Arrowhead was about 60-65% OU fans for that game.  They were running their mouths before the game about how this was the best team in the history of college football and by the end of the third quarter they were running out of the stadium.  We moved down like 20 rows for the fourth quarter.   It was a great night.  :D

I remember there was a lot of BOOMER - SOONER going on as I walked into the game. Not so much after.

I also remember it was rough ridin' freezing that night. One of the coldest sporting events I've ever attended.

I also remember Jason White got so thoroughly demolished that game that he couldn't even remove his own helmet after.

And Sproles.... My god.

Date: Dec. 6, 2003
Place: Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Mo.
Score: Kansas State 35, Oklahoma 7

Top-ranked Oklahoma was on the verge on running the table en route to a perfect season and a trip to the BCS championship game when it entered the title game aiming for their third championship in the last four seasons.

Kansas State had struggled earlier in the year, losing at home to Marshall, the start of a three-game losing streak. A trip to the Big 12 title game after an 0-2 conference start wasn't even a consideration for the Wildcats until they caught fire late in the season.

A stout KSU defense that had allowed only 39 points in its last five regular-season games was the reason the Wildcats claimed the North title. That group would be tested by an explosive Sooner offense keyed by Jason White.

The Sooners looked ready to continue that run after KeJuan Jones scored on a 42-yard run less than three minutes into the game on the Sooners' fourth play from scrimmage.

But when usually reliable kicker Trey DiCarlo shanked a 44-yard field goal to start the second quarter, KSU had an opening. And the Wildcats took advantage of it immediately as diminutive tailback Darren Sproles gashed the Sooners on a 55-yard run on the next play. Quarterback Ell Roberson hooked up with Brian Casey on a 19-yard TD pass three plays later to tie the score.

Roberson, a streaky quarterback during much his career at KSU, gave the Wildcats the lead for good on a 63-yard strike to James Terry 2:23 later. It typified a tough night for Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, who had announced several days earlier he would accept the vacant coaching job at Arizona after the championship game.

Oklahoma, which had averaged 56.5 points in its last four games before the championship game, also struggled with offensive mistakes. A dropped pass by Jejuan Rankins killed the next drive on fourth down. And White was victimized on an end zone interception on the Sooners' next possession.

Sproles provided another big play shortly before halftime when he scooted 60 yards on a screen pass for a touchdown to give the Wildcats a 21-7 halftime edge.

The Sooners took the opening drive of the second half, but came up empty after a seven-minute drive when DiCarlo hooked a 28-yard field goal attempt.

Kansas State answered with an 80-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 10-yard strike from Roberson to Antoine Polite with 3:02 left in the third quarter.

And with 10:16 left, Kansas State linebacker Ted Sims snatched a White interception and rambled on a 27-yard TD return to ice the victory.

The stunning upset brought the Wildcats their first conference football championship since winning the Big Six in 1934, capping the biggest victory during LHC Bill Snyder's coaching tenure.

They said it, part I: "We just got our butt whipped. I'm not going to sit here and lobby our way into a bowl game. If the BCS says we're in, we're in," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, after his team's loss.

They said it, part II: "Let the little man run it. If they don't respect him, we'll throw it. That's what it came down to," Kansas State quarterback Ell Roberson, describing the Wildcats' heavy use of Darren Sproles in the upset.

They said it, part III: "Our D-line was making him scramble all day and really getting to his head. He was so scared," Kansas State linebacker Josh Buhl, describing to the Associated Press the Wildcats' strategy against Jason White.

They said it, part IV: "They put pressure on us and got to us a few times. They hit us where we are weak," Oklahoma quarterback Jason White.

Factoids: Oklahoma's defense came into the game allowing only 234 yards per game. But they were gashed by Sproles, who rushed for 235 yards on 22 carries -- most ever gained against an Oklahoma defense to that point in its history. Sproles also added three receptions for 88 yards ... Roberson did the rest, completing 10-of-17 passing for 227 yards and four TDs and adding 62 rushing yards ... Coming into the game, Oklahoma's defense had surrendered only seven touchdown passes all season ... Kansas State blistered the Sooners for 519 yards on 58 plays, an average of 8.94 yards per snap ... The loss snapped a 14-game winning streak for the Sooners, longest in the nation at the time of the game ... The seven points were the lowest point total ever for a team coached by Bob Stoops ... The victory was the first time that Kansas State beat a No. 1 ranked team in 10 tries ... White struggled with Kansas State's "Purple on White" defensive scheme. He completed 27-of-50 passes for 298 yards, but was intercepted twice. ... The Sooners produced only one score despite advancing inside Kansas State territory four times in the first half ... DiCarlo's two misses came after he had converted 19 of 20 field-goal attempts for the season coming into the game.

The upshot: Oklahoma's upset loss threw the Bowl Championship Series into turmoil when the Sooners fell to No. 3 in both major polls after the game. But they remained No. 1 in the final BCS poll, qualifying for a shot at the national championship against LSU in the Sugar Bowl. But the Tigers claimed a 21-14 victory over the Sooners -- the first of Stoops' current streak of five consecutive BCS bowl losses.

That loss dropped the Sooners to 12-2 for the season as they finished No. 3 in the final Associated Press poll.

Despite the loss against Kansas State, White won the Heisman Trophy the week after the game. He nosed out Pittsburgh wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald by 128 points to become the first Oklahoma quarterback to win the award.

Kansas State's victory boosted the Wildcats into the Fiesta Bowl in their first BCS bowl trip in school history. But Ohio State claimed a 35-28 victory in that game, snapping the Wildcats' seven-winning streak coming into the game. Kansas State finished the season 11-4 and No. 14 in the final AP poll.

It was a magical night. Cold? Nope, I was basking in the warm glow of overflowing EMAWness. Plus, there were plenty of Tostitos flying around to cover up with (or maybe it was the Red Hot I was pouring into my hot chocolate?). I was there with the Mrs. (also an EMAW), an EMAW friend and another friend who is a Longhorn fan. Not sure who enjoyed it more.

Anybody remember that little kid that some OU fans put a leather helmet on, gave him a mini-football and painted him gold, and then they held him up on a pedestal so he could pose like the Heisman trophy? Just bizarre!

A friend of ours who is from Oklahoma had his brother - a HUGE and obnoxious Sooner fan - in town. We had dinner with them the night before since he was up in KC for the game. I called over there after the game to see how he felt about the result. Turns out he was so mad that he (+ wife & little sooners) drove home that night instead of staying the few extra days he was planning.  :ksu:

Still the best game I have ever see live. 10 rows back on the 45. That year I traveled to the Cowboys game to watch us lose. But I saw us win from the front row on the 45, right there in the Nebraska alumni section. One of my best memories was when I knew the game was over... I looked behind me and saw all the sad faces of the Nebraskans.
But still, the best game of the year, and best game in KSU history, IMO, was this KSU v OU championship game at Arrowhead.

The TD to Terry....... might be the most I've ever gone bananas for a TD.

Probably my favorite KSU play of all time.  I told my friend before the play that they were gonna go up top to JT on play-action.

Mus - Ell Roberson, on a play fake, with a deep drop on first down...takes it down the left sideline, wants Terry. Terry's got it! Headed for the endzone, K-State leads it! James Terry from Homestead, Fla. on a 63-yard homerun from Ell Roberson! The Oklahoma fans are stunned!

Of course I didn't hear that call years later because I was just to the right of the TD Pack Band's shell getting my crap shook by my friend as the play unfolded.

My call went something like this (yelling to my friend and anyone else in earshot) - Before the  play --> First down, we're goin up to to JT.  I can feel it.  Play action deep to JT.  Then during as I see the play-action --> Oh, JT!?! Oh, OHhh, JT, JT! And when he catches it and the defenders fall it's just berserk --> JT! JT! YES!!! YESS! JT!! I TOLD YOU!!!! Then my other friend who was standing in front turns around and just violently starts shaking me.

One of the best moments ever.  Pure hyperenergized bliss.

I lived in Dallas at the time and me and my girlfriend went to the game, she lived in Medicine Lodge. On Sunday I purchased the Kansas City Star, Wichita Eagle, and The Oklahoman. I also go shoe polish and wrote the score on my passenger back window, 2003 Big 12 Champs on the driver back window, and "best team ever, O Who?" on the rear windshield. I also intentionally made 2 stops in OKC, 1 in Moore, and 1 in Norman on the back to Dallas. It took a little of the LOL away from me when they were selected for the BCS championship anyway.

Oh yeah one more thing I forgot about, when I was driving to the game through OKC the Sports Animal had ads on for some t-shirt company advertising that they would be selling Big 12 Champion and BCS shirts, I didn't think we'd win but that angred me up. I called them on monday and asked them if they were still selling Big 12 Champion shirts and they hung up on me.

I was at a high school dance that night. We left the house and it was 0-7. We got a few minutes away and realized we forgot the corsage. We drove back to my house and I walked and the first thing I saw was Terry grabbing the ball for the second K-State TD.

All night I kept ditching my girlfriend to call my parents to ask for updates. I kept telling her, "no you don't understand, nothing good ever happens to K-State." Literally everytime I called, something good would happen. The Polite TD, their missed FG, and Sims' interception. Eventually I found out that a kid I knew had brought a tiny TV to the dance and a bunch of sports fans (KU and K-State alike, Beems was even there) so I watched that rest of it there. I was really, really bummed when Sproles didn't get that last TD.

I took my Dad and we sat on the 45 in the upper deck.  We were surrounded by loud Okies and particularly this one that was shouting  into another KSU fans ear that was next to us. He was jawing before the game about how great they were and after we went down 7 he was "there's more where that came from"  As the half unfolded this dumb red dirt trash became speechless with a deer in the headlights look. Luckily for us he didn't come back after the half.

When my dad dropped me off in Manhattan that night we hugged for the like the first time in ages. The win transcended emotions that went beyond the game of football.  It was huge!!

I can't even tell my story.

Unless you killed a guy, the statue of limitations is up.

I'm currently staring across the room at the couch I was jumping up and down on. mhDad wouldn't take him to the game with him because it was "too cold" for young mh.  :don'tcare:

30% sprinted/ 70% skipped up my cozy quiet Lenexa street at the end of the game with a large KSU flag.  Made a few screamy noises. Turned around and skipped right back home.  Wore a hideous ksu tie on Monday.

I was over at my girlfriend's house in Lenexa for something that night, I don't remember what, some dinner party with friends I think.  I went downstairs after food and turned the game on (promised I wouldn't) just to see how bad OU was wrecking our crap.  Turned it right on before JT caught that TD and before I knew it I was jumping on the couch and screaming like a girl.

I didn't leave the couch that night.  An ex now of course.  Whatever.  Cats, man.

I had a KU friend asking me for insidery info early that week.  He said "dude are you going to cover that spread (like 14.5)?"

I said, "Dino-Crisis, we are going to win the game.  There's a lot to be said for the team with nothing to lose."

He didn't take my advice.

Wonder if he ever paid up

yeah.  he paid his bookie.  he didn't take my advice and bet on the KSU Wildcats.
