Now that it is evident that this team is complete :bs:, the only thing that brings me happiness is looking forward to next year! I think we might be good:
-#55 is gone. (I am no longer using his name)
-We have a front court
-Edwards/Foster dynamic duo scoring threat
-Full season of Jevon who I've heard from insidery source will live up to the bill
-Hopefully Krap is bruced
-#55 is gone.
oscar, I'm giving you a pass this year but if you suck it up next year too, then :Flamethrower:
-
#team2015NCAAorbust
-
Won't it be exactly the same unless Hurt is really good? :dunno:
Seems like no wins if no bigs.
-
You can win without bigs if you have awesome shooters. I remember each time we'd be recruiting during Wooly someone would be like "This is a sweet sixteen team in 2005" or whatever.
-
the cuts in our motion offense will be so sharp guys

A lineup of Edwards, Thomas, Bolden, Hurt, and [insert 5th player here (Clark?)] would beat any 5 that we could put on the court today.
-

But we will have what sounds like at least one decent guard and Nigel could turn into something decent. I mean, it's a ways out there, but we have made things work with one good guard and some talented small forward work. :dunno:
Also, isn't Bolden like 6'-10"?
I actually think that next yr and the following yr could be pretty entertaining. Especially if that rich Dallas walk on is used they way he should be(see Manning and Self).

Lot of teams could beat any 5 we put on the court today. Need higher standard.

Even though its a pretty small sample size, from what I've seen of Hurt I was impressed (double-double against Nerlens Noel). At the very least, we have much more depth in the front court, and players whose heights are appropriate for the position. Bolden is probably gonna be a FP but I thought I heard somewhere that he looks good in practice?

FPs usually look good in practice cause they go 75% when everyone else is going 50%.
this becomes an issue during actual gameplay

And that's exactly why I'm looking forward to next year. #teamstillgivesashit, tho.

You have to assume at least 2 of the players we are counting on for next year to even be somewhat better than shitty will transfer. :flush:
-
even if bolden is an fb, having a 6-11 guy to at least cower under the basket would be an improvement.

The lineup and talent next year looks better on paper but this team is soft man. oscar is making these guys soft and I don't konw how you get around that. We'll never have so much talent here that we can be pussies and still win. Unless one of these new guys is just a badass in your face leader than we're pretty much screwed.
-
Jevon, Edwards, Foster, Gip, Hurt
-
Jevon, Edwards, Foster, Gip, Hurt
And Westicles, Nigel and Bolden(Shot blocker) providing depth. The current team has really shitty depth, youth and no point guard. Hopefully we shake those problems coming in to next year.
-
Jevon, Edwards, Foster, Gip, Hurt
Pretty sure you only have one (Foster) good three-point shooter there out of five. That won't work for oscar, not at all. Also, oscar has no idea what to do with two guys like Gip and Hurt in the paint at the same time. He doesn't do high-low motion, or at least he doesn't do it well. He remains true to his patented 5-man motion.
They take advantage of the "soft" spots on the floor, the short corner and high post. They usually start in a 5-out or 1-2-2 set with a ball-screen then a roll to the basket. There is not traditional post-up. The ball is constantly reversed while the weak side executes screen and replace. With all the constant movement, precise cuts, and screening, the defense usually gets caught out of position.
Unless one of those two can pick and pop, they won't play at the same time.
“Closer isn’t always better,” Weber said of K-State’s shot selection earlier this season. “Open is better.”
The worst thing you can do is lie to yourself about the future. He's still recruiting a team he can't win with. Athletic slashers and beefy post men, not three-point marksmen and pick-and-pop jump shooters. He won't change his offense for them, but he will blame them when they can't run it effectively.
-
I hate him.
-
Jevon, Edwards, Foster, Gip, Hurt
Pretty sure you only have one (Foster) good three-point shooter there out of five.
yeah, that team would not win much.
-
Edwards can shoot 3's, tho. And Jevon can get them open!
-
Have also heard that Hurt has range, like, 3-pt range. :crossfingers:
Can't confirm, tho.
-
We will still have oscar so we're going to suck.

I don't want to believe this

He shot 26% and 27% his two years at Maine. Maine.

Meh I like him as more of a slasher anyway.

oscar gets this year and whatever crap-show it ends up being and next year, but next year is #team2015NCAAorbust. Of course if he scrapes a .500 conference record/NIT he's probably going to get at least another year. It is what it is.

Mr. Bread managed to make me feel worse about this team and its future......
Edwards can't shoot the three either..... are you freaking serious!!!!!!

Except for when you get a thousand times worse, hopefully this doesn't happen very often.

Hearing Edwards, Foster, Westicles, Gip, Hurt. Can you imagine the awesomness?
I've talked to a couple people who have sat in on practices that say Edwards is the real deal. I either forgot or never knew that Edwards played PG at Maine at times. And based on Jevon's regression (that may be a strong word) I think this would be a really amazing line-up.

