So, $35 off the face value is basically free right? It's be much more convenient for me if they just had a big stack of them on a table at Bob's Diner or something.

It would be a whole lot better if you duct taped a pillow to your gut and tucked in an XXL K-State Polo tucked into your Levi jeans. Then when Henderson starts his antics, slowly stand up and shake your head at him.

I would call Adam at the number listed in the first post, he'll probably cut you a deal. Or maybe wait for tomorrow's ticket promotion e-mail, they may offer them for free in that.

If I'm wrong on this, I'll admit to being wrong.

I know this sounds kind of nutty given the fact that the old regime did very little if anything of significance to fill empty seats.

If K-State has sold about 12,000 season tickets than that leaves about 6-800 unsold seats per game.   This is better than waiting around hoping for that many walk-ups because there probably isn't going to be that many walk-ups for a lot of those games.

Folks, nothing builds a resume for an AD like sold out sports venues.

You gotta think a little here.
Title: Re: Woof (now various ticket promotions related thread)

Currie will effect the sales as much as possible and more than a normal AD.  oscar is his only hire so far and if Currie wants out, he has to have someone to point to as a successful hire.  Otherwise, he has to wait until Bill gives up, and Currie doesn't have what it takes to win that battle and come out well thought of.

My daily emails/texts/calls from K-State indicate they haven't.

So, those emails say how many season tickets have been sold?   Interesting if so.

Trim, one day soon you are going to say "yes" then they are going to mush your face and let you know that they never had any tickets since all have been sold out and that they have been baiting you as revenge for that hurtful survey.

They may go as far as putting you on hold once you say yes only to have Currie pick up the phone and do the mushing.

That makes a lot more sense than that they haven't sold out their 12,000 season tickets.  Thanks CNS.  Sometimes I wish Dax was more straightforward and would cut to the chase.

Where did I say everything is great?

Just because you have a perpetual level of massive butthurt because your no recruiting hero up and bailed on K-State because he wasn't going to be able to mentally handle the downward trajectory that he created . . . and that Currie didn't subsequently hire somebody off of Bleacher Reports list of "up and coming" mid major coaches (while you and others fap it over a list of guys who are never, ever going to be walking the K-State sidelines) doesn't mean you (and others) have to spew forth nothing but pure hate 24/7/365 on this board, and I'm about as far away as you can get from being a Tuck.

The list of ppl that will never walk our sideline should be the short list in Currie's pocket in case oscar or Bill die today.

If it isn't, then it should be torn up and thrown away.

Self limitations are the worst.

you didn't. but there also weren't "resident haters think(ing) the absolute worst" and that was my point, dork. we are people on a message board discussing what we think is going on based on the information that is available to us. that's kind of what we do around here. do think they've sold about 12K? also, what is your definition of about? 10.5? 11?

Reality says many guys on the wish list are not coming to K-State.   Too many examples of fanbases thinking "they'll be lined up to coach here".

Some guys are just better at mid-majors and oscar may be one of them.

I definitely don't think that anyone has lined up to coach here other than Gottlieb and Undy in the recent past.  That said, our AD sat in a hotel room in Dallas and seems to have made three phone calls: 1. to some buddy consultant and asked him how much money he could pass to him during this process, 2. Gene Keady(sp?). and 3. oscar.

There is a big rough ridin' gap in doing what I say should be done and doing what Currie did.  It doesn't take butthurt to think so.

Well, we know that a consultant got paid something like $50k, we know that gene keady was called very early in the process, we know that oscar is gene's guy, and we know that oscar was hired pretty quickly.

I mean, I feel like it is very reasonable to think that if anyone here is making poor assumptions based off of what we do know and the timing, it is ppl that think we offered a bunch of other ppl before we offered oscar.

I hope you're ready to have your mind blown by the inanity of my rationale!  Three words: Past As Precedent.  I tend to believe coaches -- with a significantly large enough track record --tend to continue to perform as they have in the past.  That's why I thought Kruger would win quickly at OU.  Of course, there comes a time when "the game passes a coach by" and winners start to fade, but Weber is too young IMO to fall into that category.

Especially with Chris Lowery on the bench, Weber has been successful.  Overall, his lifetime winning percentage is .676 (.637 in conference).  Assuming we play 32 games before the NIT/NCAA tournament (that number is not set) the math works out to a record of 22-10 (11-7).  That's my prediction.  And I'll take that record for my Khatz.

