I think Rome is very talented. He is just not Bradley Nowell.

And I think Slightly Stoopid is the best reggae/ska/hiphop band out there right now. They have some great music.

Of course Rome is not Bradley. He never claimed to be. He is very talented and I'm glad he took over so the band can tour and stuff. Saw them with 311 a couple years ago in KC.

Tons of cities/towns around the U.S. have riverfests.  Probably around the world.  There are probably a handful or so that are pretty great.  Where does that leave us?  Tough to say.

I feel like it should be clear that not all people who listen to 311 move on to good music.

Although I did enjoy them very much when I was 15. I saw them at the Kansas Coliseum with Sugar Ray, and maybe Incubus? Was that Incubus, people?

I saw them at the Topeka Expocentre with the Urge when I was 15.

I enjoy listening to them for the nostalgia from time to time.  It makes me remember what it was like growing up and listening to 105.9 when it was all alt-rock back in the 90's.

I don't think this statement fits this thread.

311 and Sublime may have been represented by corporations but they are far from being from some sort of machine.

Transistor and Sublime are top notch albums that show variety in style from one song to the next.

Both bands started from scratch and they both are products of their own creativity.

Sublime was good back in the day.

Rome is a hack.

311 put on some pretty good shows years ago.

Never seen Slightly Stoopid, and that's a terrible band name.

Here's the part where I mention I'm in a ska/punk band.  We may be getting a trumpet player this next weekend.  I'll keep you guys posted if we make it big.

I may know my way around a trumpet. just a fwiw if you ever want to jam sometime. also I no longer own a trumpet so you'll have to provide one for me. also I haven't played one in about a decade so it'll take me a couple minutes to remember which buttons do which notes.

Post by: Super PurpleCat on June 24, 2013, 10:12:29 AM
We've gone through a trombone player and trumpet player since we started putting this together in December.  Everyone who plays hasn't touched their instrument since they were in school, so it's always the 10 year since I played thing.

We'll see how the new guy works out this weekend.

I may Soundcloud our stuff for gE listening purposes once we figure out how to record crap in our shed.

funny punk/ska band saxophone story.  when i was 15 i saw less than jake at liberty hall in lawrence, and they were having some sound issues and the saxophone player (a girl) decided to take that time to go strip down backstage and then streak across the stage TOTALLY NAKED!!!

pretty great sax story IMO.

We've got 5 originals so far and just this past week we've really raised them to acceptable status (we think).  So far up to this point all we have are demos recorded on our phones in the shed.  I'll see if I can get some good (we think) shed recordings on Garageband for Soundcloud.  It's not gonna sound anything studio quality as we practice in a 10x15 climate control shed so it's really freaking loud in there.

I was in the K-State Marching Band with the alto sax player from Ruskabank.  They came to my roomate's friend's house on 11th a few houses down from the Arby's.  Cops busted it up about an hour after they left.  I didn't see anyone naked there.