I didn't realize that Edwards played point at Maine...do you think he played enough of it to beat out Jevon/Nigel, or would he be more effective being the first guard off the bench?
-
Serious question... Does our offense require a true PG? It doesn't seem to. Will brings the ball up the court, but often times it seems that after that the 3 guard positions are interchangeable. Same goes for Nigel is in the game. It's a little different with JT since he is so limited shooting the ball.
This could change if we do go to a more traditional 3 out/2 in offense with Hurt and Gip next year, tho...
EDIT: I noticed Wes bringing the ball up a few times the past few games. Point forward? :dunno:

oscar likes to have a "true" PG, but he's flexible with who brings the ball up.
-
don't rule DJamer out next year for some big minutes. look at his progression this year. he will be very solid and it will be nice to have some depth at big man.

and his best team played 2 points in Dee Brown and Deron Williams.
I like the potential for Jevon to create easy baskets, something our offense has trouble doing, especially in conference when teams have a pretty good handle on how to defend us. This will be even more of issue next year if we don't have the 3 point threat at the 4 that Shane gives. I guess I am hoping that Wes can put on a few pounds and continue the improvement in his 3 point shooting and at least give us the option of 4 in - 1 out.
I don't know if they can dboard enough but I love the idea of JT/NJ, Foster, Edwards, Westicles and Gip lineup with all the perimeter guys attacking off the dribble while bouncy Gip looks for drop offs and tip dunks.

really wish he would work on his back to the basket play, though. he seems to have the pick and roll thing down and when he gets to the rim he often finishes. the back to the basket game must be awful because we never give him the ball there. even if he gets just one solid move down, it would be a big help for when gip goes out and DJamer comes in. gip was pretty effective in using one move his freshman year for the most part, then evolved.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if Marcus is the only one who plays 25+ mpg next season. So much depth! :emawkid:
-
Will be really interesting to see the difference between the bigger lineups with Gip/Hurt/Bolden/DJamer at the 4 and 5, and the smaller lineups with Nino/Wes at the 4 and then one of the bigs at the 5.

Never

We have 6 players (Gip, Hurt, DJamer, Bolden, Nino, recruit) for 2 spots in our frontcourt next year. We have six players (Jevon, Nigel, Foster, Harris, Wes, Edwards) for 3 spots in our backcourt, and I think Harris will probably redshirt. So, why do people want to move Wes to the 4????
-
We're going to win the Big 12 at least once with Foster. Mark it down.

Maybe point forward that some have alluded to earlier. Shane 2.0? I don't think it would be as much of moving him to the 4, but maybe oscar would want some lineup that has Nigel/Jevon and Edwards and Foster on the court at the same time.

It's possible that it could be used in certain situations, but I don't think it will be a lineup you see very often at all. There's a reason that oscar is still recruiting another power forward.

I'll buy that. My take is that if I can recall correctly, oscar has had very few lineups this year that didn't include Jevon/NuWill/Nigel at the point. Unless Edwards or Foster takes over some of those minutes from Will leaving at the point, you're almost forced to have Edwards and Foster at the 2 and 3 when they're in together.
-
Putting Shane at the 4 was probably oscar's best coaching move since he's been here and it would be a shame if he didn't try to do the same with Westicles.
-
We should be very good next year. I'm thinking 4 seed or better type good.
-

Absolutely. Do NOT want Wes working on his outside shot. He is going to be a nightmare as a rebounder/put back/junk baller. He already has an insane FTr for the position he plays and he could be an enormous asset going forward. The last thing we need is for him to turn in to a jump shooter.

Edwards played some point out of necessity but I'd call it more bringing the ball up more than playing point guard. Not only don't I think he can or will do that at this level (he was a turnover machine in the America East) but I think having him bring the ball up doesn't give him the best opportunity to take advantage of his strengths.
Also for those wondering and I'm sure most of you were, the Maine Black Bears were absolutely dreadful this year. We, yes we, lost our 3 best players from last year's team, including a dude who left early to play pro in Germany. We won only 6 damn games all season, swept those heathens at New Hampshire though so that's good. Gonna get killed by Stony Brook in the first round of the America East tournament tomorrow.

IMO, he is easily the most talented player on our team.
-
I want Westicles to both play at the 4 and work at his outside shot.
-
Westicles is awfully slender to be defending the post at 6' 7". Maybe oscar will surprise me, but I bet Westicles continues to play the wing. Unless Edwards is a lot better than I think he is, then picking up Foster and Westicles's minutes when they need a rest will be just about right for him.

he's no more slender than Jamar.

The next Durant. I'm telling you now.
Edit: Sorry if luk'd but I love the way Wes and Marcus find each other for alley-oop jams. I predict that this will = multiple fistpump moments in 14-15
