This will help us burn it down. Get completely clown suited in front of the nation to show how incompetent oscar is. This is a good thing in the end. At least I keep telling myself that to not go insane.
-
instead of having game chats can we just do them in turntable and listen to the cure?
-
wow. with the exception of baylor twice, it's all big8 schools. interesting.
-

yeah, figured TX would get one just for laughs.
-
No WVU, TCU, TTU, or UT. Pretty amazing how far UT has fallen.
-
We will go 1-1 on Big Monday
-
We will go 1-1 on Big Monday
Bold prediction. I appreciate the optimism, I just don't see it.
-
We will go 1-1 on Big Monday
against the spread? I can see Sprads hitting a couple of 3s in Stillwater after Smart comes out with a couple minutes left to backdoor the 9.5
-
what if tho
-
We put a fricking remote control racecar on Mars, anything is possible guys
-
I guarantee oscar was praying that he didn't have to play KU on Big Monday :goodbyecruelworld:

I've been looking so long, at these pictures of oscar
That I almost believe that they're real
:bawl:

The project wasn't headed by oscar and didn't have it's best engineer leave for a different Space Organization.

Korn?

Gip and Souhtwell are enough to at least be competitive most nights... I'm not going to write off K-State until I see what the freshmen bring to the table. You guys won a share of the league last year, for eff's sake.

Yep K-State brings back some good pieces. Jevon and Foster are both really good. Finishing in the top of half of big 12 is possible. The bottom of the league is really bad, but on the other hand OSU, KU and Baylor are far better than anyone else in the league. Should be a battle for 4th or 5th.

I'd prefer not being on Big Monday after the screwjob last year.

Monday is Red Box night at my house. Someone text me score updates at halftime and when the games are over.

If we had Angel, we would be a lock for the tourney this year. As is, we should be on the bubble, probably out, but no match for teams like OSU and KU.
-
I am thinking
1. OSU
2. KU
3. 4. 5. OU, BU, ISU
6. WVU
7. Texas
8. KSU
9. TCU
10. Tech
Do we have to go over our starting lineup again?
-
Texas will not be above us and we'll be an inch ahead of WVU.

All EMAW need to get a Powerball ticket with the understanding that first order of biz if you win is finding out what the right number is to get oscar out and Pearl in. Second order of biz is to ask Pearl what the best way to do some recruiting influencing on the DL is.

mocat, if I let everyone know when I didn't understand a post made by the elites of gE, I'd look like a real dumbass. Trying to follow Trim's tweets is even more challenging.

Here is the rest of the schedule
http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10410&ATCLID=208973161
I see us going 7-4 or 6-5 in the conference before March begins. Really depends upon whether we can win against WVU and OU both at home and on the road. We'll obviously get piss pounded by OSU and KU, and no way oscar wins at Iowa State.
-
I'll be honest, I don't know why Trim just put that here
there were rumblings currie had interest

Thank goodness I didn't buy a ticket package with weekend games included.
You know who else plays 11am Sat games? My 6 and 8 yr olds in the YMCA league. CNS Coach can only stretch so far.

yeah, better than dreading it all day. pull the bandage fast. agreed go cats, tho.

I love early starts. You get the whole afternoon to forget about the slaughter you witnessed in the morning.

Early starts mean I sleep through the game and read the aftermath on gE.

woof

Man how things have changed since I started on K-State interwebs in 2009.
-
an early loss ruins my whole day. early is great for wins, sucks for losses.

So is Maryland still your new team?
Their Big Ten'ness sure dampens the allure of Turgeon and Hill.
-
So is Maryland still your new team?
i still like them (turg), but i may have overestimated how easily i could switch my attention to non big 12 teams.
-
So honest question, who is your new point guard? I know Angel left for a school closer to home.
-

Sprads will be playing out of position for his 4th consecutive year. His actual position is Division 2 SG.

