Title: TallCats
Post by: Fedor on August 07, 2014, 09:25:06 AM
I am of extremely average height, however Fedor Jr. is turning out to be freakishly tall.  He just turned 13 and is over 6'1".  This is entirely due to Mrs. Fedor's side of the family, she is in the 97th percentile and even has a seven footer in the family tree.  This the place where all you other genetic mishaps get to chime in on the ins and outs of lording over the masses from on high.
Things I am interested in hearing about;
When you first touched the rim, first dunked, height at comparable age to Fedor Jr. and where you ended up, etc., etc, etc.

tall people are such clowns. put them in a circus tent and pay to see them.

There's several benefits of being tall. First, the fillies are going to love him. You better have a talk with him ASAP about the birds and the bee's. Also, ppl are always asking me to grab stuff on the top shelf for them. Also, I dunked a womens bball when I was 17. Also, he'll have a lot of advantages in sports. Make him a pitcher ASAP.

Negatives: Car rides, too tall! Clothing can get exspensive. Nothing fits right. Just because I wear a large, doesn't mean the sleeves will fit me at a normal store.

I was also almost exactly 6'1'' at that age. Ended up a little over 6'3''. People ask how I got so tall and I just say hard work and apple juice.

Being tall is awesome as F.

Clothes/shoes can be a pain to find like WC08 mentioned.

Atleast twice a year when I am in a rush getting dressed in the morning I will put my hand in the running ceiling fan, which is not a good time.

Finding a right sized little spoon is pretty rough too.

Also, short guys with small man syndrome really rough ridin' hate tall guys for some reason. Like they have this massive inferiority complex. It's pretty entertaining to watch them at the bars get all riled up.

Yes, I can already tell being tall is the best thing ever in the history of the world.  The birds and the bees talk has already happened, the girls cannot help themselves.  He has girls two grades older than him chasing him.  Clothes are a huge PITA, should we shop online or what?  We can never find anything that fits.

sd jr. is off the chart for height but they say it's 99th percentile. I argue with the pediatrician that since he's off the charts he should be 100%+ percentile but he says thats impossible. he gives 110% at being tall every day. it's you that isn't giving 100% doc. I'm only 6' so he'll prolly slip into double digits height % soon though. unless he has that gland issue that makes you george muresan tall  :crossfingers:

yeah, you look at the charts and a normal 6 year old can't ride most of the good disney world rides. meanwile 15 month old sdjr is the size of an average 4 year old and will be on space mountain in december at current growth rates.

Whoops... 6'4" dude coming through..

Yep. 6'5 here. I love being able to see everything when in a crowd. I also love being a beacon for people looking for me. I just flail my arms around to go even higher! (~81" wingspan :sdeek:)

CF3 (that's me!) was the tallest kid in his grade from kindergarten to 4th grade. Around 5th grade a few other A-Holes caught up. By 6th grade, I was just maybe above average and as tall as I stand before you here today on this blog. Lil' CF3 is following a similar pattern, but I expect he'll fall short of 6' just like I did.

And I'm not talking stacked on one another's shoulders -- 7 feet of pure Watusi.

Probably good enough to get scholarship offers more enticing than in-state tuition at K-State as opposed to a slight discount to Jewell, Benedictine, Bethel, et al, to play ball.

I've never had an issue flying, buying clothes, fitting into a desk, or working my way through a crowd. No back or knee problems to speak of either. Man, being an average height is pretty great! I'd hate to be one of those freaks that are too tall to properly function.

I am very tall(6'4") and I love it. Was always the tallest person in my class and don't run into many others that I see eye to eye with.  Was great for sports and I dunked a basketball for the first time as a junior in HS. That was also when I had my 2nd knee surgery and no dunking since.

The good things about being tall far outweigh the bad. The only thing that sucks is getting fitted for/and or buying suits. My shoulders are about as wide as a 500 lb persons so I can never find a jacket that fits my torso other than my shoulders.

6'2", but I didn't get "tall" until junior ish year of high school. I think 6' would be about perfect, tall enough to reach things and see over most people, but not tall enough to make buying clothes or sitting on a plane a hassle. Unintended consequence of being tall: I'm always worried people are going to see up my nose and see some nasty nose hair or bugger, so I always make sure the inside of my nose is looking fresh and clean.

I'm 6'3". I was 5'11" in 8th grade and that is when I first grabbed the rim. I dunked for the first time my sophomore year in HS. I have also worn a size 13 shoe since 8th grade.

Being tallish is pretty cool, except for car rides and public events. Seating is always uncomfortable. I also always have to have my chair really low in the workplace so I can fit my legs under the desk/keyboard. Ceiling fans occasionally attack your fingers as well.

Statistically taller people make more money so I think it's worth the dying earlier/joint and back problems. I don't trust short people.

I went from a 5'9" 8th grader to a 6'4" sophomore, ended up at 6'6" which is about the maximum before life becomes really difficult.

My inseam is 36, which is as long as they get at gap.com, haven't bought a pair of pants in a store in at least 10 years. Flights can suck but I've always managed to squeeze in, sometimes barely.

Best part of being tall, you put on few lbs. and nobody notices.

Worst part you put on a bunch of lbs. and scare small children.

You can learn a lot from searching Google Images.  I learned that there is a huge beef between talls and manlets.  This battle seems to be waged on bodybuilding forums, for the most part.  Also, apparently the height that correlates with the largest dating pool is 6'0".  Also, apparently shorter people can realize quicker gains than tallies.  Also, the manlets claim that the tallies have small wangs.

It must suck to be so tall that you can never be comfortable in a car, in a plane, at a football game, at a basketball game. Your knees must constantly be hitting other people's seats.

you honestly kind of get used to it*. I think this is why tall people die younger, because our legs are always scrunched up into our chests and it cuts off blood flow or something.

Online shopping has made this much easier for me.

Also, stop actually shopping for what you want and just ask what they actually have in your size immediately upon walking into the store.  Saves a lot of time

Being tall really does place an unfortunate ceiling on how beautiful you are.  Like the proportion of guys over 6'2" that are also just amazing looking is so incredibly small.  They are statistically speaking overwhelmingly more likely to be mediocre to ugly looking.  Sad really.  I mean they exist, but they might as well be unicorns for how often you actually see one.

Went to the doctor a week ago and thought I was 6'1" and turns out his super fancy calibrated thing said I am 6'4". Hot damn!

Seriously though, being tall is awesome.

Just so everyone knows, now that I'm pak'd.  I'm dating a d1 athlete that's as tall as me.  It's awesome. Our kids will rule, divorce or not.

Jabeez, I feel bad for your kids. You will end up on a message bragging about how awesome your kid is at whatever sport you have forced him into.

Also, Jabeez tried to autocorrect to Have ex.

Gonna win 'em all!

It must suck to be so tall that you can never be comfortable in a car, in a plane, at a football game, at a basketball game. Your knees must constantly be hitting other people's seats.

I was on a Southwest flight into KC with Manute Bol once. They just gave him the exit row and he was good to go. Had to bend over at the waist 90 degrees to walk down the center aisle though.

I collided with and got the better of him at this game.

Well to be honest,  She's actually pretty great outside of being tall and athletic.  I just really like that part too

You should say the sport.  It isn't impressive if it's like golf or cross country.

My advice- lead with the "pretty great" and then come at them with the, "as a bonus, she is tall and athletic" and as the closer, :fatty:

Then  and super jelly!
