Its often said that you make your own breaks. K-State had chances to do just that and were on the verge of taking control of a close game on the road, but when you miss that many shots at the basket, especially in the stretch run, the home team most often is going to win.

Gip played a fantastic game, but still had a key miss down the stretch.

When Southwell and Foster go 8-24 and 2-12 from 3 its going to be tough to win any game.

Felix and Ridley were too much.

Disappointing loss and a missed opportunity.

Being in a road game with our top 2 shooters struggling means something. We have come along way. But this sucks right now.

Too many missed layups and free throws, too many times getting whacked driving the lane without a call and too many of Felix's prayers answered.

Basically crap away a game we should have won by 5-15 points.

I don't get the bubble talk, UT is a top 50 team and this was a roadie.  Still sitting pretty.

Really thought we would steal one after that lucky layup and ridley fouling out.  Had a good chance to win in OT

Yeah, this is a loss that affects your seed maybe, but not the bubble. Still very disappointing to be on the verge of taking control of a game on the road and not doing so. I also thought we would steal it after the tie and especially after Texas' 2nd timeout. Bad mistake by Gip on the final shot.

Bubble Team :frown:

Before this game we were probably a 6-7 seed, so not close to the bubble.      We are probably gonna lose in Ames, so that meens the game at WV is a game we really need.    I really don't want to see us be 5-4 at the halfway mark.

I just mean it tells me about this team. I was hoping we were better than that.  I agree it won't effect seeding or anything.

Losing to Texas blurs my vision. :frown:

Agreed, probably would've taken before conference play started. But not after starting 4-1.

I was a little surprised we didn't have Shane on Holmes last play, and then have Gip (or even Nino) on Lambert.  Lambert sure as heck was not going to shoot the game winner.  Holmes did little tonight, but he hit a game winner from 3 last year if I remember right (in the exact same spot)

oscar's only losses on the road in big 12 play are squawks, pokes, flood Aggie, and the University of Texas. Probably the best bball coach in K-State's Big 12 history.

Yes, I was a bit surprised by that too, but I think they were probably worried that if we put Shane on Holmes they'd just clear out and post him since they only needed a 2.

While the offense wasn't great, we still ended up allowing Texas to score 1.07 points per possession and that's just not good enough to win road games. We played solid defense the 2nd half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 1st half. We got the pace we wanted at 63 possessions, but didn't take advantage of it. I also liked that when 3s didn't fall in the 1st half we made a real effort to get the ball inside. We just made too many mistakes late in each half and that let Texas make the plays they needed to win.

As usual we did a nice job only allowing UT to shoot 12 3s and hit only a 25% clip.    If you are only gonna force a TO% of 15.9 and let them get a 41% OR (they had 13 2nd chance pts), then u cant allow them to shoot 51% from 2pt.    All 3 of those not being great  and that had a lot to do with UT getting that 1.07 PPP

Watching I felt that Gip played a whale of the game in close, really attacked, but he "forced" more shots than we are going to get away with if we are going to win.  It may be a give and take, but there were many opportunities that I feel were lost from Gip putting up a bad shot.  Still, a lot of this was probably due to him having what was overall a pretty phenomenal game.  Almost like a heat check for an inside guy, except instead of tossing up an open 24-footer he was trying to put up a shot where he didn't really have position/ leverage or wasn't as deep as he needed to be.

I didn't see the game...did Nino not play much?  He didn't have much in the way of stats.

That's a pretty good assessment, but I think that was in part by design.

In the first half Gip was 5 of 6 (19% of our shots) with 10 points. The rest of the team was 9 of 25. I think there was a clear directive to keep feeding Gip.

In the 2nd half Gip was 5 of 12 (40% of our shots) with 14 points. The rest of the team was 7 of 18.

He finished a solid 10 of 18, but the 2nd half was inefficient enough that it probably took away from other things that we do well. I understand going away from shooting 3s when we only went 3 of 12 in the first half, but only 4 3PTAs in 30 FGAs is getting out of balance for our offense.

Granted, we still had a ton of good looks in the 2nd half and Thomas and Foster going 1-9 combined was a big factor along with Gip being more inefficient than he was in the first half.

Regardless, our defense wasn't good enough to win (K-State has won 1 game a year on the road when giving up 1.07 ppp going back the last 5-6 years) despite doing a great job of controlling the pace.

Wish Foster could have played more down the stretch, but meh. Just one of those games.

Yeah, I wouldn't imply he was why we lost the came, much the opposite in fact. Just that his success might have led to some failure in the second. Still a warrior and his game would have been talked about all season if we'd won.

Play of the game: skip pass to Thomas in the corner, he has the (kind of) open three. He turns it down and they swing to an open Southwell, in rhythm and he drains it.  Great play.

Yeah Gip may have forced a shot or two, but he also had shots where he made 2-3 moves (so he forced the action) and got a nice shot off.
He had 2 shots right at the goal that were not contested that he wishes he could have back.  That's the only real negative I can find.  He makes those 2 and he finishes 12-18 and perfect 4-4 from FT line.

Too many missed outside shots early.   Shane did  knock down a couple 16-17 footers in the 2nd half, but he and Foster started 1-10 from deep and they finished 2-12

13 2nd chance pts  we allowed, and UT had 3 transistion hoops at the bucket in the first half I believe.  Not good enough

Yes, too many good looks for UT. They made their fair share of tough looks, but that happens. It's the easy ones that hurt.

Bubble Team :frown:

calm the eff down.

Sweep Tech. TCU at home. Texas at home. Baylor at home, ISU split? , KU loss. I still see 6-7 more conference wins. Winning on the road against good teams will be a chore if we don't have Foster playing better.

Win 2 more on the road and only 1 home loss (we know who this is) and we're in good shape. Get to 10 conference wins and I'll feel pretty decent going into the conference tournament.

This thread makes me reflect on how easy it is to be at least on the bubble, and how bad Wooly was that we were never better than the NIT bubble.

You can lose a lot and be a bubble team

Wooly lost at least 4 conference games at home every season and only had a few road wins.

All I could think about yesterday evening was McGruder' shot last year to beat Baylor and that CARMA can be a BITCH! :bang:

This is the game I immediately thought of, too. I think Gip had fouled out which would've favored Baylor in OT.

Our ST% has gone in the garbage since the start of big 12 play. In conference we are last in ST%, last year we lead the league. This is super frustrating.
