Title: Baylor
Post by: Powercat Posse on February 12, 2014, 10:32:40 PM
They have really struggled at home as of late, losing 4 in a row.  The numbers are just not good at all.

Game       PPP   eFG     2Pt     3Pt     TO%
OU(1-18)  0.96  45.8  18-39   6-20    17.2
UT(1-25)  0.85  34.8   15-39   3-17   18.3
WV(1-28)  1.02  56.8   10-24  10-20  27.0
KU(2-4)    0.79  39.4   10-35   6-20   16.7
4 gm Ave  0.90  42.3  38.7%  32.5% 19.5

They also are only grabbing 28.5 OR% in those 4 games
Defensively they are allowing 1.03 ppp and 47.8 eFG in those 4 (pretty decent)

* Heslip, who is shooting 48.9% from 3pt in Big 12 games was 10-25 in those 4.  He is a dangerous shooter and is shooting 8 3pt per game. We did a very good on Forte in Manhattan.  Got to have that same approach when guarding Heslip on Saturday
* Jefferson/Austin/Gathers only made 28-81 2pt shots (34.6%).  That's a big reason why Baylor only hit the 38.7 on 2pt shots

We have struggled with defense on the road.  KU, Isu and WV all have been pretty good offensive teams at home.  We need to make it difficult on Baylor and not let break out of the funk

I hate Baylor matchups, cause it doesn't matter where they're at in the season, they're always a ticking time bomb with that talent. Last year KU fell victim, who is it this year? :ohno:

I think we've won the last 3-4 games down there by 1-3 points, just going by memory.  This Saturday is scary as hell... They played & shot the ball out of their minds tonite and as they are very Jekyl & Hyde, who knows if they tank or play great.

They lit up TCU twice this year, but that isnt really saying much.  Tcu is giving up like 1.17 ppp

I am sure they are due for a decent or good offensive showing at home, but for whatever reason they have struggled of late.  We are the best defensive team in this league.  UT and KU (good and above ave teams on D) really shut them down.   I don't think any road game we have the rest of the season will be an easy game, but this game is very winnable for a lot of reasons

Yep.  We won by 3, 1 and 2 the last three times we have been down there

KU and Texas also matched up better due to size on the defensive end vs them.

I am very nervous for this game. While BU might not be playing well at home, we are not playing well at all on the road.

Weddings are the worst. Ditch your girl and tell her you don't need to participate in a ritual only serving to perpetuate an institution that deserves to die.

The Cats have been bad on the road. Even if you remove the game in Lawrence (Road 100 chart), K-State still got beat 1.09 - 1.00 in efficiency against UT, ISU, and WVU on the road.

I see 2 main areas of concern going into this game. First, BU is the best offensive boarding team in the league (OR% differential) and K-State needs to limit their 2nd shots. A big key in BU's losses to Top 100 teams at home is that they've played even on the offensive glass. Second, Baylor is the 2nd best 3PT shooting team in the league, hitting nearly 39.2% of their shots. This will be a real test for K-State's defense, especially with Baylor's length. Baylor blocks a lot of shots too, but it doesn't translate into great 2PT% defense as Big 12 teams shoot nearly 52% on 2s against them.

K-State's bad offense on the road should be able to get healthy against the Bears because Baylor's eFG% defense is awful (53.3% eFG%, last in the Big 12) and they don't force TOs (16.0, 8th in the Big 12). If the Cats can be reasonable on the offensive glass (<5% advantage for BU), shoot even on 3s, and win the battle on 2s (something K-State has been very good at) the Cats should get their 2nd road win of the year.

Cats 71 Bears 65

Baylor just dominated Tcu both games on OR%.   They got 60% and 59%. The other 9 games they only got 33.9% on average. That makes me feel a little better than we can keep them under 35%

Just strange the Baylor is shooting 44.1% 3pt on the road and only 32.0% 3pt at home in Big 12 games.  I remember a few years, we were that way.... hitting like 27% at home and 38% on the road.

Everyone not named Heslip is shooting 33.8%, so they are decent even if you take out his 48.9% and 8 3PTAs per Big 12 game.

I don't think that it is a fact that he sucks he just can't score. Remember, Felix from Texas was not a good scorer last year and he was just a guy who could distribute the basketball which is what Jevon can do. Felix, this year can score with some of the best in the league.

They have really struggled at home as of late, losing 4 in a row.  The numbers are just not good at all.

Yes, then they destroyed us, especially in the 2nd OT.

I am just glad that Baylor is the one that destroyed us in OT.   If it had been KU that destroys us in OT (and we beat Baylor).... I would be soooooooo more disgusted and disappointed FAN.

This one sucks.  Sucks bad. But this whole week I would have wanted to sleep all day if we had lost to KU....lol.    Beating Baylor in OT would have done little to cure my "KU meltdown" blues

a ritual only serving to perpetuate an institution that deserves to die.

I'm guessing you are either referring to the state or religion because marriage seems to be recognized by most, if not all, cultures.

This one's on me guys. Should have never went the whole marriage is bad bad bad route when I knew we were playing the Baptists.

My problem is not so much with religion or the state,  just the expectations that come with the spectacle of marriage. But that's a story for another board.

The same concerns apply as in Waco, Baylor hits the boards at an incredible rate and they can hit 3s. However, they have played terrible defense on the road (1.24 ppp!), though they've managed a couple of decent wins (OSU, WVU).

However, this is in the OOD where the Cats have been excellent, especially on defense. I just don't see a Scott Drew team, who out toughed us at their place, coming in here and doing that again. I think the Cats play really well and win this thing soundly.

Cats 78 - Bears 67

He also was on 810 before their home game vs KU (Baylor was coming off of 6 pt win in Stillwater). And  he thought BU was gonna beat the squawks.  They lost by 17.

As much crap as I like to talk on ISU fans, Baylor fans are a special kind of delusional.

He also said it would be a big upset for Baylor to win. They shouldn't win, and likely won't, but he can't say that.

My only concern about Baylor is not the numbers, but that they do seem to be pissing on our parade a lot the past couple years. I'd like to go back to not giving a crap about Baylor.
