What is this?
-
did you get one? i never got one since it's a "dummy" device that still ties up your laptop, phone, etc
-
chromecast will do netflix, YouTube and I believe it will soon do Hbogo independently.
I used chromecast for kstatehd Ula game and it was a constant 97% usage on my pc and the picture was only acceptable imo.
-
Wireless device that will display the contents of the Chrome web browser on a screen with HDMI in. So anything you can view on your computer in Chrome you can view on the chromecast. E.g - Pandora, Netflicks, Watch ESPN, FirstRow, etc. Good get for $30
-
Makes your tv a second monitor for your computer (and for specific things like youtube, netflix, etc., your phone/ipad).
So you're reading gE, and there's a link to a youtube video or something, you click on it and have it play on your tv and keep reading gE on your computer.
-
If it's killing your computer performance, you'll need to upgrade to a modern processor. My Dell E6400 lags with its Duo Core processor. I use it with a tablet or phone for YouTube and Netflix. Works just fine.
-
Haven't had any problems with it either. What kind of stone age machine are you guys running?
-
The need to work out the bugs with streaming video from other video hosting sites, other than youtube. For the most part, it's great.
-
Its great. No issues. Just wish I could stream from more sources.
FWIW I don't think it bogs down computer. The device has its own processor. Its basically a cell phone minus the screen speaker. Like that FXI Cotton Candy.

Not when tab casting. It relies on your laptop micro to get things done.

So I absolutely need a newish laptop to make it worth anything. If I already have a Roku, is there any reason besides Kstate HD games?
-
I would say no. Apple TV is the sports fans best choice due to Watch ESPN and exclusive Fox Sports Go app for FS1 games IF you have the right provider- I know uverse works

Do you have a smartphone? iPad? Those are the only two interfaces I use with it. It's only $35. :dunno:
-
sdbro has two of them. seems to like them. uses them for netflix tv show binges.

A good laptop will allow you to cast a Chrome tab. Thus, you can watch anything not just one of the few apps that work with Chromecast.

My point being that $35 is nothing, so why worry about "worth it?" Netflix/Youtube from mobile devices make the $35 worth it on their own.
-
So it works with my iPad, si?

Understood and good point.

yep
you can't tab cast w/ a tablet. so for lsoc's purpose of casting kstatehd games, no.

If you have an iPad definitely rock the Apple TV. Worth the extra change.

Hey it's worth $35! :shakesfist:
-
tablets can cast hulu/netflix type streaming stuff though. but tab casting is relegated to pc/laptops.

i heard ksu students can get it for $30

We just use it for Netflix and the occasional Youtube. Is nice when you dont know what movie to watch so you and all your bros can individually look at Netflix and then whoever finds the best movie can just play it from their phone.

If you want to chromecast whatever you're interwebbing, you have to do it from a computer's chrome browser. I don't think it has to be a laptop or really anything great other than having chrome browser. For thinks like youtube, netflix, etc., within those apps on ipads/phones should be the chromecast button and you can cast from them.

eff this noise yo

interesting. Must be my router not playing nicely. I can't make any laptop or my desktop cast when wired.

I am just using the standard att uverse combo modem-router
-
Shitty Insight rapes you for a wireless setup. I have a Linksys router. After some Googling, it does have issues with Chromecast. Guess I'll be getting an upgraded router soon.
-
Little brother got me one for Christmas, excited to play around with it.
-
roommate at school has it. i really like it.
-
Got one for Christmas this year and I like being able to watch TPB and daviskb. Has anyone found other cool and free stuff to watch?

I use it for Netflix, youtube, watchespn (watched the 'cats saturday while purdue-penn st was finishing up) and for my Plex server which is the main reason I got it. Works awesome for all of these functions. also great for casting pandora (no spotify support yet) there are a lot of apps this thing works with. for $35 I can't think of a reason not to get one.
