3 meats go in, only one survives. which one is king of the old-school charcoal grilling with dad at the beach battle royale?
ya there's a lot of food that can go on the grill, but this is poll is focused on the OG's of the grill. back before spinach ever thought of shitting out kale. think "dad with a cold budweiser in one hand and a spatula in the other" type of grilling. the good crap.
for me, hamburgers are good grilled, fried, smoked, etc. but brats are exclusive to the grill. never heard of anyone frying one inside their house and if they did i would think that is weird. hot dogs are about 85% exclusive to the grill but are never bad and always 100% great.
yup, tough call that's why this is a battle royal and not just a regular steel cage death match.

burgers have the highest charcoal grilling ceiling. when at their best, cant be beat.
this should be indisputable.
-
Brats all day, son!
-
is there kraut available?
-
is there kraut available?
yes, all standard condiments for each OG meat
-
brat it is then!
-
i'm guessing seven voted for hot dog

Germans eat them year round, and probably have a similar grill/fry ratio as burgers do in the U.S.

Also innovators/champions at things made from unspeakable parts of animals.

Would take a perfectly grilled to med burg over a braut any day. :lick:
-
Burger,
Too many ways to do it. CAn't be beat.
-
FYI: The steak burger at the Anchor in Wichita is rough ridin' nails. They mix in pork fat and wrap in bacon.
-
I have had handmade brats that would change all of you burger guys' minds.
-
Oh i love brauts too. if i have to choose just one i'm going with burgers.
-
It's obviously brats. It's the only one of the three that requires no additional condiments. You don't even need a bun.
Cheese brats can gtfo btw.

nailed it
-
I just had two brats over lunch. :surprised:
-
what are your favorite brats?
beer? spicy? jalapeno cheddar? regular? pineapple? johnsonville? scimecas?
does anyone boil their brat prior to grilling? kind of cheating imo.
-
Spicy for sure!
-
I agree that burgers have the highest grilling ceiling, but if you are grilling, you must have brats. You can cook yourself a good hamburger anywhere, but a brat needs a grill (and yes I've had the German style fried brat, just doesn't do it).
For the record, beer brats are my favorite, with spicy a close second
-
i boil for like 3 or 4 minutes in beer then grill. boiling ensures they are cooked all the way through, i dont consider it to be cheating.
-
straight to the grill for ole meow meow, and usually beer brats (i add a little cayenne to them for a kick). any brats with cheese in them can gtfo.

you see, i think the number one mistake most people make when grilling a brat is that their temp is too high on the grill. slow and easy wins the brat race son. u digg
-
seriously who voted for the hot dog?
-
I grill them slow and low first and then finish them in the beer boil.
-
have you ever had a brat burger? I have and while you think it would be the best of both worlds, it just isnt. to me the most satisfying thing about a brat is when your teeth snaps through the casing and the juice squirts into your mouth

Guess what I put on my brats at lunch? Shredded chz, mustard, and ketchup. :lick: I had sweet potatoe chips on the side.

He said that all condiments are available so this is not a valid argument here. If he had said "Which meat do you prefer when you have no condiments to go with it?" then some people may have changed their answers.

It means that brats are the best because people don't have to make them taste like something else to enjoy them. I do like condiments on other things though.
Chili-cheese dog? You bet. Chicago dog? Yep. Mushroom swiss burger? Right on. Cheese on a brat? GTFO

They don't. :frown: Neither does the wheat. :frown:

i would beer simmer first and then sear on the grill to finish
-
eff cooking a brat
-
Had ground sirloin burgers on the weber. Medium rare, kaiser roll, garden tomatoes, grilled poblanos and vidalia onion.
would never pick a brat over that.

these are the absolute best

I'm a huge hot dog guy, but went with the burger. Brats aren't as versatile as a good beef frank, but the Burger's juiciness combined with it's versatility puts it over the top. Plus, I like hot dogs just as well boiled or steamed.
-
versatility??? what can a hot dog do that a brat can't except be enjoyed by children with undeveloped palates?

Is there such a thing as a chili brat?
