I got a new laptop. it's in the laptop dock thing and the monitor with the smaller blue plug is blurry as crap while the monitor with the larger white one is clear. they were both clear with my old tower they just took away that was using the same blue/white cables or whatever. I say to the IT guy, "why is this one blurry?" and he lies to my face and says "it's the monitor, I can't do anything about that" and I say "It was the same monitor that was clear with that other computer fuckface!" and he runs away. how do I fix this blurry one?
EDIT: added the exclamation mark so I get quicker help ITT
-
post (clear, in focus close up) of plugs or find pic of the same plug online
-
buy a new computer.
-
PM Dub-Dub.
-
the blue signal is analog and doesn't support as high a resolution as the white one... does stuff on the screen hooked up to the blue monitor look any larger or smaller than it used to?
-

VGA vs. Digital

here's the thing though. it was clear earlier with the same cable and monitor. stuff is the same size and right where I left it on the other computer.
-
I would tell the IT guy to just give me whatever monitor he is using and that he has to use the blurry one now.
-
What operating system? Probably just need to bump your screen resolution settings back up.
-
to be clear, you are running 2 monitors and they are not the exact same monitor?

your IT guy sounds like a dumbass then. probably pretty common for him to have to tweak the resolution/display settings on your new computer to get it "back to what i was used to on the old machine" (doubt the tech guys ever get it right the first time tho).
-
call him back and say "hey bad person, what's the resolution and refresh rate set at for the blue cable thingy? do you want to get fired?"
-

they are the same monitor but the cables are different. there is only one larger white plug and one smaller blue one on the dock.do you think I could use a spare HDMI slot on the dock and use that?
-

XP :sdeek:
the laptop even has a Windows 7 sticker on it but our stuff can't use it. they intentionally caveman them before I get them.
-
Just have your assistant order you two new monitors for your new laptop.
-
I can solve it but I need to know where to send my invoice first
-
Try right clicking on your desktop and go to "screen resolution." Then you can click on each monitor and make sure they are the max resolution. If that doesn't work, seriously just steal the IT guy's good monitor and leave your crappy one hooked up to his computer.

I already did that. only makes it crappier.
-
take a pic of your janky-ass screen in action

XP :sdeek:
You may have to restart for the full resolution to be recognized though...That's windows xp for ya.

yep, did that. still super crappy.

does your bad screen "flicker" more now than it used to?

no, I don't notice any flickers

edit: USB, not HDMI.
-
I'd call the IT dude and tell him to do his job and fix your computer
-
Have you tried removing your computer from the dock and then putting it back in again?
-
monitors are Dell P170S and just the standard HD Graphics 4000

Is the display mode set to "extend" or "clone" displays?
-
SD, unplug the cord thingys and blow on them like really hard but without spitting. The without spitting part is pretty important, but still need to blow hard on them. Then plug them back in.
If this doesn't work, I am going to say that your new laptop's graphics card is probs all f'ed up.
-
If you swap the cables around does the problem occur on the other monitor?
-
the blurry one was my internetting monitor :frown:
-
Have you tried removing your computer from the dock and then putting it back in again?
yes
blow in the cartridge really hard in a north to south motion or try putting some alcohol on a qtip and cleaning it out
-
It sounds like it's your docking station. It would have to be a model that supported true dual displays and had the appropriate outputs to do so. It sounds like one of your displays is sharing resolution with your crappier laptop screen. If you're lucky, closing your laptop will force the display to the monitors only.
-
CAN YOU READ THIS ON YOUR CRAPPY MONITOR?
-
I gave him the peace sign emoticon in a pm and he replied back with well eff you too..
sounds like a trip to the optometrist is in order if you ask me.. eye hernia probably

I think the bigger issue here is that his dumbass company runs XP and therefore sounds overall pretty shitty IMO.
-
If you want your laptop screen up too, you'll probably need a displaylink graphics adapter to run them all at once.
-

agreed. Ask the IT guy wtf is wrong with them.
-
another possible stupid easy fix is to reset the factory settings on your monitor. click the button on your monitor that leads you to a menu, and there should be a "factory reset" option. reset all the settings and sometimes that does stuff.
-
did not know anything still used VGA.
-

mine just switched to 7 a few months ago. it's pretty common for large companies to still run XP because their proprietary software won't run on 7.
-

yeah what on earth is this all about
-
can you even BBS on VGA/XP

probably fits this blog perfectly.