We split with Iowa State and OU, by losing on the road at each place. Meanwhile, Iowa State loses at least 4 against OSU, KU, and BU....and so does OU.
Can we win 2 games against OSU, KU, and BU? I don't think so.
We need to be perfect against Tech, TCU, and UT just to stay in the fight for 4th, IMO.

Ya, but you guys are much, much more likely to steal an extra one from OSU/KU/BU.
-
9-9 seems about right; At best we get 1 out of the 6 vs KU, OSU and BU and I anticipate getting swept by somebody from the bottom half of the league, either TCU or OU. We will lose the majority of our close games this year.
My most optimistic side thinks there is a chance we get to the final 3 games (home for ISU, @OSU, home for Baylor) with a shot at 10 or 11 wins - TT, WVU and UT will be really bad

Yea, Oklahoma State and/or Kansas will lose in Hilton. Hopefully Kansas, if Beems wasn't my homeboy, I'd pillage Lawrence confederate-style after the game(s) last year.

The "good news" for oscar is that the Big 12 is a terrible basketball league. Seems much more likely that oscar "coaches up" his merry band of midgets and untransferables to a 4th-5th place league finish than that they tank and wind up 9th or 10th, IMO.

That's only good news if 4th or 5th is good enough to get us into the NCAA Tournament, though.

1. OSU
2. KU
3. 4. 5. OU, BU, ISU
6. WVU
7. Texas
8. KSU
9. TCU
10. Tech
Do we have to go over our starting lineup again?
you have osu above ku. that must be a typo right?

I have no doubt that the oscar apologists (from Currie on down) are prepared to grant oscar a generous dispensation from tourney expectations if he finishes in or near* the top half of the conference over the next 3 years regardless of whether he makes the tourney, on account of the "tough luck" he encountered by not having good players want to play for him. After all, there's a shiny trophy that, much like a ball of yarn to a cat, should hold their unsophisticated interest for at least that length of time, regardless of current on-court results.
*7th place or higher.

They'll not only accept it, but many will come to oscar's aid. The more pathetic he becomes, the more some are drawn to him. It's quite the surival skill. "We've gotta protect that damn Down's baby! Get him some rough ridin' nuggets stat!!" #nuggetconundrum

The Basketball recruiting intelligentsia on GoPowercat are telling me that this Basketball Recruiting class is Freakishly Athletic and I don't even know how to respond to this lunacy already. We also don't need to worry about rebounds because we are getting shooters and Frank Martin didn't get shooters.
Mr. Bread how did you survive this? I am scared...... :ohno:

The "good news" for oscar is that the Big 12 is a top 1/3 heavy basketball league. Seems much more likely that oscar "coaches up" his merry band of midgets and untransferables to a 4th-5th place league finish than that they tank and wind up 9th or 10th, IMO.
We will be fine as long as we have Jevon. ;) There is less of a drop between Angel and Jevon then most people think. Jevon will finish his career the better player, atleast this is what I hear. Also Gip has added an ok face-up game this off season.

Self, Ford, Hoiberg and Kruger aren't exactly agreeing with you.

"Terrible" may be overstating it. But a conference that puts 2 into the round of 32, 1 in the Sweet 16, none beyond that, and has a 4 and 5 seed get knocked off in the first round (one (co-champ) by the play-in winner), is not doing too great.

Just so no one is mislead, a national title implies a final four appearance; a final four appearance implies an elite eight, etc - although I did not count those explicitly. I took the furthest advancement from each season, so while Beilein does not have a Final Four listed, he obviously made an appearance last year. I inferred that this was the methodology used by AVL, as well.

When laid out as I did, you can see that the bottom of the conference really lacks any coaching accomplishments to speak of. I suspect the ACC would blow both of us out of the water. K and Ol' Roy alone probably would.
-
I like that we chose to compare the Big 10 and the Big 12 because that is the conference that oscar spent his formative big time coaching years at.
In my above rankings I focused on Elite Eights because I feel like it gets you past the "lucky" stage. After that you are losing to a fantastic team.
There is mega coaching star power in our conference and many of the coaches are relatively new to their teams. Kruger, Tubby Smith, Hoiberg, Weber, Trent Johnson. The competition will likely get much better especially from Kruger this year. I doubt Huggins stays down for long either.

