...so we are a big 12 team and everything and sure, we lose 2 of our returners...but the best we can do is a guy who doesn't have his name on the back of his jersey who runs as fast as Finney? there isn't anyone else? seriously? losing out on the field position all of the second half rough ridin' killed us (along with the 25 turnovers).
...so Sams sucks at throwing the ball, but he still threw the ball well in certain/limited situations...but that this is why he shouldn't have started? I mean, you've known this for the entire spring, summer, and fall practice and you can't scheme around that crap?
...4.5minutes in the game and we come out and throw the ball down the field with Sams even though he had basically been shoving it up their ass the entire game? And then on the final drive, 3rd and 4 and you're like "oh, crap, get the guy in there that the defense has to defend both the pass and the run". After 2 weeks, this is the crap you've thought up?
...why was the game plan with Sams w/ no Hubert in the backfield? I realize they wanted to spread OSU out but no speed option against that defense? Especially since all it wanted to do was blitz Sams?
...the penalties...I mean, wtf? we had 2 weeks to prepare and our center doesn't know when to snap the ball? the goddamn return man tried a forward rough ridin' lateral. Like, has anyone ever seen that? I can't even remember that crap in high school.
To summarize, WTF?
-
I probably would have gone with Jake on that last drive, too, after watching Sams throw the deep ball. Jake was throwing bad passes on short routes, though. I think it was probably unfair to throw Waters into that situation, but his inability to handle that pressure just further demonstrates why he shouldn't be playing.

It's clear Snyder doesn't give a crap about this season and is just scheming for next year.

We've got the answers
-
The returner is Burns, same number as Hubert, he had to wear a different jersey. And he's a bad returner.
-
We still beat the spread, tho. :Ugh:
-
pretty clear that snyder is now just trying to get the highest draft pick he can
-
snyder looks like he had at least a minor stroke some time during the past 8 months
-
Once Lockett was hurt, Waters' day should have been over.
-

Jesus. No wonder Roberts is starting. Burns is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) slow. Isn't burton fast? Our entire special teams is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) without TT and TBL. We should not even attempt a return without them. Rose? DRob? Christ someone.

Yeah, it was bad. Especially when Burns thought he could return one from the end zone.

He is slower than Ell but quicker than Beasley.

I might disagree in comparo to Ell. But we can be friends still, ok?

yes. favorite dinosaur on 3
-
Sams might not be faster than Ell, but he moves better in space and does a better job of using his blockers.
-
sams is extremely quick. top end speed may go to ell, but at the line changes in speed def go to daniel.

you said it in a very odd way though.

Why do we not know how to go quickly on offense? I realize we don't run a hurry up offense, but shouldn't we at least know how to do it in case it's the end of the game and we don't have any timeouts because we used them when we ran the play clock down to zero several times earlier in the game?

Why would you keep the guy out there who is obviously there to get the ball to Thompson and Lockett when neither is on the field? Seems easy to me.
Also, Burns is actually faster than Lockett (40 times), but he ran tentative/scared. I couldn't believe he tried to return one from the endzone. That said, Hubert didn't look much better trying to return a kickoff.

We used one timeout on the 2PT conversion. Honestly, with Sams and without Lockett/Thompson going down the field quickly was going to be tough. That just makes it all the most frustrating that down 1 point with 4 minutes left we decide to throw a deep flag into cover 2. Sams made an awful, short throw on it, but still, give him a call to be successful and just start the drive running the ball.

Yeah. I don't see how the coaches can watch him in practice and think that route would be a good idea in that situation. If they wanted to come out throwing, they should have tried Gronk in the seam again. That way, if it's covered, at least Sams has some clear space to tuck and run. Sams still needs to learn how to play within himself and not throw that ball, though.

I agree, its not fair to Sams if you think he is a good player to let him off the hook. He has to know in that situation not to force a tough throw in between a corner and safety. Check, if its not wide open, tuck it and run.

it was a good comment, which the tv commentators took and ran with 30 seconds later

Question: We run a "check with me" slothfense. So I'm watching the game, and see like, 9 guys on the line for the pokes and say "man, we have no one blocking outside if they blitz." Then they rush from the outside and we're running some play where Daniel has like a 19 step drop and gets blindsided by an unblocked dude.
So my question is: What the heck is up with that?

It was a zone blocking scheme where the line all steps to the right. Hubert should have had his eyes to the left and picked that up. We had the numbers to stop that blitz. Hubert just went the wrong way.

I'm not sure but won't the QB usually point to the guy and make sure the RB sees him in that situation?

Well we should correct that if we're going to beat Baylor.

iirc he pointed out the overload on the strong side and got blasted from the weak side?

Sams probably should have. I would have to rewatch it to see if he actually had an opportunity to do that, given how we run a check with me and the defense wasn't really showing itself until after the whole team looked to the sidelines in most situations. Either way, the running back has to block the back side in that scheme. He went right, and there wasn't even anybody for him to block on that side.

I can't remember. I just know neither of them saw it and when watching from our angle it was easy to spot. They both should have seen it, but Hubert has no excuse since he's been starting for three years now. He seems lazy this year.

has anyone started a list yet? if so, add that to the list. if not, someone should start a list.
1. Get Hubert to zone block right or whatever
2. Don't commit 5 turnovers
3. No penalties
4. Put laxitives in the gatorade for Baylor.
5. Kidnap Art Briles
6. At least have a name on the jersey of players who are returning kicks so I know who to be mad at
7. Beer in the Stadium
8. Move the game to Sunday? Is Baylor allowed to play Sundays? They'd forfeit right?

Clear miscommunication between McDonald and Hubert. That was like a free gift for the defensive end; it would've been one thing had they brought pressure from that side (the blitz was completely from the other side of the formation), but they didn't and McDonald blocked no one.

Yeah. I want the Sams against Miami last year that got shot out of a cannon and ran for TD's and no one touches him.

Sometimes the other team has fast players that make good plays. Credit where due, etc.

It is just that he isn't that fast. I was actually disappointed in his running today. Probably unfair. OSU is athletic. But I am watching TCU and OU and Sams is average.

4.4 yards per carry is still pretty solid on 27 rushing attempts (including 1 sack). Plus OSU was only allowing 3 YPC going into the game. People didn't really think he'd stay at 7 ypc after he started playing more did they?

I noticed SAMs not quite as fast, too. I perdonslly think it had to do with the grind and the beating. He doesn't look like shot out of cannon partly because he is now playing against first stringers but mostly becsuse we fired that gun a lot today.

yeah, sams is the only reason I will watch this team. they are unlikeable and unwatchable otherwise.
-
sams' deficiencies are poor decisions (both running and passing). that can and should be overcome with experience and coaching. he has the physical tools and seems to have the drive and desire to be great. if he doesn't end up being at least as good as ell, that's totally on the staff.

I believe he is fast, he just didn't have a breakaway to display top end speed. Very close a couple times to breaking one, but OSU tackled well yesterday.
