have been 39-41 with a field goal winning it put Wiggs missed 2 PATS) But Attaway throws a pick, 3rd and goal at the Bobcat 9.

We lost but what a game.

Now basketball that's another story. :)

I think we should treat it like NFL teams treat preseason. Give the starters one or two possessions. Maybe an entire quarter. Then bring in Ertz or whatever. Could probably give all non redshirted freshmen 3 quarters and still win comfortably.

Me too. We'd be better off in the long run. What difference does it make whether we win by 35 or 63? It's all about #AuburnGameTho

My guess is Bill just runs Gronk up the middle all game without throwing a single pass. Uber vanilla style.

Would give us a chance to give Ertz a chance to get on the field in a "real" game.

That walk on QB too. I say we have them alternate possessions.

Well of course we don't get the top recruits like a Big 12 team, but we do get who we can in East Texas high school talent (pretty much the left overs after the Big 12 get theres), JUCOs and FBS transfers lost on the depth chart of other programs or who just want to come home, and believe it or not there are some top shelf players on this team and they are mucho hungry.

Our last coach J.C. Harper just left a mess of a broken team, beaten down and left wondering. Then a proven winner in coach Clint Conque comes knocking (he always loved SFA) breaths new life into the program with new schemes and new players. I posted Conque's record against FBS teams while at Central Arkansas and his teams do give a game of it, but in the end depth and talent does win out.

More fun to know about the team you're about to play and their back story to give meaning to it all instead of looking at your opponent  simply as...

Line opens at K-State -36.5

History says we don't cover the opener vs D2 squads however after last years debacle vs Northern Dakota Tech, I won't be surprised if we win this one by 50ish.

Wait, I didn't see any highlights in that video from the McNeese game....uh.....maybe because.......uh......there weren't none.

I do like their tradition at home games of a player sinking the axe in the wood before their team takes the field.   That is pretty neat.  Of course, I think at the McNeese game it took two tries as it bounced off the first time.   Nothing went right for them that game.

Does SFA have a hand signal like every other school in Texas?  I thought I saw a double-barreled 'guns up', but didn't know how that translated to axes or maple syrup.