This system is stupid, rewards longer tenured head coaches and doesn't differentiate from different schools. Crean is way to low, McCaffery is way to high.
-
I would like to see the year of each coach's most recent FF appearance - I may do it it tomorrow if no one does it off the top of their head first

Big 10 sucks at basketball and always will.

Fact. Individual schools can excel, i.e., many of Coach Knight's Indiana squads, etc. As a conference? Not so much.

Big 10 was fantastic at basketball last year. Clear #2 behind the Big East for best bball conference in the country.

Mixed-Nutz is a dumbass as per usual. Crean is not way too low. Those losery hick IU fans are already turning on him after the loss to SU and not having any 2014 'cruits inked (has had two state of Indiana studs decommit tho). A good coach should be able to roll at IU; he hasn't done anything special there.

+ his haircut

Crean did an amazing job coaching that no talent group as far as he did. Can you imagine any other coach taking a team that far with the absolute crap core of players he had in Zeller, Olidipo, and Sheehe(sp)?

As much as I hate the Big Ten, its pretty ignorant to say the Big Ten sucks at basketball overall.
Statements like: "The Big Ten sucks at making basketball fun and entertaining," would be more accurate.

I think you're expecting too much out of this exercise. We are simply taking a snapshot of each coach's resume. Just like in life, the longer tenured professionals tend to have more gold stars on their resume. The point of this exercise wasn't really to argue over who the best coaches were, but rather to get a sense of the relative strength of the coaches in each conference. The fact that we chose to order them in a rough approximation according to the listed accomplishments is more of an afterthought, and I certainly am not married to the exact order that I laid out. However, I do disagree that Crean is way too low.

oscar and Tubby contributed to that crap show as did Lon before them. oscar in particular. A 38-33 home loss to Penn State comes to mind. Is the Big 12 safe? :ohno: Stay tuned Havs. The Fighting Hois can only do so much.
-
38-33 should have resulted in both coaches being banned from coaching Division 1 NCAA basketball. the NCAA could implement the ban and justify it as protecting their brand and the entertainment value of the sport.
Jesus.
Bo Ryan wants to know what the eff happened.

We got a lot of run on Sportscenter for that; "highlights" and all. Set the game back 100 years hur hur hur type stuff.

Yeah, he definitely needs to be ponying up nowadays. Who would sign on to play for that once they get a good look at it? Somebody that got paid a lot that's who.

Won the big 10 last year, in the greatest year of modern day BIG 10 B-ball. Built up a program that was a dumpster fire.

Really interested to see what he does this year without Zeller and Olidipo(SP?)
-
I don't really know a ton about Crean, other than the fact that he looks like this guy all growed up:
(https://goemaw.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages2.wikia.nocookie.net%2F__cb20091215034326%2Fdisney%2Fimages%2Fthumb%2F7%2F7d%2FMaster.jpg%2F500px-Master.jpg&hash=cbf1ecd609d89eb9ac3d6fc1ff7bc0a06c83aa4d)
What I do know is that his Marquette team made the Final Four (with D. Wade), and other than that the furthest he's made it in the tourney is back-to-back Sweet Sixteens these past two years.

Big 12 hoops is weird. There's just a huge gap between Self/KU and everyone else. Barnes would have easily been #2 a few years ago, and now he's dogshit. Smith is trending downward, and Hoiberg is trending upward, but at this point, Smith is the more accomplished coach. Same thing goes for Huggins and Ford.
-
if kstate had the choice of hiring smith or hoi, i'd hire hoi 10/10 times. that's the way i look at it. smith is basically weber at this point in time.