Weber won bigger than that with others' recruits, and he won bigger than that while at SIU.  And we know he has lost bigger than that, too.  But this seems to be his sweet spot.  I look at his last four seasons at Illinois to be our future, repeated over and over, until he leaves.  And I'm okay with that.  He already coached us to our first title since 1980, so that adds to my level of contentment...

i'm all for using data to drive our expectations.  but i believe players matter more than coaches.  like wvu last year.  huggins was still a great coach.  but he had fewer talented players than normal, his talent didn't fit together well, and he had little experience.  still a great coach, did not have a pretty good season.

in the case of oscar though, you can make the data support whatever side you want.

gosp used last four years and overall record to extrapolate out what he wanted/thinks.

i on the other hand, would use last five years of his conference record to support what i want/think because who cares about non-con and five is more data than four. that record is 41-49 and sucks donkey dicks.

that is what makes this so fun!

Forecasting generally involves using current trend.   How many years back current trend is might be hard to determine, although I would say 3 or 4 years seems right.

yes, the last thing we would want to do is use his overall record.  instead, it makes way more sense to use arbitrary statistics which fit the agenda of hating oscar. agree 100% go cats.

so weird. i swear to god he said he was just using his last four years at illinois. wow. go to bed daris.

either way, i'd say it's pretty dumb to just use numbers and not allow some kind of human interpretation of those numbers. oh well time will tell. go ksuuuuu.

ok so he said he expects oscar to repeat his last four illinois seasons over and over again at ksu cats and that he's ok w/ it. why didn't he say five? hell i don't know. maybe because it's because oscar went 5-13 in conference that year.

also, he just went .500 in conference in those last four and missed the tourney twice. oh well gosp doesn't care that much about bball i guess. that's his deal though not mine.

i believe players matter more than coaches.

i'm all for using data to drive our expectations unless said data doesn't fit my expectation, in which case i'm going to dismiss said data and find a different talking point which supports my expectation.

i've been talking that point since before asbury.

Nope.  Classic November Fools' joke.  ESPN got in on it, too.

Look I think you realized in your second post that I used his all-time winning percentage, not just any four years, to calculate my prediction for this season.  Then I looked at our schedule and thought it was doable.

Longer term, I didn't include the 07-08 season results in my career prediction because it was an outlier.  (The only overall losing season in Weber's 15-year career.)  But likewise, I'm not predicting Weber wins the Big 12 every year and maintains the new all-time winning percentage record at KSU, even though his most recent season -- and only season at his current school -- statistically indicates he might.  Again, last year was a bit of an outlier.  So I went with the four seasons right before that as fitting into his mean.

Maybe oscar will go 16-19 (5-13) every year from now on at KSU and suck taints and dongs and all those other things steve dave usually lists.  But if so, it would be a major downward deviation from his pattern.  (And I wouldn't be okay with that, which is why I didn't say I would be okay with that.)

Am I okay with this career at KSU?  Yeah, I guess I said I would be.  Maybe that makes me a crappy fan.   :dunno:

27-8 (14-4), conference title, NCAA
24-11 (11-7), NCAA
21–15 (10–8), NIT Quarterfinals
20–14 (9–9), NCAA Round of 32
17–15 (6–12)
24–10 (11–7), NCAA
21–15 (10–8), NIT Quarterfinals
20–14 (9–9), NCAA Round of 32
17–15 (6–12)

I think he might actually do better than that, and that's based on big breakout years he's had (28-8, 27-8, 26-7, 24-7, 37-2).  But that's more along the lines of wishful thinking.  Anyway, go cats.

hey dum-dums: this isn't a "let's argue about oscar for the 16576th time" thread. this is a "let's observe how a terrible sequence of events has now led to plummeting attendance" thread. so keep your pro and anti oscar agitprop out of here

but while we're on the topic, i heard yesterday on NPR that "the plural of anecdotes isn't data." so it's clear here that a bunch of you are using anecdotes (previous season records, wins and losses) to try to predict how oscar is going to do. while in fact, the real actual data is simply that oscar is terrible. ergo, ipso facto, ksu is going to lose more than real cat fans should want them to lose. looks like a lot of not real cat fans in this thread. sad.

Do I need to start posting pictures of the crowds waiting on the KU basketball team again (provided the LJWorld website hasn't taken them down out of shear embarassment)?

Hey guys, I still happen to think oscar is going to coach this year's squad to a pretty good season!  (Not a parody post.)

 :Purple Koolaid:

why?  not a parody post either.

Great bump!   :Woot:
