Title: 9/28 College Football Contests (and on this day God said let the cats rest)
Post by: Mr Bread on September 28, 2013, 02:23:00 PM
TCU looks to be handling their business.  Pokes looking less than advertised.  Illinois wins.  Purdue is really rough ridin' awful.  Let's talk football in this thread.

Solid.  Illinois is 3-1.  They knocked the dicks off a terrible MAC team today.  They're most likely going to lose their next four straight tho.  Plus Illini Street Jam tonight!  Dlew's probably already there saving his seat.  First come, first served I hear.

Heck yes!  First big 10 game versus those guys.  Never been in a position to root against them.  Probably gonna feel pretty good.  The Breads' defense is really, really bad tho.  Much better on offense this year, but man that defense.  It's gonna be too bad if they kick our dicks off.  I'm gonna be pretty upset if they embarrass me in front of you guys.

All the WVU/OSU game tells us is that OSU is a sure loss ( as if it wasn't already) and now the WVU game is even more in doubt.

I think the conference has to review player ejections and if they think he threw a punch they could.  Maybe it is targeting that they automatically suspend you for a game? So if you get it in the secind half u have to sit out the first half of the next game?

Quote from: New Ruling on targeting
A player ejected from the game and, should it occur in the second half, be disqualified for the first half of the next game.

There is no appeal, beyond immediate replay review.

You're right about the targeting part, not sure about other ejections

Bread, Illinois looks pretty good this year. Only loss to an extremely good Washington team. You haven't played anybody yet though outside of that game, so who knows what's in store. I would not be afraid of Wisconsin or Nebraska.

The mocat system ranks the big 10:

16. Ohio State
22. Michigan
24. Penn State
33. Northwestern
38. Iowa
41. Wisconsin
48. Illinois
54. Nebraska
55. Minnesota
64. Indiana
69. Michigan State
111. Purdue

I think you have Penn State too high.  They have a true freshman qb and their recruiting has been down thanks to the scandal and scholly restrictions/transfers.

Illinois' defense is very bad.  It is both inexperienced and woefully untalented.  Like maybe it would qualify as a mediocre defense in the MAC on a good day.  It's really going to be a problem against any teams with even decent offenses.  We also struggled to score against the only good team we faced, so our offense while clearly improved from last season could still be somewhat of a mirage.  I don't think they beat Nebraska, in fact I don't think it will even be close (10+).  I don't trust them.

the mocat ranking system does not take into account the age of the QB or recruiting rankings, or any data from 2012, or pre-season rankings, etc.
it's just based on what's taken place on the field in 2013.
penn state has a good defense, has beaten a decent Syracuse team, dominated two garbage MAC teams, and lost by 3 to a good/very good UCF team. and they're probably going to beat Indiana next week. you could be right though, and they will probably slide down the rankings as they play more good teams

Michigan State has done absolutely nothing to warrant a higher ranking. They have beaten an FCS team and 2 of the worst FBS teams in unimpressive fashion, and lost to losery losers Notre Dame in a 17-13 stinker.

Their defense is very good.  Dantonio will get it figured out enough on offense to be better than Minnesota and Indiana.

Wisconsin is better than Penn State.

Maybe later but not right now. Wisconsin has played 2 real teams this year and lost to both. At least PSU beat Syracuse.

This week, EMAI

I just heard it's on ESPNU.  Stupid on ESPN's part.  Iowa/Michigan State (ESPN2) is going to be a low-scoring snoozefest that nobody gives a eff about.  Solid potential that the breads versus the Pelinis will be a shootout that Americans will want to watch.

Syracuse is bad.  Wisconsin lost to two ranked teams close on the road.  Plus they really got mumped by the refs at ASU.

Bread, as an insider, how do you feel about the Big 10 football conference as a whole and watching conference games?

Scheelhause (sp???) seems to have his crap together this year slinging the pigskin around.  My friends and I always like to shout STEVE HALL (ala Arrested Development) whenever he makes a catch.

Good times had by all!

It's @STEVEHULL.

Scheelhaase didn't have his crap together against Washington (9/25, 156, 1/1), which is a closer approximation to what he will be facing on a weekly basis in conference other than Indiana and Purdue.  Quick reads under pressure are not Nate's strong suit.  Nor is accuracy really.  When he doesn't have all day to throw the ball my guess is we'll see the Nate of the last few seasons.  Not as bad, but significantly worse than he's been.  The good news is they haven't been running him, which means they're saving it up for when the going inevitably gets tough.  One of these games they're going to run the crap out of him and it's really going to ruin the other team's day.