Won the big 10 last year, in the greatest year of modern day BIG 10 B-ball. Built up a program that was a dumpster fire.
Any coach that is worth a crap could "build up" IU. That program is a rough ridin' juggernaut. They let Knight quit recruiting for a decade plus before they canned him and then they hired a rough ridin' nobody in Davis and a cheater that was bad at cheating in Sampson. They have shitty leadership. If they had hired a top coach like a Thad Matta or a Sean Miller, let alone a Self or Calipari or Roy, instead of Crean then they would have been back in the tournament by year two, not a national rough ridin' embarrassment for three straight years. Crean on his best rough ridin' day is pedestrian.
-
I think IU was dead enough for the current generation of players to ignore it fairly easily. Crean tore the program down and rebuilt it, bringing in some stud talent. He will need deeper runs in the tournament before long, but I think he has done well so far.

They never lost fan support. They pack that shithole to the rafters every night out. They have tremendous local talent and amazing tradition with great resources/facilities.
Tore the program down? What the eff does that even mean? Are you suggesting he had to be terrible for three years? If Thad Matta can walk into Ohio State on rough ridin' probation and turn it into a national power in less than three seasons then Crean sure as crap should have been able to do it at IU. Matta won the rough ridin' conference year two and made the NC year three. Crean was 10-21 and 12-20 in years 2 and 3. There was no excuse for being that rough ridin' bad.
This season will be his high water mark and he choked his dick off in the tournament. Only 13 teams in NCAA history have had two top five picks on the court together and his team achieved the least amongst that group. Two rough ridin' sweet sixteens. Not to mention Zeller first and foremost committed to IU. He wanted to bring it back. He's an Indiana hick born and bred. Oladipo was as DITRy as it gets. Point being that caliber of player isn't likely to pop up again for Tan Tom. He won't be selling anymore local McD's AA on redeeming the program, that has happened, and you don't find three star 'Dipos more than once or twice a career. Word is the instate talent (and those that control access to it) is starting to sour on him. He'll continue to recruit well, but he needs a sizable talent advantage to win big.
I hope they keep him for ten more years, because IU will never be what it should be with him there. They should easily be right there with Kansas, Kentucky, Duke and UNC. Luckily their administration has proven over and over again to be that rough ridin' stupid.
-
It really comes down to the fact that he's just such a corny, derpy fuckface. Decidedly not a stud. It's the same way I felt about oscar when all the Illinois rough ridin' idiots were constantly apologizing for him. I can't help but condemn the man.
-
By tore the program down, I meant he ran off nearly every upperclassmen and committed to a few crap seasons while young players got a lot of experience. Finding another Oladipo may never happen, but one of the reasons he became so good is because he had so much playing time to figure it out. If he kept the previous players, I don't think he would've been as successful this last season. I agree that he needs to go deeper though.
Not saying he is a great coach, but I think he is a pretty good coach. Tournament success is missing and consistent tournament success is the sign of a great coach.

How in the eff can you consider Tubby ahead of Barnes????? Tubby couldn't sustain at the greatest basketball program in the history of America. Barnes has had a let down at a school that doesn't even give a crap about basketball, despite having taken them to the final four.
Christ. Tubby has proven that he cannot get it done at two different schools in a row....both with vast resources.

if kstate had the choice of hiring smith or hoi, i'd hire hoi 10/10 times. that's the way i look at it. smith is basically weber at this point in time.

Probably fits better in the twitter thread, but I can't post there or I'll lose my place wherever I left off in January.

Saw that earlier. Other coaches should be encouraged by this list if Frank is #5,or whatevs. I know I would be. It would be like getting hired at a new job and during the tour of the office they show you their best employee and he is some guy that has his shoes on the wrong feet and greets you right after just hanging up from him mom telling him to be sure to pick up milk on the way home tonight.

Even Havs misses Frank.

Oh man. I didn't even click the link until just now. Right before I saw this thread, I say Underwood and Frank giving each other crap on twitter and saw that Frank was #5 on the list they linked to each other on twitter. I didn't look close enough to see it was a conference by conference list and just assumed it was a national list.
The good news is that we now know what metric Currie used. They are both #5 in their conferences in twitter, Currie must of recognized this talent.
